I love credit cards so much!

If I want to close a BofA card, should I wait until the fee posts and then cancel? I've always cancelled them just before the year was up, but I'm wondering if I should be waiting the full year.

Finally got DH to listen to me about the business cards, so now I have a newbie question on them. Which one gives the most bang for our buck - it's not likely that he will want 2. CIP? Something else from Chase? Amex? Too many choices and now I'm a bit confused.

While I usually say answers can vary...

CIP seems to be the consensus best business card offer when you’re looking strictly at signup bonus value vs. MSR.

If you felt that CIC or CIU were a better card long term you could downgrade to them in the future (if you’re set on getting only 1...I think you should reconsider that ;))

I posted a new thread on the resorts board if anyone is interested. I'm looking for ideas on a resort for the Unique Offer Code that we just received in the mail.

Thanks. I told him and he's looking into it.

ETA - also, since he did the double dip in early July, how long should he wait?

I want points that transfer to hotels. He feels like the MRs are a better value than the URs in general, not for hotels, so this is going to take some time to figure out.

I’m only familiar with Chase so..for them I’d recommend the CIP for the 80,000UR bonus...it does have the $95 fee...so if you don’t want that the CIC or CIU have the 50,000 bonus with no annual fee

Edited to add its 3 months from the DD so he is probably fine

Have anyone used MR to book Disney vacations?

I knew Citi points were possible to book Disney trip but I didn't realize Amex did it too. Has anyone done it before?

How does this work? I don’t think we’ve ever discussed this possibility here before.

EDIT: are you sure it’s a good value? AMEX has some pretty crumby ways to use MRs at < 1cpp.

I’ve never looked into using MRs to book Disney, but you can use MRs to book vacation packages, etc., but it is a terrible value — something like 0.7 cpp.

How does he plan to use those MRs? What does he find valuable about them?

I'd suggest you guys do some research - perhaps he has some very specific use of a 1st class seat using some transfer partner. Otherwise, I'm not sure where he's headed with that.

If your thought is to transfer to hotel points...personally I also don't think that is a good use of URs (unless you're looking at Hyatt). If that's the goal then If you want Marriott points, get a Marriott or SPG business card. If you want Hilton points get a Hilton business card.

Of course, I also want to keep in mind that it seems like you are limiting yourself to 1 business card forever. If that's the case, it's really hard to give advice. I think you should re-think that position because there are numerous good business cards out there that could help you achieve your travel goals.

All that said...I still challenge you to find a better sign-up value for the MSR than CIP, 85,000 URs for $5,000 is a nice haul, LOL!

I've been seeing some recent DPs on Reddit that BoA is refusing to waive the AF even if you call to cancel right when it posts. If you're not planning to keep it, I'd probably cancel before it posts.

Just got caught up after some business travel the past few days. I came home to a bunch of bills (totaling about $12,500) that I have to pay for my mom. None have a CC option. Plastiq doesn't seem to make sense to use anymore. Should I actually be using checks???

Plastiq still makes sense if you’re hitting MSRs. With $12.5k in bills, that’s quite a few new cards.

I agree. I just think it needs a bit of an update though in terms of the money skills they teach. They spend a ton of time on writing checks and zero time on using any other form of payment. Writing checks still happens for me too but it's about 1% of the bills I pay. I can go months without writing a check....And I haven't sat down to balance my checkbook in about 15 years.

Like I said, the year my dd18 did it, she campaigned and got elected mayor. The skills she learned in that...how to talk to people to find out what mattered to them, how to find ways for groups to work together for common good, how to communicate your ideas to a large audience...I found those skills really valuable. My ds10 will do it next year. I still think the program has value!
Agreed. I only write a few checks but they should teach cash :scared1: checks, debit, credit cards. All options. Of course they would likely teach only the evils of cc use.

So excited that I booked our first excursion for our Alaska cruise via UR portal! 51 k points for a float plane tour which sounds great. Freaks me out a bit because I’m using a lot of points and it’s non refundable. We decided to book now since the float planes only hold 6 passengers (3 of us) and I didn’t want them to book up. Pretty sure I can’t afford Disney prices for this excursion.

fyi, for those who are planning on using the freedom card at costco this week, hold off if u don’t want to call in, some reason costco isn’t coding 5x right now. i’m sure it be fix quickly though.
What?! Just spent $150 at Costco which is a lot for me.

....And I haven't sat down to balance my checkbook in about 15 years.

I quit balancing the checkbook when my youngest was born and she is 16! I used to balance it to the penny every month. When Disney started the double points on gas and groceries in the early 2000s, I used to post each transaction in the check register (even though I put it on cc) and then adjust when I paid the cc bill. Once our youngest was born, I didn't have time to do that so I just tried to stay under a certain amount on the cc each month.
