When we were growing up, farted was a very bad word. We used "poot" to mean "feces". I never even heard the word "fart" until I was 13 years old, and we were all sitting around in the living room, and suddenly my dad got up and said something "Who the h@$$ farted; if you need to go to the bathroom, go. Don't dry them and blow them out".
Around here, the word "poot" seems to mean the third hole that females have and males don't. At least, that's how some of my female patients refer to it. I was totally lost the first time I heard it used that way when one of my patients was having trouble with her "poot". I had to have her start over and explain in different terms what the problem was, because she was using so many euphemisms and unusual terms, I couldn't figure out what her symptoms were. Not sure if she was having trouble with constipation or gas or what. Turned out she was have trouble with her periods.
