I love credit cards so much!

RMN..update

For anyone missing cash back on qualifying purchases...you can online chat with RMN after 2 weeks and they will have you upload a photo of the receipt...which they review instantly and put the funds directly into your account. So if you save your receipts it’s possible to get the cashback even if it never goes pending

I read that purchases made & offset by the credit do count.

The nervous stickler in me will be glad to get the points early, but will be sure to "really" complete the spend before the MSR period is over. Just in case.
Thanks!

RMN Success and Amex Offer fail. Since we were at Disney last week, I waited until yesterday to finish all the deals. DH and I ended up with $110 each in RMN cashback. The only place that didn't post was Kohls. I also had a Shutterfly Amex offer that expired yesterday on every card. I decided to only do 4 of them (1 for each of us). I got the first two emails from Amex that I had used the offer at 9:55 and 9:58 pm. The last two showed up as pending Oct 1 on the Amex site even though the gift cards came through. I am guessing that 10:00 pm was the cutoff? It is only $10, but I wouldn't have bought them last night. Note to self: don't wait until the last minute!! Overall, a successful September for deals! Now to patiently wait for more good deals.

CSR vs. CSP

I know a few people have mentioned this recently - now that you can ONLY get one of these cards is our consensus that if you don't immediately need to use your URs (and the 3x dining isn't a game changer for you) that CSP is the better card to get?

I believe the advice I've read (and somewhat agree with) is...
  • Apply for CSP 50,000 point offer
  • Probably still add your dog or kid or middle name as an AU and hope to get the 5,000 bonus (if it doesn't post, who cares - worth a shot)
  • Meet the $4,000 spend
  • Earn 54,000+ URs
  • During the next 12 months earn a bunch of other URs too
  • After a year (and I think you have to wait this long due to the laws) upgrade to CSR
  • Pay the $450 and double dip the Travel Credit - a $150 gain over the next 12 months
  • Use all your URs in all their CSR Glory while you hold a CSR.
  • Downgrade to CSP or CF...wait awhile and then repeat the CSR TC Double Dip in the future
I know this sounds somewhat complex for a newbie (who are typically the people we'd be advising to do this). I'm thinking about it for myself actually when I get eligible for a Sapphire card in March 2020 (yes that is CRAZY far away, haha!). Any thoughts on this? Good Plan...Bad Plan...Do you have a better plan or reason why you'd just get the CSR?

I got a CSP as my first card (in this game, not first card ever) in January because I didn't think we could hit 8k spend for a DD and a $450 AF sounded scary. My current plan is to have DH apply for a CSR in January and I downgrade my CSP to a CF. I just have to convince him first haha.

I have to laugh at AMEX. I got an email last night, offering me 25k miles for a $2000 MS to upgrade my Delta Blue to a Delta Platinum. But I just downgraded my Platinum, to the Blue within the last year LOL. If I thought they'd actually give them to me, and then not kill me when I asked to downgrade again, I'd totally do it. But I have had this card, in one form or another, since 2007, so I don't want to risk them shutting it down.

I'm eligible for the 50k bonus now, was going to PC my CSP to a Freedom and apply for the CSR. I'm not going to use the points until summer of 2020 though, so not sure about paying the $450 annual fee twice.

I would generate a referral link from your CSP...then downgrade to Freedom. Wait a week (or more if you can)...then signup for a new CSP using your own link! BOOM - 10,000 more URs for you :)

hmm... who knows if they might make it 6 years in 2 years... :P

i would still see if I can generate the 65k CSP link first though.

In terms of UR card selections, CIC and Freedom card is all u need now imo.

ABD has this as one of the experiences which I'm willing to try. As they say ... when in Rome (Japan whatever). It's actually one of the reasons I am yet again, putting off the idea of getting a tattoo. I've been saying I'm going to get one for years and haven't pulled the trigger. I was thinking about doing it for my 50th but then found out that some Onsens will ban you if you have a tattoo. So there is that to consider.

its very chill non the less. Unless your tattoo is visible, most places dont check. People inside also mind their own business and dont stare either.
You probably would have better luck in a public pool for both sex as women are allowed to cover themselves up while men cant.

I also posted this on my Japan Itinerary thread, but wanted to see what you guys think:

We started looking at a hotel room for Hakone. We would only need a room for one night and are booking through the Chase portal so only have a couple of options. Right now our plan is to leave Tokyo early in the morning, go through Odwara to Gora, and hike in the Gora park. We would then stay that night and wake up to go to Kyoto the next day. Here are the two hotels we can choose from and the room types we can choose from:

1. Hakone Sengokuhara Prince Hotel (seems to be about a 15 minute commute from the end of our hiking trail)
  • No views of Mt. Fuji or a lake, this one has a golf course instead
  • Can only book a Superior Room = 11,373 points
2. The Prince Hakone Lake Ashinoko (seems to be about a 40-50 minute commute from the end of our hiking trail)
  • Views of the lake and Mt. Fuji
  • Double Room = 14,848 points (not sure what the view would be of)
  • Twin Room, Garden View = 19,796 points
  • Superior Twin Room, Partial Lake View = 20,362 points
  • Twin Room, Lake View = 22,624 points
  • Twin Room, Mountain View = 25,453 points

Obviously, we have a lot of options. It would make the MOST sense to go with the first one because it costs less and is closer to our hike, but the views at the other hotel are so pretty. What do you guys think?

How long is the hike and are you going to want to drop your luggage off before doing it? It seems after hiking I'd be more interested in getting back to a room and showering than traveling a distance. Plus it's the cheapest. I'd also rather be outside the room than inside looking at a view.

I think he first tried using a student app, but bc he's currently between schooling (high school/trade school) he backed out and apped for the regular card. I don't recall him filling a box for rent etc. Think we should try again in 30 days just for kicks? or wait longer....

I don't know but I would go into the app and see what questions it's asking because that might help you figure out what he did. If he's going back to school soon have him do the student card, that may be the way to get it done with such a low income.

I think the others that have had kids apply did student but I can't remember correctly. Do they ask for proof of enrollment?

Yeah - it’s worth checking the “your offers” section on Chase on this stuff. But IMO these are so rare and no way to trigger them (unlike AMEX with Cardmatch/Incognito/etc) that I’m not going to continually go out of my way to mention them. I personally have never seen anybody who I actually interact with be targeted for one of these offers. It’s always some extremely rare random DoC poster or Reddit user, lol.

EDIT: Ok @speedyfishy has seen one so my statement above is untrue now.

So rare but of course my dad was targeted. no 10,000 UR referral bonus for me :badpc:

LOL of course, haha. That also means my statement above is now untrue, lol. I don't "not believe" these people...but when I've never had a viable datapoint myself in the wild (with the number of people I interract with in this game) I basically write it off, haha!

It has been a while since I made a purchase direct from Disney and I wanted to check before I pull the trigger. I will be buying 2 Annual DVC Gold passes through the Disney website. I think I remembered that the Chase Reserve doesn't count as travel when you buy tickets direct from Disney, right? So am I best off using my Freedom Unlimited card for 1.5x? Any other thoughts?

I am a little tempted to get the Chase Disney card for the $200 statement credit. But I thought I saw something about a premium Disney card. Was that just a rumor or should I hold off for that maybe?

ETA: Or I could just go the Target gift card route to get 5%, I guess.

Earlier this year both DW and I downgraded our Hilton Ascend cards to the no-fee card. Within 3 months we had both received and accepted the offer for 75k HH points to upgrade back to Ascend....and it wasn't the first time we have done this. Hope that doesn't put us at risk for shutdown.

The "new" Disney card rumor stems from a survey that was making it's rounds to current Disney Premier cardholders. The survey didn't give any indication of what the signup bonus would be. Our general consensus here was the card wasn't really great. The return was meh compared to what's already out there as the largest benefit was on Disney purchases which many of us are already able to exceed with Gift Card strategies and other signup bonuses. However most of us felt like we'd go for it if the signup bonus was lucrative (but no idea what that might be).

I'd assume getting a Disney card now wouldn't preclude you from getting that card if it ever comes to fruition. Currently there is no "One Disney" card rule with Chase or anything like that :)

I think you are right that it is super rare. It’s just my bad luck. Finally convince a family member to get a card and of course they have the rare higher offer.

I am thinking that would likely come to fruition with the release of a premium card, since it has been a trend we are seeing a lot within Chase.

Are you near a Best Buy? Swagbucks is offering 750 bonus points for $100 purchases plus 2 points per dollar so 950 points for a $100 card. Plus if you use Chase pay 5x this month for purchases greater than $25 you get 1500 bonus points.

The Freedom also is 5x points on chase pay this quater.

I haven’t tried this yet, but I plan to get some giftcards in the next few days.
