are there any words you say funny? i pronounce milk "melk." no one i know says it that way, not even my family, so i have no clue where i got that from, but i just can't bring myself to say "milk."

Everyone says that I pronounce "house" funny but I don't think so...and also "museum"......I guess I would have to maybe say it to see what everyone thinks. Wonder if I could post a sound file or something??

I think I say both correctly......but not according to all my friends:rolleyes:

:p

But I really do, Shep!:p When I was in New York, everyone said they loved my southern accent. It is that Kentucky drawl.:teeth:

According to my family (SC), I say water funny. I say "what-er". They all say "whudder". That's just one of many words I say that they find odd.
My older DS thinks I say Lenny funny (as in Lenny Kravitz). I say "Linny". He says "Lanny". I think he gets that from my DH, who is from NY. :D

I say words differently from my friend. I used to live in Indiana and apparently i picked up a slight accent.
They all find it so cute yet funny at the same time. When i have to recite something for school or I get nervous, they tell me they can really hear it.

Hey, what kind of accent does Indiana have????

I don't have an accent, everyone else does. :teeth:

I never thought I pronounced words differently, but apparently I do. Everyone always asks "are you from Boston" So I guess I must put a few R in my words, especially when there aren't any.

first of all I live in NJ and am originally from NY. So I'm all screwed up! But I say "soder" not soda.

Well, I moved from my native Texas to Illinois a few years ago. Needless to say, I haven't heard the end of it yet. The funny part of it is, I'm constantly having to give definitions too. Even my vocabulary is different.

Most people think it's weird how I say either and neither. I don't say them the southern way (pronouncing the e's). My SO says hen instead of hades.;)

Hey, I say "melk", too! My parents have been bugging me about it forever. Also, I thought I was saying "frontier" right (frun - TEER), but a bunch of people have told me it should be pronounced "FRAWN - teer". I find that hard to believe, but it's not a word you hear pronounced very often, so it's hard to tell.

I was born in Georgia and lived here until I was 7 then we moved to Kentucky. So for a while they would tell me I had a "southern drawl". Then when I was 19 I moved back to Georgia and have lived here ever since. But every once in a while I'll catch myself saying warsh instead of wash. That's from Kentucky. Everything else is back to southern drawl so now I say a lot of funny things.

DH says "melk", and also "pellow" instead of pillow. It drives me nuts - no one else in his family says it that way.

I grew up in da Bronx...I don't tawk funny!

my sister does that too. she also says Bagel like BAG-EL, instead of BAY-GLE.

I talk Funny...here's a link to a cute article that was published in my paper about our "disappearing" accent...

Speak N'Hampsha

No...I live in TN. I don't talk funny.
I used to say wooder for water when I lived in Jersey. I have always had to concentrate when saying "salt" it sounded more like "sot". But that's it, otherwise I'm perfect.
DH says "paints" sometimes for pants and it just KILLS me.
