We don't have any Sonic's near us. But every spring we go to OBX which means driving south. I bring a bunch of kids. We pretty much stop at every sonic on the way there and the way back. We spend a long time staring at the drink menu since that is our favorit part. And sometimes I get both a shake and a cherry limeade. I haven't had alot of the food. It's mostly about the drinks. But I love their chilli cheese dogs.
It would be so bad for me if I lived close to one of these places, I guess. So it's good that it's a once a year treat.
What do you order from sonic?

well Virginia is one of those states I figure would have these. I'm thinking anyplace you get sweettea is a place where a sonic would be, since this is another favorite thing I have while traveling.
Wow it's gonna be tough this year since i've made alot of diet changes.

Well, you see, I'm from "NORTHERN" Virginia and, believe me, there is a world of difference in cultures between Northern Virginia and the rest of Virginia. Where I am, we don't have "sweet tea." You have to get as far as Richmond to get that. I think they must have some Sonics in VA, but just not around here.

My MIL lives on the Eastern Shore of Maryland and I think she has one near her.

I'm guessing like the huge difference between south jersey and north jersey. Every once in awhile somebody starts pushing for south jersey to secede and form it's own state.

:teeth: Yep!! There sure is a big culture difference! Compared to NOVA, I'm not sure we have much! :lmao:

Anyway...here in Tidewater VA (you would drive through here on your way to OBX) there are PLENTY of Sonics...sometimes I think they're as bad as the 7-11's! Almost one on every corner! :)

I went to a school in Williamsburg, VA (for those not familiar w/ VA that's in southeastern, VA) and after graduation last year was visiting a friend who had moved to DC (well, Crystal City technically). We woke up one morning and were like.. "oooo we really want Sonic!" So we got online and did a locate to the "closest one we could find". The closest one? WILLIAMSBURG.

It was like a slap in the face.

That's what we enjoy!
Yummie!

:thumbsup2

2 weeks for 2 weeks! :moped: :moped:

Strawberry Limeade yuuuuuuuuuuuummmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Their food is a little too fried for me.

Okay, I live in DC and there are always Sonic commercials on tv here so I assumed there was one nearby. I was wrong. Last Valentine's Day they advertised a chocolate covered cherry milkshake and I really wanted to try it but like someone else said, the nearest ones are near Williamsburg (and some other place on the Eastern Shore). Oh well, one day when we're travelling I guess.

I'm totally addicted to Sonic ice. They used to sell it by the bag, but have stopped doing that, so I have to buy large cups of ice for my home fix. I get a large Diet Coke with extra ice at least once a day, usually twice.

I rarely eat their food - too greasy for me. But I'll occasionally have a hamburger or the popcorn chicken - it's pretty good!!!!

Oh! Why did you have to say the "S" word? We recently moved to Illinois from Texas and it has been a major downer that we can't get Sonic! DH just asked DD where (Fast Food) she wanted to get dinner Friday night and she said..."Sonic or maybe Chic Filet (we don't seem to have those either :sad2: )". In Texas I would drop DD's off at school, pull out of the neighborhood literally INTO the Sonic parking lot and get my Diet Coke with super wonderful Sonic ice to take to work with me. AHHHH...those were the days. Now we're lucky if we get it once or twice a year on visits to Georgia to see family.

On the "sweet tea" note...I still order my tea "unsweetened" here and they always look at me funny! Old habits die hard! ;)

we love Sonic!
while living in Corinth, Tx we got so spoiled, yep, it seemed as if you couldn't go a block w/o seeing one--
Well, that's not the case in the frozen North! :teeth:

where is a nice Sonic near WDW? DH found one--am not sure of where--& he said it was a little scummy looking--is there any near the World any of you prefer to go to?

DS liked the banana shakes, DH loved the Coney chili cheese dog both DH & I would always order cherry limeade. We really like their drinks--there's a big variety & it's greatly appreciated when the temp hovers around 100 or better!

The carhops would be ice skating to the cars here ;)
Well, maybe not htis winter--at least not so far :woohoo:

Boo hoo, they closed the 2 Sonics near me (Clayton and Smithfield NC). Guess I will ahve to wait until I go visit my mama to get my fix. Love the BLT's, onion rings and cherry limeade!

Sonic is awesome! I first went to one when my parents were living in Virginia. The limeade is great!!

There are always commercials for it up here, so I decided to look on the internet and see where the closest one is. Maryland. Quite a trip from NH. :)

Tigger--I feel like I could have written your post myself! I love sonic's chili cheese dogs, slushes, and shakes. (and tots!).

Sadly, I live in Wisconsin, and the nearest sonics is near St. Louis. (When I visited St. Louis a year ago for a weekend, I went to the Sonics every day!) I make sure to go there a few times when I visit Disney too. The worst part, however, is that they advertise for sonics on tv ALL THE TIME here...and it's always so tempting. I don't know why they can't limit their commercials to the states that have Sonics...

What is Sonic ice? We always see the commercials here also, but there is not one in our state or have I ever seen one while traveling.

Aaaahhhh, Sonic ice. Let me try to describe it, although mere words can't do it justice.

Picture yourself as a life-long ice cruncher. You don't know why, but whenever you have an iced beverage, YOU MUST CRUNCH. Picture your dental bills as, one after the other, all four of your back teeth, and two others as well, break and have to be crowned because you've chewed large chunks of ice with them. Now, you meander past a Sonic one day. Maybe you've seen their commercial, maybe you're intrigued by the architecture, maybe you just want to see if someone's going to fall on their behind while trying to roller skate your order out the door.

So you order a drink. And here it comes - a delicious frosty taste of heaven, with loads of small, crunchable pellets. Picture flake ice like they would use to keep the seafood cool at your grocery store, pressed into little pencil-eraser size pellets. Easy to chew, easy to suck on, not too big to tuck a few between cheek and gum if you've got a little tobacco fantasy going.

It's divine stuff, that Sonic ice. I'm crunching some right now, and I'll probably swing by on my way back home from taking DD to gymnastics.

As I said before, I'm totally addicted to Sonic ice. Tag fairy, feel free to note that if you so desire.

Sonic ice is one of the wonders of the modern world. Someone should write a sonnet about it....
