I have never really entertained before. I have had family and friends over for dinner, of course, but nothing formal.

Next week I am having a coworker and her husband over for dinner. I am making a cheesy pasta chicken dish with salad and bread, and am making chocolate Kahlua pound cake for dessert.

My question is: I thought about serving a light appetizer for them to snack on while I am finishing dinner. Any ideas? I thought about a spinach artichoke dip and chips/bagel chips, or a spinach con queso, or some other dip.

Does anyone have any tips or suggestions? Anyone have a crowd pleaser?? :)

Thanks!

ETA: If it's something I could assemble the day before and bake/cook the day of, that would be great!

We had a few friends over last week and served pepperoni and cheese and bruschetta as appetizers.

My DSIL made the bruschetta...took tomataoes and chopped them up very fine, added some basil and chopped up mozzarella, and did a balsamic vinegar/olive oil dressing over the whole thing. She got a loaf of skinny bread and sliced it thinly, brushed the slices with olive oil and a little pepper and grilled them in the oven.

Delish!!!!

LindseyDunn,

You know what I think would be fabulous (at least for me)? A cheeseboard. Get a wooden serving board, get a wedge of good blue cheese and maybe two other "different" spreadable cheeses. Then get some nice red grapes and some ripe pears and put them on the cheeseboard with some simple water crackers. This is VERY yummy.

Dip is good to but I would stay away from any "creamy" filling dips since you are having a cheesy pasta dish.
