I'm new to WISH, hello everyone.. :wave2:

I posted somewhere last night but I was very tired and can't remember where I put it, so I'm going to start over, I guess.
I have been trying to diet and exercise for about a month to two months, I've lost about ten pounds, but I have a L-O-N-G way to go. I would like to lose 40-50 pounds before DH and I leave for WDW in September.
I would like to know what seems to work best for everyone. I cut out drinking regular soda and now only drink diet, tea or water. I don't eat that much red meat and I'm trying really hard not to snack, or eat anything past 6:30pm.
I just wanted to find out what seems to work better IYHO, low-fat or low-carb? oh, how I love my carbs..

some help please! ANY suggestions would be welcome..

Hi!! Nice to meet you. :sunny: I am currently doing South Beach and have been for two years. It is a very slow go, but it is easy to stick with. I think you just have to find out what fits best for you. Good luck!!

First of all, you are off to a great start! congrats on the healthy eating, exercise, & already 10 pounds! Low Fat doesn't work for me because I am always hungry when I try low fat. No carbs doesn't work for me because I love my carbs too ;) What works for me is NO WHITES (bad carbs). No sugar, white bread, pasta, potatoes, refined carbs, etc. I still eat limited fat & I still eat WHOLE GRAINS. I stay satisfied, but still lose weight - it is a nice compromise for me. Good Luck! :goodvibes

Welcome Imaginemedisney,

Since you've asked my honest opinion about what works best for weight loss...well, I'm not a big fan of gimmicks. Lets face it, we get overweight because we eat more food than our bodies need, we don't exercise enough, and we're probably eating food that is of little nutritional value.

The fact is, I have learned to enjoy eating food that isn't good for my body. And I have to learn (very painstakingly) how to eat food that is good for me, in the quantities that my body needs, and to exercise to keep my body in good working condition. (Sounds like I'm talking about a car, but I'm sure my car wouldn't be doing well if I fueled it with chocolate and cheeseburgers and never gave it proper maintenance.)

I've done well with eating lower fat (still not LOW FAT, but better than I was), smaller portions, eating more fruits and veggies and exercising (both cardio and strength training). I've just got to make sure that this is something I stick with forever. So I don't have any foods that I consider forbidden. But I'm working on limiting the quantities and frequency of many foods that aren't nutritious. (Eating a smaller piece of my daughter's birthday cake, for instance.)

Like Spoisal, I try to stick with whole wheat carbs as much as possible.

If you aren't already eating lots of fruits and veggies, try adding some in place of those bad snacks you're working on getting rid of. It works great for me to grab an apple or carrot sticks instead of some chocolate for an afternoon craving.

Also, especially as the weather gets nicer, you should really try to get some more exercise. Maybe get DH to agree to an evening walk after dinner every night? You'll increase your metabolism which will help you lose weight faster, you'll be improving your cardiovascular health, and you'll be preparing for all of that walking at WDW!

If you're already doing some exercise, then changing up with a new exercise class or video is always a great way to stay motivated.

Good Luck!

I do need to exercise more, I agree. I've made the decision to cut out soda alltogether, instead of just diet. I also went and checked out the local Curves gym yesterday, I think I'm going to join! I'm so happy and proud of myself even though I haven't "officially" started dieting yet. The decision to change my life for good has boosted my self-confidence tremendously already!

Thanks for the support and good luck to everyone! :grouphug:

I'm SO excited for you! :Pinkbounc I know how great it feels to discover pride in yourself for making a decision to live a healthier lifestyle. Your posts remind me very much of the way I began my journey at the beginning of this month. (However, I didn't loose any weight in the beginning, so congrats on the 10 pounds! :cheer2: )

I started by gearing up mentally for a new way of life and then I made the first big step: I joined Curves. Curves did so much for me just in the first week! Much to my surprise, I found I was inspired to commit to healthy eating (dieting). I rejoined Weight Watchers the following week, and I'm doing great. (I've been doing both programs together for 2 weeks and 2 days now, and I'm down 7.6 pounds--YAY me!)

I think you'll LOVE Curves! I know I do. It's way more fun than walking, etc. (Of course, this is just my own personal opinion.) I honestly don't know why it took me so long to join. My local Curves (just 5-minutes from my house) opened in Sept. 04. :confused3 Oh well....all that really matters is that I'm there now! :sunny:

BTW, if you think you have a L-O-N-G way to go with only 40-50 pounds to lose, then I have a L-O-O-O-O-O-O-O-O-N-G way to go with 150+ pounds to lose. However, I choose not to look at the big picture on a daily basis. As per one board member's advice (Dax :goodvibes ), I'm taking it in chunks. I've made a list of mini goals for myself so that I can check each one off as I complete it. It's working quite nicely. The list includes my final goals, so I always know what is waiting for me in the distant future, but I get to celebrate lots of mini goals along the way. I have found this list to be quite fun and VERY motivating. :)

:wizard: Good luck to you! I know you'll do great! :cheer2:

Yay you for your weight loss! :flower: I have decided I am, in fact, going to join Curves, and while the planner and I have set my goal at 40 pounds, that's just my Curves goal to lose by September. :teeth: My personal goal is to lose 70 pounds (or more, but 70 seems like a good number right now). It'll be a long process ( :hourglass ) but I'm sure that with encouragement from DH, my friends and this board, I'll be able to do it!!

Yay for the DIS! Good Luck!! :thewave: :thewave:

BTW, I love your avatar. Cindy fan all the way! She was the theme of my wedding. :lovestruc
