I don't have a recipe, per se but do make cold salads from potatoes or pasta (when asked to do so... party hosts, family etc.).
We prefer salad nicoise which includes potatoes, green beans, egg, anchovies, tuna, etc. It's not a mayonnaise laden sort of thing.
The pasta salad on the other hand is.

Choose your pasta shape (small shells, rings, elbows, ect. - any small shape seems to work best) and cook enough for the dish. (Usually up to one pound, sometimes more, but sometimes less). We use whole wheat usually.
To the cooked pasta I add boiled potatoes, sometimes drained albacore tuna, herbs and spices that will compliment the choice of ingredients. Celery, grated onion (we don't like to bite into chunks of raw onion in a pasta salad for some odd reason) and a dressing base of mayonnaise, and roughly one to two teaspoons of ketchup and dijon mustard. Add or subtract ingredients as you please. We sometimes add green olives, sometimes replace the tuna with chicken (breast) or shrimp...
A salad like that really is a matter of personal taste and whatever you please! Just make sure whatever you put in compliments the other ingredients and go from there!
