I love credit cards so much!

FWIW, DLR is nothing like WDW. Some of the offsite hotels are closer to walk to than Disney’s hotels. The Grand Californian is the closest, and also the most expensive, but beautiful. But there are offsite options that are great too.
It was hard for me to wrap my head around just how close everything is after being at WDW.

Thank u. I keep reading that but seemed like the full experience would be nice. For $800-$1500/nt I will probably be fine with a partial experience though.

Weird/Concerning shutdown DP: https://www.reddit.com/r/churning/c...ium=front&utm_source=reddit&utm_name=churning

There are some other random red flags here but the 4/24 status makes this a bit “wow” to me...
I keep re-reading it but the only potential flag standing out to me is their late payment. I don’t see anything else there that’s gotten anyone else tagged. Their double dip was back in May & we know banking has nothing to do with this so my takeaway was NEVER MISS A CHASE PAYMENT BY EVEN $0.01. I ❤️ autopay!

question.... my flight from Maui- LAX just was cancelled and 'changed' to 5 minutes earlier......(really!?) I used Avios thru BA booked on Alaska Air for this leg- can I/Should I do anything with this? IS this an instance where I could possibly look for more convenient flight time to change to fee free? I looked on the BA site briefly, thinking about this, and all it came up with was a window saying they didn't have rights to fly between those two cities...(?) not sure what that means. I didn't get a notice from AK Air, should I check on that site re our seats etc? Edited to add I did check on Ak Air, and seats and all are the same.
Imho don’t touch it. Everything transferred fine apparently, despite being a partner booking, so just be happy about that! I can’t imagine explaining to a booking agent why 5 mins is going to destroy my plans and I absolutely must get that other flight. I once got United to move my flight over a 45 min change but boy did it take some talking/begging!

Btw, Alaska Air = AS :)

I need to get as many Chase UR and/or United points as I can by late September/Early October. I do not want business cards or any cards with AF over $100ish. Here is part of my plan:

  • DH is 0/24 so I will refer him to the CSP and after we meet the spend on that I will refer him CF. I will add one of my kids as an AU on each.
  • By the time we get the above mentioned cards I should be under 5/24. I will get the United Mileage Card (waived AF first year, then $95). If they offer extra points for AU, I can do that (not DH)
  • If time allows (I think it will as we can easily meet MSR right now), I will refer DH to the United Mileage Card.
  • Depending on time I may get the CFU for myself.
Any other ways to amass UR and/or United points without business cards or high AF? Also - will all this activity cause suspicion with Chase (shutdown risk?) I have not applied for a Chase card since fall, 2017. My latest card was Jan 2018 - Discover IT. I have been churning very slowly (1-2 cards per year) but want to pick up pace just for a few months and then cool it after October/November.
Fwiw I would absolutely not have DH go for card #3 that fast entirely due to Chase Shutdown fear.

Hmmm. When will the CSR AF post? I know that the fee is worth it, but want very minimal out of pocket expense right now. Chase doesn't wave CSR first year, do they?

Edit: The CSR AF is a bit more than we can handle right now. Will discuss it but I don't think it will be an option, even with the $300 travel credit.
It will post on the first of the month that happens after you get your card (Jul 25 approval = Aug 1 fee).

For all you flight experts, does the airline owe you anything if they make you miss a connection? My DD flew American and they left over an hour late. They told her at some point if they didn’t leave by 7, she would miss her connection and they could switch her route to get her to destination. They boarded at 6:50, she asked if she needed to be switched they said no. They then didn’t leave till 7:15 and she missed her 2nd flight. They told her all other flights were full for rest of day, but she could wait standby. On her own, she found a bus leaving from airport so she got on that and paid for it. It took her most of the way. Her BF picked her up from there. Soooo, question is, can she get reimbursed for that bus ticket? Should she complain and get something? Or is she just SOL? I’m afraid same thing will happen on way home. She is connecting in Boston and apparently has to go through security again to catch connection. It is a different airline, but I’m guessing a partner? It is a small airline and she bought all parts of ticket through American. Any advice?

No I haven’t since the chase ur portal is still malfunctioning. I’d like to stay on property and it looks like a 1 bedroom at any of the 3 resorts would work. Of course they are expensive so maybe will end up offsite.

Oh, forgot you have an under 3 :) So you can fit the rooms for 5. I miss those days!

Several of the offsite hotels are just as close as the onsite so keep that in mind. And if you are ok with just one bathroom, there really are lots of options. Having said that, I missed the magic of being in the Disney bubble by staying offsite. I'd love to stay at DLH or GCH.

Same! We bought PH'ers (which we never do at WDW) but didn't even work PH'ing into our touring plans until we got there and could wrap our mind around how easy that is at DLR. It's crazy easy! I just loved that so much about DLR!

I love the Grand Californian - it's so pretty and so close to everything. And I love being inside the Disney bubble. Having said that, the prices they have been charging there for the past few years are pretty crazy. Every time I book it I end up canceling it and flying all the way to FL for the cheaper rate at the deluxe resorts there. I would love to go back to DL, but I have a hard time paying the current rates.

Did she buy a round trip ticket? If she did, is the airline aware she went the bus route? I'd be more concerned that her return ticket might get cancelled because she didn't fly them to her destination on a r/t ticket then I would be with the bus. She should call them and figure out what can be done, they may do something, it'll depend on the airline. If they only offered stand by and not a guaranteed flight tomorrow with a hotel tonight I don't know what she would get. If they offered the later with the caveat she could try and fly stand by then that would be different. But my first concern would be the return flight.

So I finally list an item on ebay like I've been meaning to do. Last time I sold this same item, I set my starting bid at 99 cents and the item sold for $20. This time I started it at $12. Both times I've had the buyer payingshipping, based on ebay's calculation.

So someone has bid on my item, then messaged me to say they missed that my shipping charge is outrageous and unreasonable compared to similar listings. And that I should reconsider that cost or please cancel their bid.

Ok.... let's say she wins my item. She pays $12 plus shipping $9ish. If I look for the same item in other listings.... it starts at like $25 with free shipping...
That’s ridiculous. Personally I would contact eBay asap. The buyer appears to be violating eBay policy here so I would contact eBay tell them what happened and ask what the policy is here and what your options are. You could report them BUT you don’t want to report them if they haven’t actually violated a policy and eBay customer support ought to be able to give you some guidance on that. Buyer policies: https://www.ebay.com/help/policies/rules-policies-buyers/rules-policies-buyers?id=4206

I have had sellers buy stuff and then leave snide feedback about my S&H but that’s it. (I caved and started building in the price to offer “free shipping”.)

eBay “discourages” the cancelling of bids in this article even though it is technically allowed. Idk the ramifications of cancelling a bid having never done that. More info:
https://www.ebay.com/help/selling/listings/selling-auctions/cancelling-bid?id=4140

Fwiw the buyer could have retracted their bid but they chose to make you take the hit for it/make you change your listing. https://www.ebay.com/help/buying/bidding/retracting-bid?id=4013

Help! Trying to buy DHs ticket from YVR to ORD. It is $165. I have $100 AA gift card I want to use. But when I get to the payment screen, gift card is not an option. If I do a dummy booking to say MCO, gift card is an option.
Is this not allowed? @calypso726 ? Anyone?
Have you tried calling AA to make it work?

Really. It was absolutely no problem at all.
That's so weird. I called the 1800Walgreens # after two stores told me the same thing, and the customer service person said it was system-wide. Given the comments here, that's clearly not the case.

Another DP if you want to come visit Florida...ours has a limit of $500/day but possible. Which reminds me... I need to get to it!

Ha! I may just do that :)

I stopped in one day and bought $100 Amazon and a lighter my husband wanted to test the waters. Then went back and spent $275 on just GCs. No id, no questions, no issues. While there is one closer to home, I think I'll stick with this particular store. There was a sign with a dollar per day limit, I think $300, maybe $500, but that's it.
Wow, clearly I was given misinformation or stores are making the decision individually. I went to two Oakland walgreens. Maybe I'll try the burbs.

YMMV. There’s nothing in Walgreens’ system prohibiting paying for gift cards with a credit card, except for a $500 daily limit that’s hard coded into their POS, but each store may have their own policies. I made a big dent in our CF 5x by buying a $500 gift card at Walgreens (in Daly City) just last week. I’ve purchased $500 VGCs, Best Buy, Disney, Amazon, and eBay gift cards from Walgreens with a credit card, no problem. This was in and around San Francisco, Daly City, SSF, San Bruno, Millbrae, and Burlingame. (Seriously, just travel down El Camino Real, and I’ve had success with every Walgreens store from South City down to Burlingame. A lot of the Walgreens in the city have limited selections and cashiers more likely to give me a hard time, so I tend to pop into Walgreens when I happen to be on the Peninsula to do my shopping.) Try another store, or another city over. Good luck!
I was assuming this was the case, but when I called Walgreens the lady didn't hesitate and said it was a store wide policy. I have to go to the Peninsula soon so I'll try over there. Super frustrating to be given bad information though. Thanks for the help with the local stores.

I just bought a Starbucks gc yesterday w my CF at Walgreens.

Banging head over here!!!

I’m in Chicago area but unless it’s a new change, I’ve not seen it. I’ll have to report back as I was planning to get some GCs next week.

From all the reports, I'm guessing the customer service lady was wrong and the Oakland stores made their own policy (which was initially what we thought due to the location.) I hope you have better luck than me :)

i bought a $50 Vanilla VGC at walgreens just fine. they have $500 there. was testing a method to get rid of it, but it failed :(

Anyone buy gc at Staples with Amex Offer? codes okay?

That is odd. I've never had that happen. In that case, I'd call it in and explain that you should not be charged for the phone booking because their system would not allow you to complete the process online.

Thanks. I don't sell on there often so I've never run into this. It's frustrating if I'm going to take some hit because of this... Is there a way to contact eBay without calling? Am I missing it? I mean besides the fact that I'm antisocial and hate calling... :rolleyes1 It's also a pain to do at work so it'd have to wait until tonight.

Just looking again, since i was on my phone last night... there is one listing for this item that is at $13.50 with free shipping. Every other listing is the same or more than mine :headache:

If DH got CIP in May, think its pushing it to try for CIC?

DHs cards (3/24):
  • Disney 9/16, SPG personal 9/16, CSR 8/17, SPG biz 3/18, CIP 5/18
  • Older cards: Barclay Arrival Plus, Discover it

Yes. Bought $300 online last Monday. It arrived Thursday. Activation code came Saturday. 10% back posted by Friday. Will do two more this month.

So...I just checked and I won't be under 5/25 until after 9/25/18. I will have DH get the CSP and United Card and not the CF. With the UR points I already have and some creative shopping thanks to @Lain I may just get enough points for my plans. And if I can put off booking until December or January, I will get the United Card too.
