Enjoyed the Boma review. It is one of our favorites also, even though we didn't eat there this trip. You had some of my favorites in your pictures, especially the pasta salad and the prime rib with the Boma mustard sauce....mmm!
Check out my OKW trip report in my siggie sometime and you will see some of the same stuff in my pictures from Boma. The kids really liked the pineapple upside down cheesecake and of course you can't do Boma without the zebra domes!
Are the kids back in school yet? The local schools started back here again yesterday, although Alison had to report back to work last week. Matthew has been back for two weeks already. The new freshmen reported this past Saturday and he is obviously having too much fun so far "welcoming" them.
We got our buzzer and waited, and waited
, and waited some more
. It was 7:40 when we were finally seated. On the way to our table the CM asked Judy if it was our first time eating there. She replied, Yes, and itll probably be our last based upon how long it has taken us to be seated with a reservation.
The restaurant was definitely behind the 8-ball now, in trying to please us. Im pretty forgiving, but Judy and the kids were not happy.
We had a great server, Randall, who apologized profusely about the wait. He said the longest he remembered anyone having to wait for a table was about 15 minutes.
Oh, I should mention that since James is 9 he was able to order off of the (cheaper!) kids menu. The problem here though, was that the only real Indian dish on the kids menu was tandoori chicken. Im sure they dont expect young kids to want Indian food, but James wanted to try the short ribs. So, Judy asked if they could substitute short ribs for the chicken. (Okay, now were being the trouble-making customers.) Randall checked with the chef, and came back to report that they could.
Soon, everything arrived. The picture below is of the bread service items, we got two orders since there were five of us (and hungry) and the menu says it serves two. We were able to try all four of the bread options since you have a choice of three and we put in two orders. We liked the paneer paratha bread since it contained cheese (thats the paneer part of paneer paratha!). The accompaniments we selected were: starting with the left plate, upper left item, going clock-wise -- roasted red bell pepper hummus, mango chutney, and cucumber raita. Then on the right plate, starting at the top, garlic-ginger pickle, tamarind chutney, and coriander chutney. We really liked these, and I wish I could give you a solid recommendation, but we all liked different ones. Judy liked the garlic-ginger, which was kind of spicy. I liked the tamarind chutney, which was pretty sweet. The hummus, mango chutney, and cucumber raita were good, and are pretty common Indian restaurant items. I think I liked the coriander chutney, but dont remember that one very well.
Lauren ordered from the Slow Cooked in Gravy section of the menu. You get to pick two items, along with basmati rice or five-grain pilaf. She got the shrimp with green curry sauce and the beef short ribs. The kids must be getting used to my insistence to photograph everything, as Lauren is running her "model hands" along the food.
Marlene got the dum biryani. Its vegetables inside of a baked dough shell.
Judy got the banana leaf-wrapped sustainable fish.(This is probably the only time I'll use the word "banana" in this TR, so had to insert the dancing banana smilie.)
And I also ordered from the Slow Cooked section of the menu, selecting the beef short ribs, basmati rice, and the chicken with red sauce.
The server insisted upon unwrapping Judys fish, since theres a possibility of getting injured from the steam.
We ate and everyone loved their food. The kids thought it was awesome! The only leftovers we had were some of James short ribs. (I told you we were hungry!) We were feeling a little better over the wait we had to get in.
And lastly, desserts. James got the rice pudding with caramel sauce from the kids menu. In the time since we arrived back home I saw on someone elses trip report that they didnt like the rice pudding. I told James and he was shocked. He really liked it. I tried it and thought it was good too.

The rest of us got a chai cream to try. Randall, our server, said it tasted like Christmas. And I thought I tasted some nutmeg in it, but he said that it had none. It was pretty good, and different from just about anything Ive ever had. He also brought out one last item to appease us for the wait we endured -- a piece of egg-less chocolate cake, on the mouse. It was quite good.
Oh, I almost forgot -- the kids wrote "Randall Rocks" on the kids menu and left it for him. He really was a fantastic server. Very attentive and friendly. He seemed to really appreciate that they left him a note, and he told me he was going to take it home.
Eventually it became evident that the gentle stirring of activity wasnt doing the trick, so Judy had to pull back the curtains and exclaim, Stop yer snorin and lets get to Soarin. (Yes, she really said that.)
While in line I had the ideathat at Epcot Disney should offer face paintings of the test dummy circles -- the ones that are four quadrants of yellow and black. I think they'd be popular. I'd get one. Okay, no I wouldn't, but I bet other people would.
I wanted to make sure that we got to see the oom-pah band, Oktoberfest Musikanten, so thats part of the reason why I made our ADR time for 1:00, I had seen on a Disney World entertainment website that they started at 1:15, so I figured that would give us time to begin eating and then enjoy the entertainment. And right on cue

Heres a good shot of the overall room. Leave it to Disney to be able to make you feel like youre outside, at night, in Germany, enjoying Octoberfest. The theming even included a full moon.

Marlene started on dessert. This was like a berry concoction (looking at allears.net I think its called Rote Gruetze with Vanilla Sauce, although she didnt get the sauce) and Blackforest Cake. She loved them both, but especially the berry concoction.

Heres Judys dessert sampler. The item in the upper left was a strawberry-rhubarb kind of thing. I dont see it listed on allears.net. Then going around the plate: apple strudel, Bavarian cheese cake, and Blackforest cake. Judy loved the cheesecake. It had a different consistency than the cheesecake were used to -- it was creamier.

The band began their beer barrel battle of the bells, or maybe it was battle of the beer barrel bells. I dont know. I think Ive got all the right words in there, just not sure about the order.

I went to get dessert and a guy in the band started playing this Alphorn. Judy took this picture. I think its her only one of the trip.

The fourth day of our trip would be our Disney Hollywood Studios day. I still cant get used to that, DHS. I always want to call it MGM.
I was disappointed that they didn't have Carrot Ginger soup out that night. It's one of my favorites here.
II see people post about having to be adventurous eaters for Boma, but Im not so sure. There are lots of options for the non-adventurous. I dont have pictures, since I didnt eat them that night, but they have other meats, chicken fingers, salad, spaghetti and meatballs, and macaroni and cheese. I realize, you dont want to pay buffet prices for these types of things, but Im just saying you can try new things and not have to worry about going hungry if you dont like them.
Swiffer is so cute and glad that he is on the mend.
very much enjoying your report! We are also a family of 5, (although we're boy-boy-girl), and are staying DVC this November. (my parents own). We will be staying at POR, OKW AND AKV! Same idea as you all - the first two nights at POR cause it's the weekend and we want to save points....I'm excited to be at AKV- we are in the Jambo house, but we'll def walk over to Kadani to check it out.
Congrats to your wife for doing so well with her own business. Makes me want to whip up something yummy, as I can guess by your comments which one she works for. (baking stone, anyone?)
I'm sorry you had to wait that long. We often had to wait on our trip, the crowds were insane. Worst wait was Teppan Edo, probably close to 30 minutes but PTC was a good 20 I'd say.
Still, it sounds like Randall more than made up for it and I love the dining review and pictures. This is a definite for us on our next trip. I am really impressed they let you make that kind of trade on the kids meal, I am (sadly) guessing it is b/c you were not on the DDP.
Anything that is described as tasting like Christmas MUST be tried!
what WONDERFUL Biergarten pictures! My poor digital just couldn't hack the low light interior shots. Thank you for sharing these. Ah, the berry concoction and the bavarian cheesecake. 2 of our absolute favorite desserts of our trip. Even better if you pour the berry concoction over the cheesecake!
Okay...trying to catch up as I sit here coughing up a lung.
Lights, Motor, Action is a great show. We can never time our visit to DHS right so we can see this show again. I do have it scheduled for one of my solo days....we'll see.
In my 13 visits to WDW, I only run into someone I knew one time and it was in 1991, my first visit.
Boma--have yet to eat there....it may be on the backburner for this upcoming trip as well...![]()
I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Jiko so I know I'd love the distinct flavors of Boma! MAYBE, instead of hitting up Jiko, I'll eat at Boma instead......
