I may just end up facing one of my fears with the help of a Disney resort, lol!!

I conquered my fear of flying, well basically I had no choice with that one. But now I might just try to face my fear of heights in hotel rooms. At the end of October me and my husband may get the chance to take our very first trip to Disney by ourselves. But if not by ourselves, then my adult daughter might come. My youngest daughter wants to go to the National FFA convention in Illinois (I think that is where it is) with her school from October 28-31, 2020. So I went and booked a package (at rack rate!!) for October 27-31st at the Grand Destino Tower in a Standard view CL room, which is of course like on the 15th floor!!:scared1: Right now I just have me and hubby on the reservation but if by chance my adult daughter wants to come I will add her later. I have us 3-days worth of park hopper tickets on the package.

These CL rooms are eligible for the FP purchases, right? If not, then I will cancel it. The reason I wanted to double check was with just us two on the reservation, rack rate was like right at $460, which includes the taxes. As I went and looked at several other CL rooms for that time period, the lowest rack rates was around $600-$700 plus a night. And when Disney does release discounts for that time period, I know the most that will probably be handed out will be around 20-25% for the other resorts CL rooms. I don't have a AP or such to get the deeper discounts. So I was thinking that even if I pay rack rate for the Standard view CL room at GDTs, it will still be cheaper than a discounted CL room at the BW, Beach or Yacht Club, right?

Anyway, this trip may or may not happen and I may or may not conquer my fear of staying past the 5th-6th floor of a hotel, but we will see, lol.

You don't have to be on a high floor
Just can be
They have CL access rooms on all floors
So ask for low floor. I'd even call in or use TP to add notes about why

Oh really? I had no idea, but girl I do wanna eat, so I would have to make my way to the 15th floor regardless lol. This trip is just so very hypothetical right now, but with me having weight loss surgery soon, maybe the CL food will be enough for me for most of my meals come October.

*I will add that if this all does go down my husband will not relent until I get on the Tower of Terror. But that ain't happening.

I am now thinking I should have just went ahead and put my adult daughter on the reservation just in case she does want to come. How long do I have to make penalty free changes on a Disney package? If I did so it would hedge against any increases in the prices of tickets and the rack rate of the room, right?

30 days
And there are restaurants on the main level. Only 1 is on the top. And 1 lounge
True the CL lounge is up there
Maybe stay noon CL?

I would not get on Tower of Terror! I did that once in 2002, and never again. Not only am I afraid of heights but it actually caused me some physical problems that almost messed up our entire trip.

Is there advantage to booking the package - or can you re-book a room only and then get your tickets separately?

Asking because I won't book a package due to never knowing anyone's true availability until much closer to the trip. I don't like the restrictions and penalties and I use a discounter for tickets (for the non AP members of our family). Another advantage to booking RO vs Package is that if a nice discount comes out you can cancel and rebook if something else works out better/cheaper.

I can't see why this resort wouldn't qualify for the CL FP+ program but you would have to call signature services as this program is "a trial program" and not all CM's have up to date information. We have done this 2x and I don't' think I would do it again now that the evening shows aren't part of the offering.

With CL I like to do the math, will you be at the resort all/most/some of the time that there are offerings in the club lounge? Will you feel forced to change your plans to get your $ worth.... etc. I find that the time of year makes a difference, 6 FP in a day can be a lot - they can take up @ 7 hours of your day so park hours play into my decision on that as well.

Sorry so long - hth!

Well I am pretty sure there won't be any discounts on these rooms, but I could be wrong. I think there is like a $200 difference in these and the Deluxe CL rooms at GDT so Disney probably won't need to discount them much. With a 3-day park hopper I will need to go and shop around a bit. Not sure if I could find any really good savings much anywhere, but I will no doubt be looking. If we were to do all this we would just tour as normal, around four hours of park time in the morning and then around three or four hours at night, but park hopping.

Why no discounts? There's always been some when I've booked. Even Christmas

They do qualify for the CL FP add on.

For these rooms? You think? Now I don't have an AP, I am referring to general public discounts. I went through sooooooo many different dates, time frames and such on Disney World's site and I found such few of these standard view rooms available. Plus, my adult daughter has now said she had rather take a Disney cruise next year verses this, thinking that might be better for her with all her health issues, so we might just do that.

I've never seen them offer AP discounts on rooms with no GP discount, just higher discounts on AP rooms. I guess there's always exceptions but not from what I've ever researched.

I guess I just seen just how scarce the rooms seemed to be and assumed that they might not offer a discount, but you never really know. And with the price being an average of $200 a night less than any other CL rooms, that is what made me think they might not get much of a discount. But, the LM rooms went without discounts before and they certainly do have some now.
