I survived the trip with an ECV!

We just returned from our trip and I used an ECV for the first time. I was really really nervous, not just of driving the thing, but of nasty looks and comments from people. I don't "look" sick and can walk for short periods of time. Surprisingly, there were no issues really. We didn't have any long waits for buses. I parked the ECV with the stroller when we got to the "land" we were going to be in for a while and then I'd walk around to the different rides. Everyone was really nice and considerate on the buses.

I had a lot of issues in the parks of people walking in front of me either b/c they weren't looking or they did look and decided to walk in front of me anyway. There were a lot who were walking beside me and then just jetted to their left right in front of me b/c they weren't paying attention. I got really frustrated, but thankfully never hit anyone.

Thanks to everyone for your encouragement!

congrats on a successful trip.

ya gotta remember that a lot of park goers end up with sensory overload by trying to look at all the stuff and forget that others are around them! Heck, DW and I had several people almost walk into us because they were looking one way and walking another!

I am glad you did ok with it, and you just have to be observant all the time like driving when in crowds at WDW. Some people think the scooters can stop on a dime, and they just can't, not made that way. Add in the weight of the scooter and rider, it is going to hurt if you get hit but people think it is fine to just jump in front of you to go faster.

I agree some are people on sensory overload and forget to watch for scooters but some are just pushy people who feel they need to go first as you are not walking. It happens to me everywhere not just at WDW on my scooter so I am kinda used to it.

Glad you did good I found the more I used scooters I was able to read people better now for the most part I see people before it's a problem. The first few times I used a scooter I ran over lots of feet and had one woman go right over the tiller into my lap

Isn't it funny how you do learn to read what people are going to do before they do it? I found that I was able to do it almost instantly and avoid any incidents. It is just stressful having to keep an eye on everyone at every minute.

I just got through explaining this to a scooter newbie that will be with us on our December trip. I hear you about stepping out. The real fun one is when a parent has a child by the hand and they both try to pass; this is a tough one.

You do after a while learn to be more sensitive about it all and you do read people better, etc. You learn how to get through the line queues better, too. It's all a matter of practicing with it.

I went in early April and used a scooter for the first time (Yeppers, during spring break:scared1:). I didn't have any accidents thank God, and I got to do so much more due to not having to walk as much, but I was nervous the whole time as SO many people played "lets see how close I can get to the scooter as I dart in front of it!"

Scary stuff!! A few people had a lot of attitude, especially at bus stops, including one who yelled, "If you can't walk you should have stayed home". Other than that, people were great!!

Are you kidding me????????????? I've been to WDW twice, both times using a scooter, and have never had a situation like that--I'm not sure how I would react. What did you say or do?
