DH and I have decided spur of the moment to surprise the kids with a few days at disney. We want to check in on Thurs and leave on Sat. Unfortunately, I can't find a room anywhere on disney property! I don't know much about off property hotels so I need some help! I don't want bottom of the barrel (I gotta have something CLEAN!) but I don't want to pay an outrageous amount either. Any suggestions?

What's your mode of travel?
Are you willing to stay off property?
Have you thought about Priceline?

We were in the same boat a few weeks back- DH had an unexpected business trip come up during the time we were going to be at Disney, and we had to scramble.
We'd had ressies at the CR, and had to cancel them and move our weekend to another one. So now we're going at the end of this week instead.

You might want to think about how much you're willing to spend on accommodations, and cruise the hotel/motel websites too. We ended up with a super rate last weekend up in Virginia for the weekend. The room had a rack rate of $279 and we got it for $55.

Hope that this input helps....

Yes, we are willing to stay off-property but my question is, what is a good hotel off property? I've only stayed on property and really don't know the good from the bad as far as off property. I want to be close enough to DW so that I don't get caught up in the yucky traffic trying to get there. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I'm thinking no more than $100-$150 per night.

When are you going? If there is avaialbility at a DVC resort (best shot would be OKW) for a member using points you could possibly rent points for your stay. I could check availability for your dates if you like. You can find more info on renting on the DVC Rent/Trade board.

I recommend the Lake Buena Vista area. Traffic is more manageable than Kissimee and the area is fairly nice. I have either stayed in or know friends who have stayed in the following and they have been nice.

Hampton Inn, Marriott Village hotels (Fairfield, Courtyard, Springhill suites) Caribe Royal. There are lots of other choices in this area.

Thanks for all the help! Persistance pays off - we were able to get in at All Star Movies afterall! Woo hoo!

I stayed at the Best Western Lake Buena Vista a couple years ago (it's right outside Downtown Disney) and was happy with it. It's clean and has very large rooms. We had a higher floor with a view off DD and EPCOT/Contemporary in the distance. We got it from www.travelweb.com for about $70-something per night.
