I just found out that 3 friends will be joining us for our trip in January, and one of these women is a TVLand freak. She LOVES the old "family" shows and stuff like that. I'm thinking that 50's Prime Time Cafe might be fun - but none of us have ever been there? How's the food? How's the fun? We will have kids with us too, so I want to make sure that it's kid and adult friendly. Thanks!

DH and I went here in November. The food was good, I had the fried chicken and cannot remember what DH had, but I remember he liked it. Our "cousin" did not get into her role like some of the others. The service was good though, but nothing extra.
We also took the kids here last Jan. Same thing good food, but nothing special from the "cousin". Both times we were there, there is a "cousin", male, medium build and height, dark hair, wears the glasses like they wore in the 50's. He gets into his role. I've seen him make people sit in the corner, and he had 3 girls get up in the middle of the restaurant and sing "I'm a little teapot". It was hysterical.

Great fun, great food. Just came back from WDW 2 wks ago. Love this place. I asked at check in to give us a fun server and she did. He hand feed my SIL her green beens when she left them on the plat. Had us laughing our head off. He was from NJ and my BIL & SIL are from NY so they had alot to talk about.
Enjoy and come back and let us know how you liked it...:)

The theming is great, especially for someone who is into the old 50's TV shows. Your friend will love it there! Some of the servers are more into their roles than others, but I rarely hear of anyone having poor service there. And even if your server isn't one of the really funny ones, it's still fun to watch what's happening at the tables around you. It's definitely a kid-friendly restaurant too. :) If there are younger children who may not get the humor right away, you may want to explain ahead of time that people are going to be getting picked on, but it is just for fun.

We love the Prime Time Cafe. But, it will be closed for our trip 1/8/06-1/15/06. So, before you get your heart set on it, make sure to check and see if it will be open on the dates you're there.

Prime Time can be touch and go. The food is good in a 'Like mom or Swansons' used to make. :) But never had a bad meal there. It really depends on the server. We've had great ones and some that should just be a server at TGI Fridays because they just didn't get into thier role. But all in all it's normally a good time. And picking your deserts from a view finder is a nice touch.

We love the 50' Prime Time. The food is pretty good basic stuff (not gourmet). Things like pot roast, meat loaf, burgers, etc. Check out allears.com for the menu. As for it being fun, it really can be, but you have to get a waiter (or cousin as they call themselves) and really push them a little. In April we (me, DW, DS9, DS7) went with our friend and I did not eat my green beans. I knew the waiter would say something so I put them on my friends plate. When the waiter came back he scolded my friend and then picked up the beans on his fork and forced him to eat them. We roared and told the waiter they were mine. He made me stand up and put my nose against the wall while everyone in the room said "Shame, Shame". It was a lot of fun and my kids still talk about it. Jay

One of our favorites! And we didn't even get a fun waiter either. It's just a fun atmosphere. And I loved the food. I wholeheartedly recommend the fried herb cheese appetizer- better than my meal! The desserts are all fun. I felt like a kid again.

We were just there for the first time in early Dec. and we loved it! Put your elbows on the table and see what they say! The kids usually love seeing their parents get scolded. I thought the fried chicken was excellent and I am pretty hard to please when it comes to fried chicken. But... if you're looking for gourmet, you need to go elsewhere. It was good homemade food but not gourmet. I say Go... it's lots of fun and I thought better than Hollywood's Brown Derby. The Dad's Super Sundae was gigantic and had Cracker Jacks on it which my DH loved. You could probably share this dessert between two or three people.

This is a great place to dine and is a must do for me on every trip. The food is wonderful and so is the service. The portions are of a good size, so you may want to keep that in mind.

We were there two weeks ago. My dd loved it when the waiter made me eat my veggies (they were awful by the way - but the rest of the food was great). I hid them under what was left of my fried chicken. He came over and said "okay where did you hide them?" He also commented that he noticed I went to the bathroom and wanted to know if I took them with me. He finally found them and announced to the room I had a problem eating veggies so he made the airplane noise and shoveled them right in!

It was hilarious and my dd is still talking about it! He made another woman write sentances since she couldn't keep her elbows off the table!

Hilarious place to dine!! :rotfl:
Our "cousin" made all the kids go to the bathroom and wash their hands before he would serve them... a couple of smarties said they already did it, so he asked them what color the wall paper was and when they couldn't answer he sent them back!

I got the "shame, shame" for spilling some gravy on my blouse  and
before the meal was over we had several people standing in the corner :rotfl2:

If you really want some fun, ask to be seated in a section where the "cousin" is more outgoing and get ready... you will have a blast! The food is OK, it's the show that's sensational!

My sis and I ate there on Mon 12/12. I thought the food was great! We were on the dining plan, so we had a ton of food. We should ahve split one credit, but my sis said she wanted her own. She got the fried cheese spread appy, I got onion rings, and we shared both. Both were very good. We both got the fried chicken. I ate 2 of my pieces, she ate one (we took the rest back to the hotel, and that was my breakfast the next morning :) ). The mashed potatoes were very good, the green beans not so much. Fortunately, we were not force fed them. :rotfl2: For dessert, she got a hot fudge sundae, and I got the s'mores. Both were great!!! We ate as much as we could of them, getting the best parts (the hot fudge, and the marshmallows and chocolate on the s'mores). That S'more was waaaaay better than the so-called s'more cake we had at Whispering Canyon Cafe. That thing was nasty! :faint: :crazy2:

I had cousin Ernie and he was in character. I think he wore glasses. I ordered the Dads Potroast and it was huge. For starters i had the onion rings and for dessert a cobller. Even though i was very tired , Ernie perked me up and made me laugh. He saw my arms on the table a mile a way :rotfl:
I would recommend the 50 Ptc !

It depends on when you're going in January, they'll be closed for refurbishment part of Jan!
