Just got word that she is being temporarily released until her surgery next week after the holiday. And for son in law they are saying 6 months. That's why I was bemoaning the numbers...

Of course a lot depends on him and how gung ho he will be with rehab and therapy - the patient has to be willing to work at it (not saying he won't) and as you know it's not easy to power through pain. Daughter is a 'lets get this done and over with' personality.
I did 6 months of physical therapy 3x per week after knee fracture. I was very motivated and had a second surgery in there also (plus a third later). It is tough, plus I didn’t drive for about 4 months. I have to say for me the pain was worst the first 3 days after surgery, it was more manageable after that. I was back at work after 6 weeks but had someone drive me and pick up, and to therapy. Took pain med after work on the way to therapy, on therapy days. They may need live in help with 2 little kids. Plus the trip home will be a challenge.

I think it is 75k if we cancel. 45k was for old cat 1-5, 30 for each cat above 4.

ETA: I can't imagine staying offsite for 7 nights and going back and forth to the parks. I'd only entertain offsite for a short stay...2-3 nights.

I don't see it as much different than staying onsite and traveling to the parks. We prefer to drive anyway, will be staying on points at Springhill Suites Flamingo Crossing in Feb, which is very convenient to the parks. Sheraton Vistana Resort was also very close. Now when we stayed at Universal over Thanksgiving and drove to Disney a few days, that was not convenient! But we could walk to the Universal ones!

Daughter has already asked me if I will drive her to work and pick her up. And daycare - baby has a fracture and has to wear the thing I can't think of the name of now - collar? At least they got her a smaller one than the initial one she had. I can't imagine her going to daycare, so daycare will have to be 'in home' probably.

The hospital has been good so far. They replaced the 2 car seats for the babies to ride to their grandfathers house in. The ambulance crew had carried them to the ambulance from the car in their car seats, and transported them to the hospital in them. Things you don't even think about until it happens - who would think 'don't move the babies out of their seats' but that would be the correct procedure to prevent further injury until a professional arrived.

But, the trip home to Maryland will definitely be delayed. And help in the home will be a necessity until both parents are able to function normally.

Wow, I never thought about that before. I guess because I don't have kids, but that's something I'm glad you posted in case someone here ever runs into that scenario.

I'm glad they're all doing ok and managing. Still so scary!

It's wonderful that they live close to you, and that they have family where they are now. I know it will be tough with 2 toddlers, but hopefully that will give them extra incentive to get through rehab. Hugs to all of you.

I’m beyond excited LAX is getting Qatar Qsuites starting in Feb but FYI it looks like it’s a bit more of a “kinda” getting Qsuites situation for the month of Feb. I don’t think anyone has this coming up in the next couple months but if you do keep an eye on your seat map! https://onemileatatime.com/qatar-airways-qsuites-lax/

I’m flying that route this Spring & indeed the flight now has a Qsuite configuration!! I was able to select my seat online since I’m solo the seat I wanted was available without needing to call.

Happy almost New Year Everyone!! We are back from our 1 week in San Diego. Flights, hotel and rental car were paid with points.

We are ready to spend next Christmas in a tropical paradise, thinking Hawaii or Costa Rica, I think both are equally expensive. The girls love the beach, but DH and I love to hike which is why we are thinking Hawaii or Costa Rica. Any other suggestions for something less expensive? We don’t have much in points at the time. We will need to travel during Christmas week, I know tickets will be super expensive if we don’t book as soon as they open.
Which location would be the best option (family of 4) with the following points:
120,000 MR
120,000 AA
25,000 Marriott + 2 1-night certificates (4 if we keep all 4 cards)
80K United miles
Will have 120,000 RR + CP

People don’t tend to think of EMTs as highly trained but they are. They need to know who to move, and how. When I broke my knee, it was because I fell. No hitting head or anything, straight down on my knee. Yet they put me on a back board to transport me in the ambulance (I was with DH but I immediately knew I couldn’t get up or be easily transported. Even riding in the car after surgery was a challenge). Transporting kids in car seats is like immobilizing adults on a board, plus the kids are already comfortable in the seats they know. Good thing they followed protocol since the little had a spinal fracture (and the thingie is a cervical collar)

Maybe by Christmas 2019...SW will be flying to Hawaii and you could use your CP and points to fly there

Not sure where you are flying from, but be sure to check out AA economy web specials. They do have flights to Hawaii from the west coast. I think there’s about 17 routes including Mexico, Europe and the Caribbean. I’ve seen Mexico 5,000 and Europe for 9,000!

End of year/Going into Q1 What's In Your Wallet? poll:

Always interested to see what cards people are using regularly.

My regularly used cards these days include the pink gold Amex, Arrival+, Target Red Debit and now Amazon biz in my Amazon account only.

I do carry my Amex plat to be fancy, plus my Chase debit and my HSA card but I need to put that one away. I'm streamlining and getting more simple in my old age.

CIC Not actually in my wallet but set up for my autopayments for the phone and internet.

CF For 5x categories only

IHG For gas groceries and restaurants

CFU For anything else....

Goal for 2019 is a Sapphire. Unless I grab a business card first. But wanting to stick with Chase for now...

It looks like you might go with other options anyway, but I would be careful going the virtual route. From reading a few things I think the virtual ones can be tricky to use...
Yeah, I was reading the terms and there seemed to be a lot of them. I ended up ordering from Sams and paying the $6.48 fee with my AMEX, and the $200 with the Mastercard gift card. Now to see if I get it and it's all correct!
