I Really, Really Need Help re: WEATHER!!

I'm so anxious about our roadtrip that I'm beginning to feel like Santa; checking the weather, re-checking the weather. Trying to find alternate routes...Someone please help me!!!

I'll drive through snow storms with no problem, but let the skies get cloudy and I get nervous; not to mention how much rain will reduce my speed on the highway

I'm travelling from RI on Saturday the 16th, taking Route 81. Unfortunately it appears every single State I will encounter on Saturday is going to have rain, gusty wind, thunderstorms and in North Carolina isolated tornado's. (why does that look spelled wrong)

Anyways, now I'm thinking of leaving about 1:00 p.m. on Friday and driving as far as we can and picking up the drive on Saturday. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Also, can anyone in the southern east coast States please let me know exactly how much rain/wind your area is expecting?

Although I don't live in the south, last year when we drove down from NJ it rained all the way until NC. I did slow our trip down, so I would budget extra time.
