Since I'm in the market for some flights via the Chase travel portal in the near future, I decided to log in to my Freedom account and do a dummy booking to see what the Expedia interface is like. First big news, IT SHOWS FLIGHTS FOR 330 DAYS OUT!
After a small glitch (it asked for my children's ages then wiped them out after I hit search so I had to re-enter them), I was able to search round trip flights JFK->LHR for 6/28-7/7/2019. Another glitch is that it shows you the one-way price for each flight but the screen says "roundtrip" underneath the price. I can't figure out how to upload a screen shot here, but the cheapest outbound flight options on
Virgin Atlantic say:
$272.55
or 27,255 PTS
roundtrip
But that's the one-way price, not roundtrip. Hopefully that gets fixed soon as it's confusing if you don't know what your flights should cost.
Another thing I noticed that may be confusing is that when you search for Economy class, the results default to Basic Economy if the airline offers it. Some are labeled as such on the results screen (AA, BA, Iberia, Finnair) but some are not (Virgin Atlantic, Air France, KLM). For the latter, you won't know it's a Basic Economy fare unless you click into the details where it shows that there's a fee for a checked bag. There also isn't a way to exclude Basic Economy fares in the initial search, which for me would be ideal. However, after you choose flights and advance to the next screen where it shows your total price, it gives you the option to upgrade your fare class and lists what's included with each class along with the total price for the upgrade.
Overall, I think it's a pretty easy to use interface, especially once they fix the little glitches I encountered. I hope the other UR-earning cards get the update to Expedia soon as the former interface has seemed very glitchy lately with only showing flights 9 months out. Plus I'm pretty sure I've also been getting Basic Economy fares in my search results through the CSR but there is no indication that that's what it is or option to upgrade before purchasing. Perhaps (hopefully?) these issues are happening because they're in the midst of updating all the systems. I'd love to be able to book my London flights through the portal and not have to call in. (I'm also still watching flights to Puerto Rico in February, but haven't pulled the trigger yet.)
