I see it mainly has all of the stations we watch, although I have been binging on Hallmark lately. I guess for our TVs without Internet, we would need some type of additional device? DH has been complaining about the $160 a month DirectTV for 2 HD boxes 4 non HD boxes. Heck, we don’t even have DVR. Off to do some research.
$160 with no dvr?! Dang. I recently helped my parents install a new tv in their place and they’re at $155 with the dvr-genie set-up for multiple TVs (albeit they are into Hallmark but not sports or Starz like channels). It might be time to give DirectTv a call about what deals they can offer, can’t hurt to inquire. And if you don’t like the offer try again in a couple months once all the Xmas TVs have been set up and the companies are thirsty for new customers?

I don’t know about more recent purchases, but I could double my money on my BWV. But I bought 16 years ago.
Who needs the stock market?! There is some intriguing math! So, do you expect to save that much by keeping it and using it over the years or are you considering a sale?

Not @elgerber but for me, I bought it to use it. I bought my BWV points at 56.75 a point, and yes, liquidation now would be optimal - if it were an investment. That's the real difference - a timeshare is not an investment. It is a luxury purchase meant to be used. And eventually it will be worth zilch.

I have a little Florida trip fast approaching that I was going to cancel when the accident happened. I haven't canceled yet, and after looking at availability to rebook my points this evening, I'm thinking of first tossing the reservation on the rent/trade board. It's only 3 nights at BWV in a studio Jan 11-14, Fri to Mon, so not too big a deal. The flip side is maybe I'll still go as I doubt anyone is coming home before mid January. Decisions, decisions! I have 11 nights booked going to and from Florida included, but not all DVC.

Have any of you DVC owners been following the stuff about the 2020 point reallocation? I have and it is seriously depressing me to the extent that I am not even as excited to take our first DVC trip in a couple weeks. What do you guys think . . . are they overreacting? I keep reading it all (there are pretty much three huge threads going on right now) and basically it is making me regret buying both the direct and resale contract this year. It would be beyond dumb to sell before I even really use it but I am actually tempted the more I read.
I am actively following them all waiting for that waitlist to come through... I feel like the boards represent a small portion of Disney/DVC and a majority will not really notice or are just so happy to be "part of the club" that they will accept it and keep buying and booking. Look at how many purchase and finance directly through Disney? IDK if they are really doing it just for the savings. Disney definitely has some reason for the adjustment (SWGE, Riviera sales, etc) and I am sure it will change again down the line. I would not let it sour your upcoming trip or regret your purchases! Try it out and see how it fits. 1 bedroom+ accommodations would be very difficult without DVC. If you are dissatisfied, then there is always the option sell. I am sure these changes will only drive up the price per point and your BLT and OKW contracts would be very popular.

If they won't be able to travel back from CO before you'd be back it might be nice/good for you to get a bit of a vacation in before you start helping them with a bunch of stuff when they get back.

When are they expected to travel back? I agree with @afan. If you could get a small vacation in before you are needed to help them, I say keep your reservation and take the short trip.

I just went to the dvc presentation a week ago on the cruise and shockingly (yeah right) there was no mention of this. I just went for the $50obc but I recall him saying the major selling point is the costs of your trips never rise, while those paying cash do. All I could think about was how I would never pay the prices he was quoting as the cash price for rooms anyways so he didn’t reel me in one bit.

They LOVE to reference rack rate when mentioning the break-even point

This was me when I was trying to justify the numbers. We are fortunate to have the mil rate available so I tried and tried to figure out how it would be beneficial for us and couldn’t. Now that we no longer go I think I made the correct decision (one of the few LOL) for our family and vacations.

Happily everyone can travel the way it best suits them:)

There is no time set yet, but daughter says she expects to be there another month. Right now my heart is not into traveling but in a week or so I may feel differently.

Yes. And I have to make a decision.

I’ve read the stuff...and get that people in the group who’s vacations are going to cost more points are unhappy but think they are overreacting...talking about a lawsuit ....the point charts were reallocated over 2 years around 2010....to balance the points needed to book weekend and weekday nights....people went crazy then too....it’s all in how you use your points for some the amounted need go up for others they go down.....before that reallocation we went Sunday-Friday...now we book weekend nights too...so the reallocation achieved its goal with us

it looks like now they are increasing points needed for the fall months, and smaller units and decreasing the amount needed for the summer, spring break and larger units
DVC is allowed to reallocated....for some to think it’s only with a specific unit that’s listed on your deed to me seems silly....and I’d be very unhappy if they start a lawsuit and our dues go up because of it

What are you shooting with? And how are you getting such good internet connection?

A point n shoot and my iPhone X. The point n shoot is a Sony DSC HX 400 V, the other point n shoot is a Sony DSC HX 90V. I don’t know how to use a real camera so I got a camera for people that don’t know how to use one but want nice pictures. This seems to work.

The ship has satellite and offers Wi-Fi for a price. DH got the Wi-Fi package because he has clients he can service remotely. He said running speed test is 2 MB download and 11 MB upload. I have no idea what that means. It’s $50 for 120 minutes or $200 for the length of the cruise. It works out to about $20 per day. It’s gone down a couple of times we’ve noticed due to weather but remarkably more reliable than I expected.

@calypso726 beautiful pictures, thanks for sharing! What is the current temp?

We’ve been going to different areas each day and it has ranged in the 20’s to the 30’s.

Thank you to you and everyone else for the compliments on the pictures!

I always laugh at that, and honestly have no idea how they can legally say that - how are dues NOT part of your trip cost? Ignoring everything else that's wrong with their math, dues seem to increase every year, so how exactly is my trip cost staying the same?
I looked into it years ago when we ended up going annually and have done the phone presentations for the GC, but for us it made no sense given our style of travel. And to the one guy's credit, he did agree that it wasn't for us - could have pushed me with a feather when he said that - but otherwise they all used crazy car salesman numbers to make it sound like we'd be getting one over on Disney (or IHG/Wyndham/whoever) if we bought now and went for the next 50 years since your pricing is "locked in". Um, I don't think that's how that works.

I haven't decided if I should keep the Amex BGR card. I was able to take advantage of the 10% from Staple and Lowe's but that's about all that I've been able to use. Thoughts as to why I should pay the $195 fee?

I read the first few pages right after the announcement (and a few glances at the threads since), but decided not to keep reading constantly. I felt similarly when I first read the charts, but I realized that we are still going to get to visit our favorite resorts for a reasonable cost. I will probably be more upset if they follow this with another change next year along the same lines. Our biggest loss will be at CCV since we only have the points for a specific number of nights on the old chart and now can't cover the same number of nights. It is a bummer for sure. Not sure if people are overreacting, but I am trying not to read too much as I don't think anyone knows what will happen next year. Hope you can find a way to feel some excitement before your trip!
I don't own but I have sat through a presentation and the big selling point is that "you'll never need more points." I would be very upset at the reallocation if that was no longer true.
