I Paid Someone $5 for a Catchy Trip Report Title, and This is All I Got-Updated 12/29

I hear you, I don't have one of just me from out trip. Although I don't have one of just DH either...bad photographer! My Dh will do the arm thing for "couple" shots, they are hysterical. Perhaps if you're gumby it'd work better.

Honored to call you out in the first post, the hiddien blessing of being on west coast time.

:rotfl:

I was thinking about that -- by the time I finish posting, I should be in bed, and probably everyone else on the east coast is. But fortunately, either you or Jordan chime in not too long afterward.

LOL!

Last year I went to WDW with my sister´s family, and my nephew (then 6, and in his first trip to WDW) really got the hang of the so called "thrill rides". But unfortunately EE was too dark for his taste so we rode it only once... yes my first and only ride on EE to date... we even had FPs for a second ride in a row but we didn´t use them (kept them like a souvenir) I really love my family :rotfl:

Would you believe he rode RnR like 3 times in a row but one HM trip was one too many for him  ?

You never know what will scare them. I'm sure you read earlier in my trip report that James only made it as far as the "stretching room" in the Haunted Mansion.

The theming of AK and AKL is so amazing. I really can just walk around the park and see new things every time....something as simple as a sign over a water fountain....so cool.

Another thing I thought of since I wrote the post was I noticed the ground outside of EE was made to look kind of like mud. There are even bicycle tracks running through it.

I'm finally caught up and I'm loving this TR! I have yet to make it onto EE and just last year made it onto RnR. :faint::duck: I can't wait to read more. And see more pictures. ::yes::

:welcome: disbugsmomma! It's posts like yours that keep me going. Well, yours and those from Jordan reminding me that it's time for a new installment.

From your ticker it looks like you have a date with EE in 2010!

Bribery my friend, is part of parenting 101:thumbsup2

I've used it many times sometimes it even works.

You're right, but I think they call it "goal setting" or something, so that it sounds more acceptable.

I love the seeing the yeti picture. :rotfl2:

Thank you! But one of my all-time favorite Disboards pictures is your "sucker envy" photo. I'm serious.

People, if you haven't seen it you must read this post

I haven't braved Kali yet because I don't enjoy being fully clothed and wet, at the same time.
I've decided to try it on our next trip but I will be armed with a rain coat, rubber boots and umbrella.

Your MIL probably had all of that stuff with her the last time you were there and you didn't even know it.

:lmao::lmao::lmao:

you're so right! she's like Inspector Gadget.

I just laughed so loud, I scared my dog..:rotfl2:

LOL! You are right, that photo is beyond funny and cute. How comes I never visted that TR before?

Well, more reading material! Thanks!

Hey what's up brother? Have you recovered yet from PSU's loss to Iowa?

I'm still here. No, haven't really recovered yet. I was miserable to live with for a day or so. Sunday's sermon was on not letting your happiness be dictated by your circumstances and I got a lot of elbows from my wife. Then her Steelers lost to Cincy that afternoon and I got to remind her of all of that. Hopefully today's result will be better.

Back to the trip report. When I last left you it was day 6 of our trip, we were enjoying Disney’s Animal Kingdom, and I had just gotten soaked on Kali River Rapids.

After that we decided that it was time for lunch. We had made sandwiches back in our suite and brought them into the park in order to save a little money. We decided that the seating area behind Yak and Yeti was a good place to sit down to eat. Just then, I realized that our fastpass window was open, so I said that the rest of the family could get started eating while I scooted over to Africa to get fastpasses for Kilimanjaro Safaris. So off I went.

When I got to the fastpass machines, all of our annual passes were wet, from being in my pocket on Kali. (Why are annual passes made out of paper?!! :confused3) I don’t remember if I tried them and they didn’t work, or if a cast member was right there and I mentioned it as I took them out, but anyway, she took them and dried each one off on her pants-leg, and then reached behind the fastpass machine and pushed some magic button or something to shoot 5 fastpasses out for me. I thanked her and started heading back toward the rest of the gang.

Here are my fastpasses and an unfocused crowd beginning to descend on Africa.

In this photo, the crowd’s a little more focused.

The Tree of Life as I make my way along the path towards Flights of Wonder.

img_1113.jpg

Then I got back to the rest of my family and was telling Judy how the passes were all wet and the CM dried them off, but she didn’t use them in the machine, she reached behind it and shot the fastpasses out, and it was like I was listening to myself, and the words jumped out at me – “she didn’t use the park passes” -- they could still be used! So, since Kali was nearby I went over and got 5 more fastpasses!

We ate our scrumptuous sandwiches and chex mix and then walked over to the Maharaja Jungle Trek, but found it closed. I think this was our third time visiting Animal Kingdom, and we’d never made it to the Maharaja Jungle Trek. Oh well, not today either. So we just decided to make our way over to Kilimanjaro Safaris. I took a picture of the Yak and Yeti, even though we didn’t technically eat their food, just used their picnic tables. I love the name, but it doesn’t conjure a vision of fine dining.

img_1118.jpg

We got to Kilimanjaro Safaris right at the start of our fastpass window. Here, come along on a photo tour of our ride:

Wait! Come back! Was it something I said?

img_1140.jpg

This is my typical lion picture. Just a bunch of brown fuzz.

img_1145.jpg

This ride does do a good job at making you believe you are riding through a savanna where all of the animals run free. It’s hard to see the trenches and things that keep them confined.

Yeah! We helped catch the poachers and saved the baby elephant!

After Kilimanjaro we went on the Pangani Forest Exploration Trail. Here’s an okapi. (They'll soon have one of these on the savanna at Kidani, but they didn't have it when we were there. Something to look forward to for next year.)

img_1148.jpg

And this is the best picture I could get of the gorilla. He was doing his best to make it difficult to get a good shot of him.

img_1150.jpg

Then we left Africa to go back to Asia. Along the path near the water, where you can see the Tree of Life, we ran into the same photopass photographer lady who had taken our pictures earlier, and she wasn’t photographing anyone. So we asked her to take our picture there.

Here’s one with my camera.

img_1151.jpg

A few nice family shots.

Image0671.jpg

Image0675.jpg

Then she asked, ”do you have any magic shots yet?” :wizard: We said we didn’t. So then she asked Marlene, "the drama queen" (photopass lady's words), to hold her arms like she was holding a baby, and for the rest of us to look surprised.

Image0678.jpg

Image0681.jpg

Then, with three kids, we had to do it a few more times. In this one I didn’t get the memo that we were supposed to look at the camera.

Image0684.jpg

And a couple more.

Image0688.jpg

Image0691.jpg

Well, the photopass lady didn’t have any business when we happened upon her, but by this point a whole crowd had formed around her, since people were seeing her give us a veritable photo shoot, with ”magic” shots and everything. We thanked her, pushed our way through the crowd, and continued on to Asia.

In the next installment: Another spin of Kali River Roulette, and will James conquer Everest?

Nice score on the FastPasses!

Do you know why the Maharajah Jungle Trek was closed?

The PhotoPass pix came out great. Love a few of your expressions:thumbsup2

Is Kali River Rapid Roulette anything like Airfare Roulette?;)

Nice score on the FastPasses!

It really did not occur to me until I recounted the story.

Do you know why the Maharajah Jungle Trek was closed?

No, the CMs out front didn't give us a reason. We went back to AK later in the trip, so stay tuned to see if we finally get there.

Yes, with either one there's a good chance somebody's gonna get soaked!

Yay! updates!

great PP pictures! Love all the simba shots, what a riot!

That was quite the score on the Kali FP's, very impressive. I hope you make it on the jungle trek, we haven't made it to that one either!

For some reason the name Yak and Yeti just cracks me up. Quite possibly from a takeout place we used to go to as kids called Yaks (a teriyaki place). We'd have "yak attacks". Which apparently is actually a drink at AK, sold at Y&Y counter service but I've yet to try that concoction.

Someday.

I wonder why the anal passes are paper but the ones you get for just a week are plastic....doesn't make sense.:confused3

great photopass pics......I love how you seem to be surprised for all of the simba ones.:rotfl2:

Read the first paragraph, first sentence...first six words are very crucial - the rest just makes it better.

Was that a typo? Didn't know that Disney was now run by proctologists! Where am I when the Memo's are handed out? :lmao::rotfl2:

Okay - after cracking myself up...I love the trip report! I follow Winkers. Or at least I did. When she asks to get passed a glove - I am bailing.;):rotfl:

I have to ask...what company does your wife work with in the direct sales biz? I worked with Tupperware for 8 years and just switched to Silpada - she looks very familiar and I am not sure if it is just because she and I have met or if she just looks like someone I know.

Thanks and I also have to say I have never seen a family that takes so many great pics! Usually one of us have crazy eyes or drool! :lmao:

Ok maybe notthat bad but at least a squint! ;)

Sounds like someplace you'd go at 2 in the morning, after a night of :drinking1

Darned Freudian slips!

But back to the topic -- exactly, the passes for a week are plastic, those for a year are paper....huh?

great photopass pics......I love how you seem to be surprised for all of the simba ones.:rotfl2:

I can take direction (after all, I've been married for 20 years).

First, :welcome: I'm pretty sure this is your first post here on my trip report. We're glad to have you along.

I don't want to speak for Winkers, but I'm pretty sure that was a typo. There are a lot of things you're entitled to when you buy a year's-worth of Disney, but that ain't one of 'em.
