Not a newbie, that would me! I saw an article in the Orlando Sentinel and thought it was pretty cool so I posted it here. Someone posted about the other thread so I deleted mine, I figured one thread on that subject was enough, given the direction the other one was taking at the time.

Glad it wasn't a newbie--I've seen that happen too many times. I really hate it when a newbie asks an innocent question or posts something not realizing the reaction. Glad you chimed in since I didn't have time to go back and figure out who posted it yesterday.

First, thanks to you all for the positive comments! I never thought that anyone was attacking me. I just felt bad that this was taking place on the Theme Parks board. If it had been on the CB, I'd have just stepped away and let it go!

I had stopped reading it. I didn't realize that Pete had posted to the thread. Wow! Now, I feel important!

Oh yes, I've seen that too and boy, does it get ugly quickly. There are just some real hot-button issues on these boards that a newby would have no clue about. I don't think it's immediately obvious that pool hopping ang mug re-using is the worst crime since sharing meals on the DDP.

I am surprised however that bilingual princesses became a problem. That one I really don't get and I am NOT a newby.

I'm not the least bit surprised. Any time anyone makes even the slightest HINT of embracing multiculturalism, people get up in arms about it.

Really? I didn't know they did that. I thought that if you asked, they would close it, no questions asked.

I've seen plenty of people get their threads locked when honestly I didn't think they "deserved" the privilige--kind of a "you made your bed, now lie in it!" principle. (NOT saying this about your situation--just others I have seen).

Peg, I don't think any one blames you, or could blame you for the direction the thread took.

I think it ended up being such a hot topic because people want to discuss it, and the push for Spanish has really started some strong reactions in many. I think people in life in Florida knows more about it then I do (living in MI, however Dearborn a few miles from us has the highest population of people from the mid east living in outside of the middle east, so it brings different issues.)

I think many people wrongly jumped to the conclusion that a princess who speaks Spanish would be a different version of the Disney princess. Like a stereotypical Latino women with dark hair and eyes in a Cinderella dress. Standing next to the typical Disney Cinderella.

That isn't the case as many people pointed out.

Also the thread brought up a very good topic. How much people would like a new princess, and how the need for a Black/African princess is something many people really want.

There was some ugliness (there always is) but it wasn't all bad and really did bring up an interesting debate with some good exchanges of ideas.

Don't worry Peg, everyone here knows that you are hardly a trouble maker! I don't think that it was a problem in the parks boards. After all that is where all the mugs and pool hopping debates take place.

There are definately some fiesty "DIS'ers" out there!
