I overpacked

3 days till our 1st cruise!!! And YES I overpacked. I've been coming to these boards for months now to get some great advice and tips to enjoy our cruise. And all the advice has been extremely helpful. And I've read about not overpacking. And took all of that knowledge and gathered all the family's clothes and was on a mission to NOT overpacked. But you know what? I did. I just couldn't help myself. I kept saying we may need this and we may need that. And one suitcase had extra room so couldn't let the space go to waste. So when you see the family with ALL sorts of suitcase be sure to give us a wave. Cause we are excited for our first cruise!!!

Congrats on your first cruise! I'm sure it will be the first of many. If you like to buy souvenirs you may want to reconsider filling the last suitcase with extra clothes. You'll need somewhere to pack all your new purchases

I feel you!!
I overpack on every cruise and don't wear half of what I bring, but I bring it just in case...... We do laundry too while onboard.
Oh and my husband really LOVES my shoe suitcase.........NOT!!!!

I have a suitcase for shoes , but I do put things like blowdryers and flatirons in there too. I bring a lot of shoes, but to be fair when I do this we are usually traveling for close to 3 weeks, so you need to be prepared, right??? LOL
*** I allow my husband to put his extra shoes in there too, I think that is super nice of me.

Welcome to the club! My husband Just shakes his head and keeps his mouth shut. I need day clothes, two swim suites and cover ups, workout clothes, pjs and underwear (two changes per day), and evening clothes (nice and really nice) with at least 4 or 5 pairs of shoes and a couple of smaller purses for evening, plus all the sundries, facial products, lots of sun screen, beach bags, etc. plus lots of books because I won't read off a kindle.

I will also be over packed and it will be really bad because our cruise is 14 days. This is probably the last year that DD will want to wear princess dresses so we are bringing several of those too We are also dressing up for all of our dinners. I refuse to do laundry on vacation!

We took two large and two small (carry-on sized) suitcases and only opened two of them. We always overpack, but you never know, you just might need something...

That's a good point!! People always forget that they will inevitably come home with more than they left with! I always pack a collapsible duffle bag that was a gift with purchase at WDW one year. That way we always have room to bring the extra goodies home.

I actually started out overpacking for our first cruise (just DH and I) and ended up from the advice of a friend, take half of what I had just packed out. So I did.... Hubby on the other hand said he wanted everything he packed so leave his stuff alone. He overpacked and didnt wear half his clothing and I actually didnt have enough LOL.

We did the WBPC for 14 nights, plus 3 days in Miami. We had 11 bags for 3 people 3 large, 3 roll aboard, 3 under the seat bags (made to go under)...plus I had 2 tote bags that I carried on. For some reason, they never enforce tote bags when you board. Its like shopping bags and you can bring as many of those onboard as you want. (So there is a tip for you. I learned that tip from the United Counter in Liberia

I don't have a single problem with overpacking, especially for a cruise. Budget to tip the people you'll hire to take the bags, let others take the bags, don't require family members to deal with the bags (apart from getting them into your car on the way to the airport and back home), and there's not really such a thing. as overpacking.

What it is is having options.

That said, I do like it when most of my dresses go with one pair of shoes. Because I like putting my dresses (I always wear a dress to dinner) and shoes into to my flight carryon, along with swimsuit, all undergarments, and a coverup, so I'm covered with the absolute essentials in case my checked bags take a side trip.

Yes I've even thought of the souvenir thing so because we are driving I packed an empty duffel bag for the trip home.

Just remember to leave a little bit of empty space for anything you buy while on the cruise. We came home w/ 2 pillow pets, 3 stuffed animals and two huge conch shells, beach towels.....it was quite a chore to get it all in our bags!

Very smart. We had friends whose bag with all their dress clothes never did show up (was eventually returned to them at home after their cruise). They luckily had other friends on board who were of similar size and were able to borrow a couple of blouses for dinner.

I cross pack. I make sure there is one complete outfit for each person in every bag. That way if one gets lost you still have one change of clothes.

I have actually started to ship gifts back home to our grandkids while we are still on vacation, so I don't have to lug them on the plane.
They love getting a box of presents while we are gone.
I am restricted if we are on a Disney vacation though, I can't send anything Disney or they will be mad we didn't bring them with us.
They always ask before we leave, "are you going on "Mickey's" boat"?

all of this less the Kindle because I do prefer that. You forgot the other electronics and chargers...camera, fit bit, back up battery, multi-charger. Binoculars. Beach Bag. etc. etc. All the things DH asks for once there but doesn't bother to pack. "yes dear, WE brought that" SMH.

Agreed. I always say that while I might not use it, I certainly can't use if I haven't brought it. In other words, it does me no good to leave it home.

We are doing our first 3 night and I'm going to bring one suitcase, a small bag, and a carry on for fins and beer for the two of us. Only bringing Teva olowahu sandals that fit in the pockets. Wish me luck.
