I Survived! a Dopey Marathon 2016 Report

Enjoyed your trip report! Sorry you didn't feel well but it was inspiring to see how you pushed on!
Thank you! Hope it inspires people to Run a Disney event or helps people see what goes on. They are so much fun even when sick!

Great trip report and really great job on completing the marathon under duress!
Thank you, I think anyone would do the same if they really put their mind to it. Heck at Disney I think could run with anything, it really is magical!

Congratulations on a great accomplishment! It really stinks when you're as prepared as you can be for a race, and then something goes wrong - like getting food poisoning! Way to keep a positive attitude and get it done.
Thank you! I just keep saying I really got my money's worth being out there longer. And it was humbling seeing the race from farther back, everyone's out there doing the same thing and it's really cool to see! Disney does such a great job too!

Woohoo! Great job despite everything! You definitely earned those medals. I'm contemplating goofy for 2017 maybe but probably not dopey but definitely dopey in 2018. I at least want to do the half next year for the 20th anniversary and I really want to run the full. Congrats again!
I know that half medal for the anniversary is making me lean toward Goofy instead of 'just' the marathon, not sure I can swing Dopey again $$$ wise as I want to do Wine & Dine this year as well. Whatever you choose you will have a blast, just train as best you can and watch what you eat before, hahahaha! Seriously, it was such a fluke. I was just happy I wasn't dizzy at all as that would have been the worst scenario.

I forgot to add, I had an Eggplant stem I crocheted to wear on my head, but it was hard enough just getting a pony tail done, so the stem got left behind sadly. My brother was Mayonnaise from Kitchen Kabaret and my older brother attempted a Mr. Broccoli shirt but didn't make it big enough to really see unless close.

Coke will now be a prerace staple and saltine crackers will always come along too!

And I've gotten a few 2 mile runs in since getting back despite the freezing temps and my main glute injury is gone and I had developed a secondary injury lower and it is getting better. I think it came on from altering my gait unknowingly with the main injury, so I feel like I'm having to relearn how to run properly again. But that's promising! My back is all recovered too from the marathon, my mom thinks it could have gotten so sore from all the throwing up too. A few rides on Space Mountain usually fixes things too I say!

Very cute costume! I loved Kitchen Kabernet as a kid. You are such a trouper to push through the marathon after your horrible food illness. But I'm glad to hear that the medics were definitely on alert at the finish line. It was good that they made you stop, rest, and hydrate.

Glad to hear that your glute injury is feeling better, too. I still haven't run post-Dopey, but it was more because I was feeling burned out after all the training, I definitely prefer the less time-intensive half marathon training. I'm hoping to get back to training this week, it's finally COLD in south Florida! Cold is a relative thing, but it got down in the 30s last night and all my outdoor plants are very unhappy. But I much prefer running in cooler temps.

Coke saved me after a hot half marathon in November, I had a huge blood sugar crash despite fueling like I always do and Coke was handing out free cans after the race, I grabbed one and immediately felt better.

Great race weekend recap, I really enjoy reading them anyway, but when you've also participated in the same weekend, it's fun to follow along with others' experiences.

Congrats- you made it! Very impressed by your determination despite the odds. Thanks for writing such an enjoyable race recap! Will you ever consider Dopey round two or perhaps do the marathon again as redemption for your food poisoned experience?

Thanks! Yes, I would be Dopey again if I can swing the money. I definitely want to be back in 2017 for at least the marathon for redemption from this one and the 2015 flu one. My training got messed up with my injury so hopefully this year I can get my running form back on track and shack what's lingering from changing my gait being injured. I love all the training unlike some, but then I've been long distance running for so long I don't know anything else. I really want to do Wine & Dine too this year, the night aspect of that is what scares me. I did Everest but that was just the a 5k and scavenger hunt.

Thanks for reading. Did you run any races this year?

I wish Kitchen Kabaret would come back. Yes, the medics were great, I felt silly, but appreciated them too. My finish video on marathonfoto is pretty pathetic and the pictures the whole marathon, but I can laugh at them now at least.

We should hit 30 today for a high today, woohoo! But we're really dry and I know when visiting FL it seems even when it cools to like 50 it feels colder cause of the humidity I think. Coke is amazing, I usually drink diet but actually kept drinking regular for the rest of the trip.

Thanks for reading fellow Dopey!

Thank you for taking the time to put together this trip report - I really enjoyed reading it. Awesome job, and amazing perseverance. :thumbsup2

Congrats on completing the challenge! And major props for completing the marathon even though you felt bad!

Loved reading this! Glad you made it through to the end...you definite earned it! Congrats. :)

I finally got a chance to read through and I really enjoyed reading about your weekend, minus the part about you being sick :(.

Your costumes are really amazing - so creative and original!!

I was in corral D for the 10K, and a lot of the characters you saw had been taken inside by the time I got there. Stupid rain. We did see Anna and Elsa on the overpass, though, and once we got to Epcot all of the same characters were there.

Congrats on finishing! I can't imagine making it through a marathon like that, and I'm so impressed that you were able to finish! Great job!

So, I was going back through my pictures and had read how the Genie in his vacation outfit was out at the Boardwalk area and kept thinking how did I miss him again. As, I never saw him during the half at EPCOT either. Well, I guess he was out when I went by, it was like a Where's Waldo to spot him, but he is there. Thought this was funny. I just kept snapping pictures but lucked out that he was in this one I suppose :) Oh and there was a guy running in a full Goofy costume, he must have been hot as we have that for Halloween, no way I could run it, he must have really been 'Goofy' keeping it on, hahaha!

Thanks for reading! Hope it helps others relive their races too or get encouraged to run one or two or three, heehee!

Thanks for reading! I just figure others have worse things and many people can't run, so at least I could and nothing was life changing.

Thanks! It was a relief to finish for sure, I just crashed on the bed back at Sports and didn't move for awhile, kind of funny as that's so not me normally.

Thanks! I went obscure on the outfits so it was fun if anyone at the time got them. I just have to keep it simple, I don't see how people run in the more elaborate ensembles.

That sucks on the characters going in, Darkwing was so cool too. It's funny the rats could stay out. Fur must handle it better than like the foam or whatever the others are made of. Good job on your races too!

Here's some video I took during all 4 races of the Dopey Challenge.

Not as much during the full being sick, but still some. I tried to cut out most of my commentary but there's still some so don't laugh too hard.

Great job!

Congratulations on your completion of Dopey! Wow, what an awesome job of perseverance through that Marathon with your illness. I really enjoyed your report.

Great video - thanks for sharing!

And I enjoyed hearing some of your commentary. Especially when you said you were going to stop and watch cartoons during the half marathon

Thank you. It's fun to share, well not the sick part. Looking back I wish I had bought a coke in Animal Kingdom, I didn't even think of doing that during the race but it would have gone down better than the water/powerade I tried.

Great video - thanks for sharing!

I loved the cartoons playing at the races. I cut out during the marathon me whining and saying I was going to die and I hated it....It was rather pathetic, but funny in a way I suppose. Thanks for watching, I love other people's videos so figure I should share too.

Thanks for sharing your report! Doing Dopey is definitely a dream of mine, and it was fun to see what it is like through you! I am so sorry about the food poisoning though! My running partner got dehydration two days before PHM this year and had to sit it out. I'm impressed you were able to fight through and finish!

Thanks for reading! Dopey was pretty great, you'll have a blast! At least the getting sick has become a joke around my family now, but it is sad when I say I preferred running with the flu (full blown month long illness) in 2015 over food poisoning this year! Sorry about your friend no even getting to run. Hope you get to do Dopey & your friend gets a redo!
