My family and I have been planning a New Year's Eve trip to Disney World for two years now. I had it all mapped out and planned on booking a two bedroom and studio to accommodate our trip with 12 people. I had alarms set on my phone to know when my 11 month booking window was in order to book at Bay Lake Tower (our home resort). Here's my dilemma....I thought my 11 month was February 27th....NOT January 27th. When I realized my mistake today....my heart dropped...and I quickly logged onto the DVC website to book our dream vacation. OMG....no rooms available ANYWHERE at BLT for Dec. 30/31 for any room type!!!! I am devastated and sick about my mistake. I have booked rooms for the days that they were available (split stays for both room types).....and waitlisted the days that were NOT available. Has anyone been able to get a waitlist for a room on New Year's Eve? My husband refuses to switch hotels for a few nights (don't get me started on that one)....and I know I can try somewhere else at 7 months. But we have never been able to stay at our home resort and we have been planning for 2 years.....PIXIE DUST PLEASE!!!!! (I realize there are real problems in the world...and a vacation doesn't count as one of those but I am just soooo mad at myself for thinking I had until 2/27)!!!!!!

You did the right thing by waitlisting early. You have the advantage this year that some BLT owners will try to switch over to PVB on 2/25. My guess is your waitlist will come through.

One other option is to watch the Rent/Trade board here on the DIS (or another website) for a confirmed reservation at BLT for the dates you need. You would be paying cash but you could then rent out some of your BLT points on your own or through a service like David's to cover the cost of renting.
Good luck, OP. I feel for you. This booboo sounds like something I might do.

You could also see if the rooms are available for cash booking thru MS as a backup just in case the waitlist doesn't happen. It sounds like you need at least a couple to come thru which makes it a bit more difficult but I also think the NYE is one of those dates that people reserve if they have an inkling they might go and plans do change.

Make sure you check DVC website as often as possible without driving yourself crazy! I have heard a lot of stories of people being wait listed but finding there own availability by just checking back and hitting it at the right time. Good luck

I think it is early enough that your wait list will come through. Prayers and pixie dust just in case, but I have faith it will come through! I think your chances are even better considering PVB is coming online too.

I planned my New Years trip in August last year. I stumbled upon enough cancellations that I had a lake view studio for four nights, and a standard one bedroom for six nights, all at BLT. Things will change, but you'll need to check back often.

I'm in the same boat. My mom died 2 weeks ago and booking DVC was not on my radar. By the time I got to it, NYE itself was gone. I'm on the waitlist, but I'm also hoping to get into the Poly.

I will go in the opposite direction. Your wait list on the studio might be ok, but I would be surprised if you get the two bedroom. I was in the same boat a couple of years ago when I wanted to arrive on the 31st. I didn't walk my reservation and although the 31st was available the day before, it was taken by the time I tried to book. If I remember, the MK view 2 bedroom ran about 2k for New Years eve alone. We didn't waitlist as we changed our travel plans to arrive on the 1st.

BLT is always a desirable location but I would guess it is most desirable on NYE due to the fireworks and TOTWL.

I would have a backup plan if your waitlist doesn't come through (and what happens if the studio comes through and the 2 bedroom doesn't, etc.)
1) Have a cash reservation (I don't even think you can get a 2br cash)
2) Split Stay. This is your plan so far. It's the best option even though your husband doesn't want it.
3) Change your travel dates. You would be able to do this trip on the 1st (and it would be much less busy)

You might want to keep an eye on Poly as I'm not sure when they will be available to book, but there might be a rush at one point and if it is within 7 months, something might come available. You would have to do 3 studios there.

Best of luck.

I'm so sorry this happened to you! Just wanted to say I know that sick feeling of having screwed up. I invited my whole husbands family (MIL, SIL, BIL, and Niece) with us and said they could pick anywhere they wanted to stay because we had enough points for anywhere. When I went to make our initial place holder 11 month reservation I realized that I had gotten all confused with our use years, and we only had half the points I thought we had. It ended up working out ok, but we barely scraped together enough points for our reservation, and we were limited to SSR.

I hope your wait list comes through. Another option is to split up the two night wait list, into two single night wait list. It is more likely that just one night may become available than both nights together. As other's said, stalk the website at least once a day, and you may find your nights available one at a time to piece together your whole vacation.

Also check on the 7 month window, that is when people start switching resorts. Check every 1/2 hour thru out that day. There is usually a lapse time before the waitlist grabs the open dates.

We took a trip this year the same week. I booked OKW one bedroom - hospitality house at the 11 month window (so we had a solid reservation). I checked at the 7 month window to change to a different resort and nothing - I mean nothing - was open for the entire week. We could get random rooms at different resorts but nothing for the entire week at one resort. I would have a solid plan B. New Years is an expensive week and usually people plan for such a trip well in advance.

Several years ago I made some people happy when I cancelled a two standard view studios and a two bedroom BWV for 12/26-1/2. The CM told me that I would be making someone very happy. Pixie Dust to you, hope you get your wait list comes through.

So far no change in the waitlist, even after Poly went online on 2/11......and still nothing available at Bay Lake Tower (any category) for the days that I am missing! I am hoping someone out there cancels or changes their reservation for 12/30 and 12/31....those are the only days I am missing from my 12/27-1/2 reservation (both 1 bedroom and 2 bedroom reservations).

Is there a list somewhere which says how many of each room types there are at each DVC available to rent on points? This will help me try and figure out where I am most likely to get a different reservation at 7 months out. I am soooooo stressed out by this whole situation...and it is over 10 months away!!!

You need to calm down and relax a littLe. PVB does not fully open until tomorrow and like you stated you still have 10 months. We are booked at BCV for the last weekend of Flower & Garden and would have had to move every night because we were missing the 16th. We got our waitlist 2weeks later and we only booked at 100 days out. You are way up on the list and a lot came through last year For that tine period. Do a search on New Years waitlist and get a little reassurance.
Good luck, it will happen

Check the DVC Resource Center Sticky in this forum.

Only people who own at Poly can book NYE right now. Everyone else looking to move an existing res will need to wait until May (or 7 mos). You still have plenty of time to wait.

Thanks for everyone's encouraging words. By stalking the website, I now just need someone to graciously give up their BLT 2 bedroom lake view reservation for 12/31-1/1. Here's hoping someone out there wants to switch to the POLY or some other resort!!! Please keep sending me positive thoughts and pixie dust!

Did you check if the 2 nights were available for cash DVC. If so I would book that and then keep checking.
