Here is my VOTD (vent of the day):

People, when you say "I seen....whatever" it is just wrong, the correct thing to say is "I saw....whatever"

"I seen...." has been in at least three different posts today.

Also, as a friendly reminder, deFINITEly has the word finite in it, not finate.

Thanks for the vent.

Bravo!

Also - ridiculous does not contain an e.

Nothing wrong with having a bit of a grasp on grammar and spelling, it shows respect to the reader! Plus, spell check will catch 99% of this stuff regardless.

This could be the start of a very long series...

I look forward to a new VOTD each and every day. :thumbsup2

I believe that "I have seen" is also correct from a grammatical standpoint.

Eh... say what you want as long as you have a big heart. I won't judge a person who seen someone discard animals and rescued them. I have nothing but :lovestruc for this person. Now if a poster rode in on their high horse to tell us what great thing they seen, I might mock them a little.

ETA: It used to make my skin crawl until I started dating DBF. He says it all the time and is quite smart, just not book smart. There are all kinds of smarts.

I couldn't agree more. It bugs the crap out of me, and most times ppl. do it on purpose. I don't understand why you would try to make yourself sound uneducated:confused3

Yes, and so do noone and prolly. I have a lot of grammar/spelling pet peeves.

:) Michele <---- Queen of ending sentences with prepositions and not noticing her own typos!

Prolly is one of my LEAST favorite pseudo words on the Dis.

Here in Oklahoma some people put an "l" sound at the end of saw.

I sawl that movie too.

My former assistant manager used to say the "I seen..." all the time. It drove me crazy!!!! Oh...and conversate. UGH!!!!

Prolly also really gets to me!! There are many others but a new one I saw the other day on another board was one about "bran" new this and "bran" new that.

Yup. "I seen" is right up there with "I could of went…" Cringe-worthy, indeed!

I do not care for people who use "text" shorthand and/or incorrect forms of "yes" in a reply.

hehehehehehehe

RUM?

That's wrong on two levels since "I could of gone" isn't right either. My biggest pet peeve is using "of" in place of "have". :::shudder:::

It's could HAVE, would HAVE, should HAVE, people!!!

"I seen" has always been my personal pet peeve. I can't begin to believe the number of people that use it; most of them supposedly educated.

For the record, the word "seen" ALWAYS requires an auxiliary, or helping, verb.

My personal pet peeve is the misuse of "hopefully." Hopefully is an adverb and must modify a verb - to wait hopefully, to speak hopefully, etc. It should not stand alone - hopefully, we will go to WDW thi summer - that drives me crazy!
