I love credit cards so much!

I know that flights can start booking early, and we'll need 4 RT tickets. I currently have the CSR and CIP, so I'm looking at 1.25x UR redemption for those.

Thoughts?

Transfer them all to the CSR for 1.5x

My wife has the CIP and CSR, she transferred the CIP to her CSR and then later on consolidated them with my CSR points. We do this for all of our Chase Cards including the 7,500 each we both got using our Freedom at Sam's for Disney GCs to pay for our Disney Cruise this summer. Turned 1x to 1.5x easily.

We got the flight we wantes Europe via United but their return flights aren't appealing, so we are comboing Singapore(22
5k)FRA to JFK and then Southwest LGA/MEM(7.5k) a couple of days later. About the same points as a United saver award for a single flight. United wanted 30k for the same flight, not including the NYC/MEM flight.

Did anyone else see the cashback deal on RMN for staples? Can we pair this with our AMEX offer?

So I'm loving Citi today again for price protection. DS's xbox broke in early November and I wanted to replace it before Black Friday so I bought one with my Citicard for $300. I ended up getting two price adjustments for a total of $100 (plus I got a $45 newegg gift card). As long as Citi keeps price protection, I won't be without a citi card.

Okay these bank bonuses.....switching my DD from work is a PITA. So I don't want to do that. I do have $20k sitting in savings I could play around with to meet these minimum balance reqs. But I'm confused as to the work arounds on the DD. I see some people saying they are doing it with credit cards. How?

I'd love to get in on this "free" money since every little bit helps as a single mom. But I don't wanna have to keep changing up how I'm depositing my paycheck to do it.

Also when an account requires XXX of debit card transactions, are you guys doing anything special for that? Obv we want to put every dollar we can on our CC's to meet MSR or points/etc. So are you just doing stuff like a pack of gum? Or are you "scamming" some other way (like PP, etc). Oh and I did read the DOC list on ways that DD's have worked but it has my head spinning as some say things like PP work, and others say it doesn't. I'd rather hear from people what has worked.

I've only done four recently, and do not have regular DD, so to give you some DP's:

PNC: I pushed $5,000 from Paypal and it counted as a DD. For the debit transactions I did .50 amazon reloads. You could do a pack of gum also.

Fidelity: did not require DD.

Citizens: pushed $1000 from Fidelity that posted as DD.

Cambridge Savings Bank: did not require DD.

Best resource is doc of credit, lots of different bank bonuses. Many don't require a DD. Many you can use another method to achieve DD, but best information is from DOC because there are so many more users that participate so hopefully you have the best information. I would recommend looking at DOC's best bank bonuses and starting with a non-DD one-I'm in the process of completing a citibank bonus and that did not require a DD. DOC does a great job of going through all the information and ways to meet the requirements because each bank bonus is different. There is a guide on dischurners as well that was helpful to get you started, I used it when I first started looking at bank bonuses.

ETA: only certain bank bonuses allow credit card funding the most popular one being PNC, which was recently being discussed. DOC also lists which credit cards have worked for people.

Thanks I just went and looked at more of the account offerings. Sucks that I am a Chase customer and not looking to bail since they seem to have the best offers out there. If I'm reading it right I would have to leave chase for 2 years and come back to qualify. And I don't think I could even do that since I'm on my mom's bank accounts. And with her having stage 4 cancer, not really looking to mess around with her money right now (she's been with Chase (or banks that Chase bought out) my entire life).

Guess I'll go looking at the lesser offers.

Awesome! I have a newish Citi card. Do you need to register your purchases to get the price protection?

I have been reading Cruise Critic too. ( I just get more confused). So, Vancouver is probably place to start and then either come back to Vancouver or fly out of Alaska somewhere... I had read on Cruise Critic about Glacier Bay and most people recommend a cruise that goes through there. Boy the balconies are sure expensive on Alaskan Cruise - I can do a Caribbean for the 4 of us on a balcony for less than 2 for a balcony on an Alaskan Cruise. Not sure if the kids will go yet or not. We will be going with another couple - will depend on if their kids go. (Ours would be 21 and 19 at the time and love to travel too).

Are there any other stops you recommend? That is where I am getting more confused. So, many options and I know next to nothing about them.

I LOVED having a balcony on the cruise! Dh and I spent so much time out there---and also a lot of time out on a "secret" forward deck on the Coral Princess. That was our first (and so far, only) cruise. We used Costco Travel and ended up with a ton of OBC :)

I knew that I wanted Glacier Bay, which limited my cruise line choices to Princess and Holland America. I compared the northerly one-way itineraries and available ships. Basically the only itinerary choices were the ending port and the choice of Skagway or Haines. Dh wanted Skagway because he had always wanted to ride the train into Canada. I decided that going into Whittier (Princess port for Anchorage) would be more interesting than into Seward (Holland America's port for Anchorage) because of the glaciers in Prince William Sound. So that's how we chose our ports

Maybe a silly question... but how did you push from paypal? Is it from having a paypal balance?
I actually transferred in $5,000 from my regular bank (Webster). I do not ever have that much in my Paypal account normally.

ETA: My Webster account was already linked and verified so it was pretty quick and easy.

Awesome! I have a newish Citi card. Do you need to register your purchases to get the price protection?
I did register this one but I found both lower prices on my own. Also got price reduced on a cashmere wrap from Garnet Hill this fall by seeing a lower price in an email they sent me. So far I've had good luck but I personally wouldn't count on them finding the lower price.

Still catching up over 1000 more to go.

Thanks to whoever posted about airhint. Never heard of it but if it notifies me of swa drops that will be awesome. I used to check every day but this year it’s just been when I can remember at least once a month.

@Judique hope your family is all out of the hospital now and recovering. I’ll eventually get caught back up here.

Question who do you contact to get the missing points from marriotts 29 days promotion? I’m still missing points. Thanks

Ok DISchurner friends...I want to ask an off topic touring plan question :) Since you are all the DISers I trust most...

You know I booked a contemporary resort Magic Kingdom View room - girls were super excited to hear of this for Christmas! Now I have to adjust our plans slightly...We are in this room on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday night and I want to watch the fireworks from my balcony one night. Being back in the room by 8pm any night was not in my original plan. Let me give you the rundown and I'd love some feedback!!
  • Wednesday - we are going to Magic Kingdom; Hours are 9am-8pm with EMH from 8pm-10pm. HEA is at 8pm
  • Thursday - we are going to Animal Kingdom; Hours are 9am-8pm (no EMH)
  • Friday - we are going to Magic Kingdom; Hours are 9am-9pm (no EMH). HEA is at 8pm
We want to watch HEA in the MK one night so that has to happen either Wed or Fri (we do not have a park hopper). We are going to Magic Kingdom for 6+ hours on Saturday so Friday is NOT our last park day in case that would affect your recommendation. We did see RoL last year so this wouldn't be our "first chance" at that show. We have no dining reservations or other plans that would affect these options below.
  • OPTION 1 -- Wed: HEA from the room (skip EMH); Thur: RoL; Fri: HEA from the park

  • OPTION 2 -- Wed: HEA from the park (then remaining EMH); Thur: RoL; Fri: HEA from the room

  • OPTION 3 -- Wed: No HEA, take full advantage of EMH; Thur: HEA from the room (skip RoL), Fri: HEA from the park

  • OPTION 4 -- Wed: HEA from the park (then remaining EMH); Thur: HEA from the room (skip RoL), Fri: ride until 9pm
Each option has a lot of merit IMO. I keep going back and forth between various options. I believe these are the only 4 options I can draw up...so DISchurner friends...what would you do and why??? :) :D THANKS!!!

Oh and I did read the DOC list on ways that DD's have worked but it has my head spinning as some say things like PP work, and others say it doesn't. I'd rather hear from people what has worked.

For bank bonuses there are two separate components that get a lot of attention, the first is the direct deposit requirements but the second is in bank account funding with a credit card. In 99.99% of cases these are completely separate topics. Fortunately/unfortunately there's a little confusion popping up because PNC has for some months been counting your credit card funding as part of your DD requirements. So "Yea!" less money needed to DD, but "boo" very confusing when it doesn't work and nearly any other bank. I'd try to just keep them as separate concepts so as to not get confused later (at least that's what I'm doing :))

Other than being able to use your credit card to fund some bank accounts at opening, CCs and Bank Bonuses are pretty separate. However, when you can find a bank that lets you fund an account with your CC and it codes as a purchase, it's a win-win as you'll earn free points/free MSR spend on top of the bank bonus. If it works out right it's fee-free manufactured spending :) But it's very important to make sure it's not going to code as a Cash Advance as not only will you not earn CC points for it, or count towards your MSR, you'll pay additional fees to the CC company which eats into the bonus. This is also where everyone putting DP's on DoC comes in handy so it's a pretty comprehensive resource for all aspects of bank bonus chasing.

As for the DD's, mostly it's trial and error to see what makes it past the automated systems and triggers the bonus for each particular bank. Again, where DoC comments and posts are very helpful since each bank is going to be different - what works for PNC doesn't necessarily work for Citizens, etc etc. Out of the gate though you could look for accounts that don't require DD's to get a feel for the amount of time and effort you want to put into it. Discover savings is a quick hit, doesn't require you to hold the money in the account for any length of time and posts the bonus super quick once you meet the deposit requirement. Since this is a savings account, no DD required, just deposit the amount for the bonus you want. 15k will get you $150, but 25k will get $200. They are also nice in that cumulative deposits works - so even though you only have 20k to play with, you can deposit the 20k and get the $150 bonus, withdrawal some (5-10k say) and then redeposit it for the last $50. Just have to time it well so it makes by the deadline. (https://www.doctorofcredit.com/discover-savings-150200-bonus-1500020000-deposit-new-exp-103117/) I had a local credit union checking account over the summer that only required debit card transactions for their bonus. I've seen less of those but they exist, can look at stuff like that while researching. Also while researching, look into hub accounts and see if there are any with current bonuses to work on. We've had CapOne360 for years and it's not been very useful until lately when it codes as DD for several bank accounts I've completed this year :)

Speaking of the debit transactions, for most banks just doing a small Amazon reload works. Or buying a single banana at the grocery store. Or pump a dollar of gas at self-serve stations (personally I have no time for that, but it's one of the things I've seen recommended) Or anything small that your CC rewards aren't going to matter much. Just check to see if there is any minimums to the transactions. The ones I've done so far haven't had any so I put as little as 42 cents on one to meet the requirements. If you look at it as earning $300 for $10 (or even $20) in spend, that's puts losing out on the CC rewards for those purchases in perspective; at least that helped me.

I think I would go with option 3. ROL is a waste in my opinion LOL, and this option would maximize your ride times.

Did your family enjoy ROL last year ?....if so I’d see it again since you have 3 other days planned for MK.

It’s too early to know now...but once it gets closer I’d also see what the weather is going to be thoses nights...if it’s cooler one night you may want to watch HEA from your room instead of the park

If weather isn’t a factor I’d do option 2.. after watching HEA in your room ..you can do some packing etc

I would vote Option 3. I like to do rides during HEA and I think that would be better to do on an EMH night. I never seem to make RoL a priority, though, so I might be biased against it. My second choice would be Option 4.
