I have always intended to retire at WDW. We're still a young family now, but once the kids are out of the house we're heading to WDW. I want to drive a Friendship boat!
Re: aquiring points for retirement-- I wonder if the smart thing to do would be to wait until you're ready to retire and then purchase the points? I mean, presumably point values will start going down at some point based on the lower number of years in the plan. So if you're planning on using more points toward the end of the 42 years anyway, it seems smart to wait until then to purchase them. That way you're avoiding those years of paying dues on the higher points balance.
Well, he must travel pretty light, since he is on the move!
I want to know......Where does he keep all his clothes!!!!?????????? Those closets couldn't hold my wardrobe! I don't have enough space in my own house now!
What is a girl to do?

I'm sure this gentleman has a great time meeting people and doing what he is doing. But to eat out all the time (and that is many $$'s also) and not have a permanent place to go to, I can't imagine that. But then again some people have more money than brains
Several times I have met members who spent all or most of the winter at OKW. Some of them did the old 'move out on Friday and back in on Sunday' to save points. But one gentleman was in a studio from early January until late March. And has anyone heard about the woman who sold her home in NJ after her husband died and moved permanently to the QE 2? She and her husband traveled on the QE 2 often and joked about living on it, so she decided to do just that. Of course she is in an inside stateroom not a suite.
I have always dreamed of a way to retire to OKW. But I don't think I could swing it. And isn't there a clause that you can't use a DVC resort as your legal address? Or is that just to avoid giving us a Florida resident discount?
Or what about living on the Magic? We are on the Magic right now and 2 of our table mates are doing just that in a way. They are working for a company that is insatlling a new waste water treatment system on the Magic and have been here about 8 weeks. They will be done in a bout 2 weeks and then it is off to the Wonder to do the same thing. Hmmm

Actually I don't think it's be that difficult to live for several months in one unit at DVC. As long as the unit isn't due for maint and nothing breaks that can't be fixed with a guest in place, all you'd have to do would be to have an extended reservation. As for how many points it'd cost, that is another matter.
On a related note, my wife and I were just discussing our retirement plans this past Monday. One of our leading plans is to travel for 3-4 weeks at a time and stay at the same resort with 2-4 weeks back home in between. Another option is to buy a condo on HH or similar and then supplement it with other timeshare stays for variety.
I am living vicariously through my parents, who are about to to THE VILLAGES, a gigantic retirement community 57 miles from Mickey. We are all so excited thinking about how our DVC points will stretch when we can spend weekends at their place, or do day trips from their base at high-point holiday times. This plan will have to keep me hanging on for now -- I am 41 -- until I can retire in Florida!
