Ok, so I'm obviously not a teen, but I figured this was the best place to come for help with this. I am going to buy my son an iPod video next week (I know, he's the only kid in America that doesn't have one yet), and I want to know what I really need to buy to go with it. Will it come with all the stuff he'll need to actually use it? Are there any really cool accessories that I absolutely must buy? I appreciate any help with this.

The iPod comes with a cable to hook it up to the computer and little ear buds.

The ear buds are awful... I hate them. You might want to consider buying another set of head phones. The buds are small, and they're kind of hard to keep in your ear.

no he's not! i dont have one and am functioning JUST fine! lol.

You have to plug it into the the computer to charge it, so I would consider buying the wall outlet adapter. Maybe also a car charger, and a case to protect it. If he gets a case that doesn't have a cover for the screen, I would recommend buying one. They're pretty cheap, and go right over the screen. Just to be safe ;] The best iPod and iPod accessories selection I've seen is at Target. Hope I helped!! =]

That's the wall adapter. It's real name is Apple iPod USB Power Adapter.

I just received a black iPod video for Christmas and what came with it was:

The iPod
Earbuds
Charger
USB
User's Guide

I might also recommend getting a different set of earphones unless he likes the earbuds. I would also recommend getting an adapter to listen to the iPod through a stereo, CD player, TV, and for the car. I bought one (with the single plug in and the 3 (colored) plug in at FYE for $8.99. FYE is sometimes very expensive, so you might find them cheaper (even though I thought that was a pretty good deal).

I got my iPod in June and went until Christmas without any "special" accessories, I only had what my iPod came with.

Oh, but there was the car adaptor for our road trip. Anyway, for Christmas I recieved the Sound Dock, two iPod cases (pink and black, without screen covering), and and iPod armband, for running and other exercise.

I guess it really just depends on what he likes to do.

I just received an iPod nano for Christmas. I only got the stuff that came with it, no special accessories. I'd suggest buying him an iTunes gift card so that he can have some new songs to put on his new iPod!

Let me put it this way...the iPod video comes with everything you need for listening to it. Everything else you buy is extra accessories. :)

I recieved an i pod in June.....It came with everything i needed to listen to it..i also suggest a different set of head phones. while the ear buds are ok if you like them they fall out...Also you can get a sound dock for the i pod, they have one made by apple but i have one that isjust like a knock off brand those work fine unless you prefer the apple ones. Other than that it depends on what he wants to do with it, like you can get an armband for running and exercise.

It would probably be helpful to get him an i tunes gift card so that he can put his own music on it and buy what he wants from the i tunes store on the computer.

Definately get him a case. iPods scratch super easily.

Also, you might want to get him some speakers, or an alarm clock radio thing where you can dock the iPod. iHome makes awesome ones.

You guys are the best. I appreciate the help so much, because I am completely electronically challenged! My son will thank you.

hey i just wanted to say when you get it its a good idea to down load itunes and maybe get a itunes card to go with it that wway he can but viedoes and songs :)

Everyone has basically told you everything you need to know, I would higly suggest buying it from Best Buy over Apple thoug, best buy has a better warranty, Apple is VERY difficult to deal with when you ipod has problems, i believe Best Buy just gives you a new one if it breaks etc, and Apple is very difficult about the situation. just a lil tip from experiance between my family and cousins.

You can also buy it Costco/Samsclub if you are a member there.

it comes with everything you need, but you might want to get a case or skin, because it gets pretty smudged, and you might want better headphones or earbuds, depending on what your son likes.
