I love credit cards so much!

What was interesting was that I was looking at the same date on both airlines. So AS had availability for a saver award when AA didn’t for the same date. I’ve booked on AA before, just as booking opens and I book one way, then wait for the return to open, so I get that. Plus we probably go ORD to PEK but return thru PVG or HKG.
Just trying to predict how many miles I might need, but picking an assortment of dates confuses me. For instance, if I look this summer and there are non stop flights, but looking at dates in May 2019, no non stops from ORD. I can connect in DFW and the flights show lie flat seats in biz but I’m not sure I’ll have enough miles for that (assuming 70k x 6 flight = 420k miles) If not Biz, I’d prefer Economy Plus nonstop. So I’m really just trying to make a plan and see which flights might cost the fewest miles (I’m not married to AA, just lots of flights from ORD, though UA is big also so I’ll be checking that too)
Thanks for any & all input.

I wonder if the reason might be because AS allows stop overs and AA does not. All the ones I see on AS for 70K have the flight connecting in DFW and flying out the following morning. I did see a decent amount of availability on JAL via the AS website. You can book JAL with AA miles. You just have to search for the availability on BA. You may have to coach an agent to book it. Just say the last agent you spoke to said ... https://liveandletsfly.boardingarea.com/2017/11/25/jal-award-booking-guide

We used AA miles to book JAL from NRT-ORD to come back home. Then paid OOP for the ORD-MIA flight since AA wanted to tack on an additional 40k miles for the plane change and connection and the cash price was really cheap even in first. I figured I'd be better off earning the butt in seat miles.

@CyndiLouWho - Allow me to say :thanks: Playing around with your itinerary on AS led me somehow to a completely different thought process for our Japan trip next year. Gotta talk to DH later today and see if he’s game for a little more crazy in his life :joker: I’m thinking I should do it in person. I kind of enjoy the look of equal parts excitement and trepidation he gets anytime I say the words, “I have an idea.”

Can someone help me? I downgraded my CSP to the Chase Freedom. I thought there was no AF with the Freedom but there's a $95 AF on there...is that left over from the CSP? When I spoke to the rep at Chase I was told the AF would be refunded . I did the downgrade about ten days ago. I haven't even received the Freedom card yet, just noticed this on the Chase online banking site.

Maybe SM and ask about it. We have downgraded before and I don't think it took that long.

Applied for the CIC! 30-day message

@kmc8826 Your words of warning were in my head and I made sure to put in my dh's SSN, rather than mine :D

ETA: Status line already saying 2 weeks!

Yay! I think I'm going to apply later next week. Just trying to put as much distance between DH's CIP and this card, as well as working on my spend for my own CIP!

Of topic for this thread but DVC and travel related. I have a reservation at Disney's Hilton Head Island Resort over July 4th. Although I have quite a few DVC points, my Hilton Head contract is only 50 points.

So, every other year in summer I like to stay there and I'm juggling to make the most of those few points and to use my other contracts at the 7 month mark. This year I needed a 2 bedroom - 41 points a night! Well, just had a waitlist come through which gave me another night - now we have 5 nights for 205 points - July 1 to July 6. I started out booking these nights at the 11 month mark and gradually it came together! So happy had to share with someone!

Also, these were holding points from the trip I canceled earlier in March, so couldn't waitlist until 60 days out. So, I'm especially surprised that I got the waitlist so quickly (one week on wait list!)

That is amazing! Glad it worked out for you. We are heading there the week of Memorial Day and it seems like we are always a few points short of getting the nights we want! I just wish they offered cash rates for more nights. We were able to get the cash rate for 2 nights last year, but not any this year.

I think this thread has convinced me to go for the CIC next week. Originally I was planning my next card to be the CIP (with a referral from DH) early Sept. But I can push that out further I think. If I apply for the CIC, do you think I'm moving too fast? I have:

CSR 1/18
JetBlue plus 1/18
SPG Biz 3/18

Thanks!

In some cases , yes, it is like paying the annual fee twice for one free night.

Especially if they just signed up for the card in the last year to get the bonus and were intending to cancel anyway. This doesn't sound like your relatives.

No one was actually expecting to get a free night from the SPG card. (Well, I should say not many were expecting it.) I've had the card for almost 20 years and never got a free night, except during the hotel rewards programs promos some of which used to be really nice. It's been a keeper card for me and the bonuses also helped. I've gotten over $500 in bonus money, including doing my last $25 off $75 for Chewy yesterday. It was also one of @calypso726 's keeper cards in the past at least before the devaluation.

If I remember correctly (cause I hate trying to dig back to find the info) @calypso726 received 10K points after a long call. I think I'm going to call today. I'm not going to cancel. Because I'm happy to actually get the free night next year. But, I just realized my anniversary is March not January (old age) and I'd like to be able to book that night in January. And 10K is essentially a free night or maybe more depending on the hotel. Too good not to try.

I'll let everyone know if I get any points.
These were both cards opened last spring for the bonus. I'm not really sure if they intend to keep or not long term tho- I think they have other cards they value more with better perks in the short term -I'm guessing they'll close soon since no free night = no value to them currently.

That is awesome! We have not stayed at Hilton Head yet but are hoping to do so one day. Love it when DVC availability works out

Chase doesn’t know that’s your SPG Biz exists so you should be in great shape to apply now :) if your next card is in Sept then you should also be good.

I’m not an expert but I don’t think so. My SO’s stats are similar.
He has 12/17 Marriott Personal
3/18 SPG BiZ
3/18 CIP
4/18 CIC

I think you're totally right about that!
Here's how I was able to sign up on the Honors site today:
Log in - View Promotions (still says I'm not signed up for anything) - My Available Offers tab - "More Details" button on 2x package image - "Sign Up Now" link on left side of page - Log in again - It now says I'm registered

Ok, FYI, so our Hilton account still says we have no active offers BUT our stay from this past weekend posted and we got the double points! I hope you got your too now.

So we now have a whopping 15k in points which I'm sure still gets us nothing but I just realized Hilton counts stays as well as nights. (I really wasn't paying attention apparently) So we only need 1 more stay this year to make Silver. Not that it does much but I imagine it's better than Wyndham Gold? I got an offer from Wyndham that if I stay one more night they'd give me Gold status through end of 2019.

Of course the year we're not supposed to be traveling much is the year we keep getting easy offers or program changes to get higher status

I have several (Prob 4-ish) credit 'monitoring' services from various big data looses. Out of all of them only one of them detects any 'change/activity' in credit history, even two SW cards in one day didn't trigger on the others. I got a notice from my OPM one within like 12 hours of the approval that someone looked at my credit report for the CIC. I wonder how many people are trusting those and not still keeping an eye on their report?

How long does it normally take Disney to refund your credit card after you cancel a trip? I booked a room this past Saturday but almost immediately canceled it in favor of the room I had booked through Chase but still have not received a refund.

ETA: I also did not receive a cancellation email even though the reservation is no longer showing up on DME. Wondering if I should call...
