She noticed he was having trouble seeing the board and let me know. I made an appointment with a pediatric opthamologist and sure enough he's really near sighted. I think the Dr said he was 20/150:scared1: We picked out cute frames and he'll get them next week. He told me that he is going to save up for Lasik surgery:lmao:

Awwww, I bet he'll look so cute. :) It's nice to see parents who appreciate teachers. Thank you!

That's awesome that your DS's teacher made that observation! Teachers have so much on their plate these days, that they might not always catch things like this from their students.
I'm sure she'll feel good about it that she was able to help out!

What a hoot. DS15 first needed glasses in 1st grade and wasn't all that trilled with the idea until we found some "Harry Potter" glasses. They even had small glow in the dark "snitches" on the bows.

A tip, if your son is active at all on the playground or in sports, get some frames that don't need to be adjusted all the time (I think they are titanium--bendable metal basically). We were in the eye dr at least once/week getting DS's glasses fixed from basketball, football on the playground, whatever.

How cute! :thumbsup2

It was my sons third grade teacher who first clued us in that he needed glasses.
He's 15 now....and if it makes you feel any better his vision is 20/450 ! But he's been wearing contacts for years now, and you would never know that theres anything wrong with his vision just from looking at him.

I needed glasses in the 4th grade. Mine was 20/400. I remember when I got those glasses - I didn't know you could see blades of grass or leaves on a tree.

I recommend the Lasix though. I had it done at 60 - so I spent about 50 years blind as a bat if I couldn't wear my glasses or contacts. I remember water skiing - I couldn't see the boat! Swimming classes were a nightmare. I had the old hard (even pre gas perm) contacts and they could not be worn in the water. Sometimes they would pop out if it was windy!

I spent WAY more than the cost of Lasix on glasses and contacts over those 50 years. I remember saving up from my job where I made $1 an hour to buy my $150 contacts.

OMG, this was me! I was about 8 I think and never realized that tress had individual leaves! Now, not only do I have lenses to correct 20/400 distance vision, I have progressives so I can read! :headache:

I have always been leery about lasik since my correction is so big, do you have to wear glasses at all? Have night vision issues? I would so love to not be essentially blind without my glasses (can't wear contacts) but I don't want to go through the procedure and still have to wear glasses!

I just looked up DS15's vision. His optical prescription is for -6.5 and I didn't know that covered to 20/500 :scared1::scared1::scared1:

He has ALWAYS worn his glasses. Our eye dr said that kids that really need them wear them. He also has contacts. He got them when he was 10 and it was the BEST thing we did. He now wears daily disposables because of his allergies and they are great.

We will probably help him pay for Lasik, if he qualifies, when he is old enough. His eyes are worse then the rest of the family combined :lmao:.
