I love credit cards so much!

They will credit you the fee back. My fee posted. After I get my bonus points I will cancel and the fee will credit. I don't plan on paying it.

My concern is that it is due at the same time/day the points posted last year. So I think I need to pay it and get a refund. I don't want any 'late' payments on my account.

If you pay it they will still refund you. Since you don't want the credit on your account (it will be closed) you can request a check. I would wait for the points to post and pay the AF at the very last minute.

I need to pay the deposit for this Hawaii DCL sailing. Do I do amex plat towards MSR or CSR...or something else?
So far I am under a month in on the plat and only putting non cat spend on it and am at $2200, so I will be fine if I don't put this deposit on there.
The CSR would earn 3x I assume? Anything else I should consider?

if u have the means to complete the MSR without the Hawaii DCL, then i would rather put it on the CSR assuming it earns 3x. if you do not have the means, then Amex Plat would make more sense.
so yeah, put it on the CSR, keep working the plat on 1x category.

Unless u do plan on another card anytime soon. then finishing your MSR as quickly as possible would be the better idea.

Quoting myself here to ask a follow up question. Thank you to those that replied to my original question.

So I booked a spring trip using some 2019 points and had to borrow into 2020. Now, if I have to cancel (unlikely) all points will be returned to 2019, correct. The 2018 banked points will expire 1/31/20.
Then, I can bank the other 2019 points (some originally borrowed from 2020) if needed back into 2020 and those banked points will expire 1/31/ 2021. Is this all correct?

Your banked your February 2018 points into your February 2019 use year....so the 2018 banked points expire 1/31/20

You can bank any original 2/2019 into 2/2020....these are the only points you can bank..they then would expire 1/31/21

The points you borrowed from 2/2020 expire 1/31/2020
Edited...ugh

No sorry not correct

How do the banked 2018 points expire this January? my 2019 year begins February and they are now banked into 2019, so wouldn't they expire 2/2020?
How do the points I borrowed from 2020 also expire this January? If I cancel my trip in March, withing the 31 day rule I would get those points back in my 2019 points. I have until September 2019 to bank them into 2020, and they wouldn't they expire 2-2021?

Hopefully this trip won't have to be cancelled because this is all too confusing. LOL

I think you are correct. Points banked from Feb 2018 UY into Feb 2019 UY would stay in the 2019 use year if you cancelled. They would not return to their original use year. They would expire 1/31/20.
Borrowed points from 2020 UY, will become 2019 UY points.
Banking and borrowing are final transactions. The points cannot be returned to their original UY. Banked points cannot be borrowed or transferred. Borrowed points cannot be banked or transferred.
Hope that helps!

Just got caught up after some business travel the past few days. I came home to a bunch of bills (totaling about $12,500) that I have to pay for my mom. None have a CC option. Plastiq doesn't seem to make sense to use anymore. Should I actually be using checks???

I'm planning on going with @GZanta77 's approach with our BCP. But first, I'll make sure I've maxed my $6000 on it (vgc probably), let the rewards post (this seems to take a couple statements so I need to hurry up with meeting that spend) and then PC to the no fee card. Remember with the BCP that the "calendar year" actually starts with your December statement. Meaning that if your statement closes on the 15th (or whatever date), then all purchases after the 15th get applied to the next calendar year. I guess this is only important if you're concerned about maxing out the 6% category this year.

I think the cutoff changed on the BCP and BCE about a year ago. So instead of the calendar year resetting at your Dec statement cutoff, its now January 1. Just did a chat with Amex a few days ago to confirm. I've been contemplating the same issue as @havaneselover - 6% back on groceries is really 4.4% once you take into account the annual fee. Not sure the BCP is worth it given the grocery 5% category on Discover/Freedom, etc. We do have an upgrade offer on the BCE (we have both BCE and BCP), so was thinking I would upgrade the BCE and downgrade my BCP. Is it really necessary to wait till the rewards post? With the statement lag, that takes forever!

Are you able to see this on your SPG account? I'm looking at my MR account but I have very few charges.
I’m on mobile right now. I’ll check it later and let you know. I think I saw it there too but now doubting myself.

What lounges are at LAX of flying SWA? Trying to decide the next card for DH. Was planning dd sapphires but now thats not allowed trying to see what our options are.

I don’t know, balancing a check book and keeping a budget are good skills to have. If you can balance your checkbook, transitioning to any software that does the same would be similar. And I still have to write checks. Unfortunately in 2018, I still have bills that are check only.

I agree. I just think it needs a bit of an update though in terms of the money skills they teach. They spend a ton of time on writing checks and zero time on using any other form of payment. Writing checks still happens for me too but it's about 1% of the bills I pay. I can go months without writing a check....And I haven't sat down to balance my checkbook in about 15 years.

Like I said, the year my dd18 did it, she campaigned and got elected mayor. The skills she learned in that...how to talk to people to find out what mattered to them, how to find ways for groups to work together for common good, how to communicate your ideas to a large audience...I found those skills really valuable. My ds10 will do it next year. I still think the program has value!

Oh ugh...sorry..I’m Having a hard time believing we are close to 2020...

Your correct your banked 2018 pointsexpire 1/31/2020.....your 2020 points borrowed into your 2019 use year will expire then as well
You can bank your 2019 points into your 2020 use year...so they would expire 1/31/21...

unfortunately, there isnt a lounge @ terminal 1, and there is not terminal connection airside so u would have to go through security twice. Wouldn't advise doing lounges unless u plan on going to the airport like 4 hours in advanced.
most of the PP lounges are in Terminal 2(i think), International Terminal and Terminal 4.

I can bank my 2019 points that were originally 2019.

I will not be able to bank any 2019 points that were originally 2020 points. They would remain 2019 points if I should need to cancel.

Thanks for talking this through with me. :-)
