I need opinions

You may want to look at staying at the Swan or Dolphin. The rooms compare pretty well to the deluxes and can often be had for moderate prices. Unfortunately, you won't have access to Magical Express and you can't charge anything to your room throughout WDW. I've stayed there several times and enjoyed every single one. The location is great and the Heavenly Beds cannot be beat!

Perhaps you could take a look at the Wilderness Lodge (my personal favorite) or even the Animal Kingdom Lodge. They are both deluxe resorts but with a lower price than at the Poly.;)

What about staying in one of the moderates, or one of the less expensive deluxes? Animal Kingdom Lodge is only $200 most nights in January.

This.

I say stay someplace different, even if you want to save the money. Animal Kingdom Lodge (if you can get the same promo there), would be a great compromise, and probably still save you some money. Same with one one of the Port Orleans resorts.

If money is an issue I would go for a less expensive resort. I wouldn't be able to enjoy a vacation if I was worried about the expense. We don't go until we have saved enough money for the resort or stateroom (DCL) we want to stay in. Our upcoming Panama Canal cruise is an exception :scared:, who knows if we'll have the opportunity to cruise it with DCL again. Over time we'll get it paid off, it will just take a little longer to save enough money for our next Disney vacation :(

Staying at the Poly is great, but not enough to jeopardize your financial well being if things are really tight. That said, I'm a split the baby kind of guy - I'd look at other options, moderates, swan/dolphin, renting DVC points. You'll spend much less than Poly, but can still have a big upgrade to your vacation and make wonderful new memories.

I would go with All Stars, especially if money is tight. You will feel better about it. Save the money for a another trip to Poly when times are better. Plus, you get a fab. food court at All stars that you wouldn't get at Poly!! I know how you feel. Poly is my dream too, but I'm waiting until it makes more sense financially. So, for now, it's POP for us. Enjoy your trip either way!!

How many nights are you staying? Is that $700 over 7 nights or 2? Because if you are on a weeklong trip and it is only $700 more to stay at the Poly than a value, that's a great deal. I don't want you to spend over your means, but I am curious about the amount of nights you are staying!

go with the value.

If things are tight you need to be responsible, not just forget about everything and splurge....

Set a budget of what you can afford and stick to it, even if it means you cant stay deluxe.

I am sure that 700 will go a long way. Other people's opinions mean nothing when it comes to your personal finances and you obviously have your head on your shoulders or else you would not be concerned.

If money were tight for me, I really wouldn't enjoy my trip as much. Personally, I'd save the money for now and go with what you can comfortably afford. The Poly will still be there, and WDW will still do promos to fill rooms. Maybe not all the time, but they will definitely still happen.

ITA.. $700 is a lot of $$ , at least for me. You will have a great time no matter where you stay!

Thank you for the feedback. We're only going for four nights so we're going to switch to All Star. I know will have fun and all that matters is that we're together as a family. Our last visit a couple of years ago we stayed at GF, but our situation was different then. Since asking for opinions we had to buy a new hot water heater and our washer is leaking from the wall because it's backed up. So I guess the Poly is just not meant to be.

You could switch to a Moderate, or for slightly more, try the Wilderness Lodge. It has an atmosphere all its own, and is very convenient to MK by boat.
