DVC eliminated two of my closest located and most visited concierge selections. These were the Grand Hotel at Mackinac Island, MI and The American Club in Kohler, WI. I still want to visit these two resorts, so I sold 160 DVC points and am using the money and the dues savings to visit these resorts every other year or so. (I just returned from the Grand Hotel today.)

Does this sound familiar to anyone else? :thumbsup2

Do what ever makes you feel good. :hippie:

We are cheep and don't use our points outside of WDW and to us Concierge is no big deal, but that's us.

I wouldn't purchase DVC because of these resorts, therefore I wouldn't sell DVC because of these resorts.

Just my opinion..

I bought my DVC points to stay at Disney. I've always wanted to stay at the Grand, but I wouldn't trade out of DVC for it.

I live about 5-6hrs from The Grand, they always have some sort of deals going on even if you stay in summer. I've never run the cash/points scenarios to see if it was worth it.

I'll probably stop by there in 2 weeks when we go up to Boyne(will do a day trip to the Island).

I wouldn't mind trading out of DVC on an occasional basis, if it is somewhere I really wanted to stay (and I would love to stay at the Grand some day.) But I didn't buy DVC with the intention of trading on any sort of regular basis, and haven't traded out in all these years. So I wouldn't sell just because the concierge collection was trimmed, or even eliminated. I don't remember Buena Vista/Concierge Collection trades even being available in the early years of DVC.

But, if staying at one of those collection destinations is something a member did frequently, and they now see themselves with too many points to use at WDW on a regular basis, then I think selling is the right thing to do.

They likely saved you money in the long run for such use.

We ate lunch at the Grand one time and it was a place that did want to stay at using DVC points, but we never have enough points for our DVC vacations, never mind, using the points to trade out. If we ever find the vacation time to go there, we'll just pay out of pocket.

no...we just use our points to stay at wdw..so we're fine....so sorry you can't use the points to stay where you wanted to

I still havent figured out how to exchange??? DUH???

I would like to though!

I sold two of my contracts to stop paying Disney so darn much in member fees every month.

I don't know how some of you do it!! This was our first purchase and we only bought 200 pts. I did it as a COMMITMENT to my kids that we would keep taking them there, until they're pushing me around in a wheel chair!! But living in NJ and paying air fare, we can't afford to go every year AND pay maint fees!! We too only bought for the Disney experience!! ::MickeyMo

I tried that D&B, only problem I took the money and used it to book some cash trips to Disney. Pesky mouse always finds a way to get my money. ;)

They used to have so many awesome Hotels in the concierge collection that are now gone. Two more that come to mind are the Broadmoor in Colorado Springs and Shutters on the beach in Santa Monica. I always thought the concierge collection was a great selling point for people worried they would get burned out at Disney or their travel plans would change as they got older. Although these changes are disappointing to me, it has not been enough for me to want to sell yet.

Nope. Doesn't bother me. I think the point requirements for that collection are ABSURD anyway and would never go that route. We DO hope to trade out thru some of the other collections one day tho. Just not that one.
