So, a couple of months ago I vowed I was going to stick to a budget. Peapod has really helped me out! I order from my computer and it gets delivered to my house. I save so much of my time nevermind the money from not impulse shopping.

We have been having awful weather here. I placed an order a few days ago to get delivered last night (in the snow). Monday night I remembered I forget something and added to my order at 9pm at night!

Anyway, they came right on time during the snow and carried my groceries right into my kitchen. :cloud9:

The best part was the price. They were having such an awesome sale. I only spent $105 and this is some of what I got:

4 lbs of beef stew meat (will use 1/2 for stew and 1/2 for stroganoff or something else)
(2) 4 lb. packages of skinless chicken breasts (14 pieces)
3 lb. Beef Round Roast
3 lb. Eye Roast
5 lb. Chicken thighs (12 pieces)
3 Ham steaks

Lettuce, tomatoes, spinach, potatoes, strawberries, yogurt, 2 boxes of Raisin Bran, Orange juice, bread, sausages and a couple of other things.

I then used my handheld foodsaver (found on the Budget Board) to break the meat up and freeze them in smaller packages.

My DH was amazed and I was so excited an new some of my friends on the Budget Board would share my excitement. That is meat for so many meals (family of 4) and I already have a ton of pork in my freezer from their last sale along with veggies.

Just wanted to share, if you are in the Northeast and haven't tried them yet give them a whirl. PM me if you want and I can send you a link for $10 off your first order.

I believe Peapod also offers this service through sister chain Giant-Landover for those in Washington, D.C. and surrounding areas in VA/MD.

I used them once last year - and recently got a mail offer for $15 off first order and free delivery for orders after that, for a month. Definitely placing another order soon. There are two really good Stop & Shops within a few miles of my house.

I also just got a Fresh Direct offer...have to use them too (it's been years!) :thumbsup2

Ohhh...great offers! I got two free deliveries and was happy with that! When you order from Peapod it comes from the warehouse, not the stores so the food seems a lot fresher to me - cuts out that middle step. Plus, it is all bagged properly and I LOVE that.

Good luck. Have never heard of Fresh Direct.

Do you find the produce to be of okay quality?

The few times I ordered from them (after my son was born) I could tell that they just took the produce that was on the top and put it in a bag rather than actually being picky like I would be at the store.

Yes, I have found it to be of great quality actually. Because it comes from he warehouse it doesn't get trucked to the store and then sit in the store before I pick it out. On the rare occasion I have been unhappy, I just email them and they gladly refund my money.

We got a coupon for $25 off our first order that we used the week I had gallbladder surgery. We were so impressed that we have used them twice since.

Some things are more expensive, but they do have great sales, and they take manufacturer's coupons. The delivery fee is free for the first 60 days after you first order, and after that it's pretty nominal. Way worth the delivery fee for me not to have to go to the store on a Saturday after working all week, and dragging 4 kids with me and using gas to the store and back.

I also love that I can see the total after everything I put in the my cart. Helps me stick to my budget. Their fruit and veggies have been better than the picked over stuff I find at my grocery store.

I wish we had something like that here. I'm like a PP and either have to drag all the kids with me or ask my mother to keep them so I can go alone (unless DH happens to be home, then he keeps them.) I love to shop but not really for groceries (as one friend put it "What a waste, that money could buy clothes or something else that I'd have forever. Instead I buy food with it and the money literally turns to sh*t." LOL) I think just adding to a list all week and then submitting the order would be so much easier!

I love Peapod! It's so easy to shop off your previous orders and the sales circulars. There's even an iPhone app that lets you scan in bar codes for items you want to add to your cart! I have a hard time scheduling b/c weekend deliveries are better for my schedule but I have to reserve a time slot in the middle of the week & I don't always think that far in advance.

The Waldbaums near me also has delivery service but they don't have all the items I like but I can usually get same day delivery which I love!

Fresh Direct is a similar service but I believe it's limited to a small area of NYC. I haven't shopped there in a while because I thought they are a little more expensive then both Peapod & Waldbaums plus they didn't have a lot of my preferred brands.

Our peapod comes from the store, and the store near me is not so great. The produce is awful and the meat always looks funky. I only shop there under dire needs and only prepackaged stuff. I have seen them completing peapod orders recently.

How does it work with using coupons - do they just collect them from you when they deliver? Do they double them like they will in the store? One of the things I don't like about buying groceries at Target is that they won't double the coupon savings.

Yes, Fresh Direct can be pricey but they have specials and with a discount it's totally worth it! (For some things). :)

Rachel, I just read on the website that you put the coupons in an envelope with your name & order # on it and they will credit your account

has anyone bought ground beef from Peapod? I'm going to use them for the first time.
Yes, I buy everything I would at my normal Stop & Shop. Never had a problem.

Maybe it depends on where you live?? I live in MA and ours comes from the warehouse. I have had several conversations with the drivers.

As far as coupons, I put them in an envelope with my name and order number. I then give it to the driver. I have my total taken automatically out of my checking account (saves $1 that way) and they do not debit my account until the driver gets back and lets them know if there are coupons are not. Not sure about the whole doubling. I think they do exactly what they do in the store though as I still earn my gas points. For example, if my order is $100 and I have $5 in coupons the driver gets back with my signed acknowledgement and coupons then $95 is deducted from my checking account.

Yes, this exactly, and ITA with your friend! :lmao: I would use a service like this in a heartbeat if my grocery store offered it. The only one I have to watch the kids is DH, and if he doesn't go, he doesn't get what he wants and vice versa... or we take both kids. That's as fun as a migraine.

I sooooo wish they would add Pennsylvania to their area...we have plenty of Giant Food Stores here just like in the other midatlantic states!

I've used them several times over the past couple of months, my first order was at x-mas time. Produce has been fine, meat has been fine, no complaints at all, I live very close to the stop and shop so I tend to be the last delivery, which last week was 10:15 p.m.

I do think the service is better with my local Roche Bros. delivery.

I have to admit I do spend less money, I sit at the computer with my recipes in hand and order exactly what I need and have my menu planned out for the week and I'm done.

It's very convenient, but I'm not sure I will continue to do it when I have to pay for delivery, I know $7 isn't alot, but it's just the point.

I used to think the same thing as far as the delivery until my DH reminded me, "What is your time worth?" In addition, with gasoline over $3.00 a gallon the $7.00 really isn't bad.

I just placed my first order! yay! having it delivered on Sat. I'm also looking for some coupons and so far found some to save me $3.50! woohoo!!
