I never have any luck on opening day. I always still get good rates for Thanksgiving later on. Just keep watching. The caveat is I am not ever traveling the peak days, though (wed/sun). Last year they just kept dropping and dropping until it was like 3k miles each way.

Oh, I hope this happens for us! We were planning to go to Sedona/Grand Canyon the week of Thanksgiving (the Friday before, coming home on Thanksgiving) and the prices seem so crazy right now that I've been thinking that we have to change our plans.

So as is my usual SW opening day experience, flights to SoCal are ridiculous for December. I am not even looking at a holiday, just wanted to do Dec in DL as some here suggested. I'm not discouraged though, will keep watching and in true SW fashion, they will drop. SW is basically Kohl's, a pricing model that makes me crazy.

I was just looking again and I found that we could fly to Orlando in September cheaper than we could to Phoenix the week before Thanksgiving. From Sacramento! It's an hour and 45 minute flight! That's just crazy to me.

It’s in terminal one near gate 8. Most SWA flights go out of terminal 2 but there is an airside corridor that connects. You could have a long walk though if your flight goes out of far end of terminal 2. I was lucky this time and my SWA flight was out of 6.

Many of you know that I accrue all credit card related savings and apply them to the cost of travel. (I've mentioned it before) That includes statement credits, cash back, other CC related discounts, etc. I basically run my family's finances like a business (we literally have an income statement and balance sheet...don't hate, I'm weird lol!) So lately the game has been going good...like super good. The accrual is so strong that I'm still trying to assign some AMEX MRs cashed out in Nov '17 and over $1,000 from my Citi Prestige signup which posted in Jan '18. We are earning funds towards travel faster than I can use them (and assign the credits).

So this weekend was a good one in the @SouthFayetteFan household. The tire went flat on my older daughter's bike (which we had previously purchased for $5 at a yard sale). My younger daughter still had a toddler bike (with no chain - just pedals on the wheels). So in a rare moment, I overcame my cheapness and the girls are both proud owners of 2 brand new Walmart bikes! Of course I'm going to offset the cost with the abundance of unassigned accrued savings. At any rate...in a strange way, CC signups got my daughter's bikes. That's a new wrinkle for me in this game, LOL! I figured you guys would get a kick out of it!

I was just looking again and I found that we could fly to Orlando in September cheaper than we could to Phoenix the week before Thanksgiving. From Sacramento! It's an hour and 45 minute flight! That's just crazy to me.

We fly to Orlando every sept (except this one!!) from Denver and the flights are so cheap. We use SW points but the cash price is normally around $220RT. We went to WDW once in early December and our flights were about $400RT. I almost croaked! I love, love, love traveling in Sept.

Well I’m livid. The manager was supposed to come at 1:30 with housekeeping and fix the sheets. The manger never came and the housekeeper was arguing with me and said she changed the sheets yesterday. I was like uhhh they are still dirty. Below is part of the review I posted on TripAdvisor but basically housekeeping admitted to me they don’t change the sheets between guests unless there is a stain. The housekeeping manager was yelling at the housekeeper for not realizing the stain when the sheets should be changed no matter what.

Today I went down to the front desk and spoke to a manager who said she would personally come up to my room at 1:30pm to make sure the sheets were clean. At 1:30pm I get a knock on the door from housekeeping. She is unaware of the situation so I inform her. She tells me that the item that was stained is called an insert (comforter) and not the sheets. I tell her then can I get the insert changed and she tells me that she needs to look and see if they have an extra one available. Confused by this statement I ask doesn’t this insert get changed between guest stays. She tells me it only gets changed if their is a stain. This leads to a few issues. One it was stained how did no one from housekeeping notice. Two they don’t change the insert between guests which is unacceptable for a hotel in this price range. While all this is going on I have called the front desk two times wondering where the manager is who assured me she would be here at 1:30pm. Both times I was transferred and got sent to voice mail. The housekeeping lady eventually found a new insert but the manager never showed up.

I'll post a more detailed reply when I get the chance tomorrow, but I'll say the Hyatt House on Harbor and Katella is more conveniently located (Starbucks and Walgreens on the ground floor, GardenWalk almost across the street, lots of restaurant options nearby) and a more pleasant walk (along treelined streets on Harbor) to Disneyland Resort's eastern gateway than the Four Points by Sheraton (which is located across the I-5 freeway overpass).

Also check out the Springhill Suites and Residence Inn (Marriotts). They both look very nice and we're staying at the RI in July.

I always wonder about those little, skimpy blankets between the two sheets also. Seems that is the new thing to do but it freaks me out a bit cause 1) I dunno if it's clean...and as a bit of a germaphobe, I need to know, and 2) It's just not warm enough. No matter the climate, my dh likes the a/c really low so I need extra blankets to keep me warm. That little get-up is simply not warm enough! I want blankets, and lots of them, and clean ones at that!

Airport experts, would you prefer to fly in/out of Denver or Albuquerque? Prices are similar (I will be flying Southwest because I have funds that need to be used before September). Denver has slightly better flight times, but is an hour farther from where we actually need to be (will be renting a car and driving into the New Mexico forest). I'm thinking that as a larger airport, Denver will be more of a hassle (security, car rental), so I'm leaning toward Albuquerque. I have been in the Denver airport before but only to make a connection, never as a final destination, and have never been to Albuquerque. Anyone with experience at one or both airports?

I have flown into ABQ more recently, but flew into Denver on a ski trip in 2008. I really like the ABQ airport - it's fairly small, not busy, no crazy waits for security, easy to get to the rental car lot, etc. It's actually got a kind of charming old-school airport feel to it - like, all the gate signs are physical placards, not digital signs, and the architecture and decor is in a very cozy New Mexican style. And I recall the food court being decent. I'd go with ABQ since it means an hour less drive for you as long as the flight times aren't toooo inconvenient. But Denver is nice enough too - I think it was updated more recently so probably has better food and dining options if that's a concern for you.

I would choose the smaller airport if pricing is similar. Bigger airports are just always going to be harder, more time consuming to get around. I've been to both airports. While Den is much, much larger, I consider Denver a fairly easy airport to navigate. I grew up mostly using Dallas Love Field (easy!) and DFW main airport which I think is so complicated...to this day, it's such a pain, imo. Yikes, we have to change planes at DFW on our way home from Madrid, which means we probably have to change terminals. Not looking forward to it!

Hey there, I live in Davis and I had no idea flights from SMF to Orlando could be so affordable! Every time I’ve checked it’s been but around $500. I know SW recently added a direct route so I’ll have to check that out. I wish we could go in September but DS10’s soccer and school schedule make it impossible.

Hi, a little OT but I know there's a lot of you that do bank bonuses so thought I'd ask here. I have a coupon to open a Chase checking account for the $300 bonus. We don't have a Chase branch here so I'll need to open the account online (I had a Chase checking account previously but drove 2.5 hours to a branch to open it). I looked on DoC's site and it says that Chase charges cash advance fees for all Chase credit cards. Is there any way to avoid this? I have Amex, Chase, and Discover cards I could use to fund it to open the account, and will be doing actual direct deposits from my employer to keep it fee free, just not sure how to open it. Thanks for any feedback!
