I went to my SIL's bridal shower on Friday night and survived! Woo hoo!
One thing that surprised me is that most of my DH's family is now shunning me. I guess that only one side of the story is needed for them to make their decision about me and 13+ years of knowing me doesn't count for anything. No big loss as far as I'm concerned.
I sat with my good SIL's (through marriage, so she's equally hated by MIL) mother and with my DS's teacher who is a friend of the bride.
Now, one thing I want to note is that my MIL touts herself to be "Jane Catholic" and she always asks if we went to church on Sunday. Well, she decided to serve chicken on a Friday night, during Lent. She also didn't listen to my DH and served my DD the adult meal. I knew that if she didn't get alfredo or mac & cheese, she wouldn't eat. Guess who's meals went to waste? Both of ours.
At least our names were on the gift that we bought and it was displayed. They neglected to put my name on the gift I bought for my other SIL when she got married.
So, now I can live with the knowledge that I only ever have to go to two more family weddings and one other bridal shower. I can conveniently decline all other family obligations after all of my DH's siblings are married. YAY!
P.S. I was able to handle everything without the benefit of Xanax. That, in and of itself, is commendable, I think.
