I love credit cards so much!

I have about $500 more needed to meet my MSR for Amex SPG Biz. Do you think it's safe to purchase GCs on Raise.com to finish up the spend?
I purchased Walmart GCs on Raise multiple times while hitting min. spends on AMEX and didn't have any issues. Obviously with the AMEX RAT out there though it's always a changing landscape, lol. You're probably fine.

Someone more tech savvy help! I got jealous of @SouthFayetteFan and his easily accumulated UR's on his Freedom today. I figure I would do some arm-chair category maxxing except for....I can't figure it out. We are 2 player with 1 Freedom each. DH has a LG & a Samsung phone (so I think he can use Samsung pay, Chase pay and Google pay). I have a Moto Z so I can use Chase Pay and Google Pay. Google seemed easiest but I can't do P2P and pay with CC? Bank account only. I can't find any P2P info on the Chase pay app. Has anyone made this work?

I'm not seeing a way to do it with Google. Google updated their wallet to "Google Pay Send" but even though it has your wallet info you can only use a debit card or bank account to send money, so I can't see a way to make a balance with a credit card. So far as I know, the only way to get a Google Pay balance is to receive money. So giggles and kicks I tried to request money since it says anyone with a phone number or email address but looks like the payer needs a Google pay account too to complete the transaction, so you're stuck with the same limitations.
From their help site: "Credit cards, prepaid cards, and PayPal accounts can't be used to send or receive money."
It would have been nice since Google Pay Send is fee free for now, but I guess that's how they do that :) I guess have to wait until next quarter with PayPal if you don't have any Apple products.

@amalone1013 I'm gonna get a chance to try Timberline at DIA when dh & I fly to Orlando in April :) So hoping it is still open! Do you remember about how long it took to get your food? Are they quick knowing people are on their way to catch flights? We won't have time for a leisurely meal.

Daughter ate at Timberline last Thursday on her way back from Colorado. She had the chicken cordon bleu sandwich and they also ordered wings and the mac and cheese (2 little ones plus Dad came through security with her to help her get on the plane.) Her evaluation was that it was 'just okay'. She said the mac and cheese was Kraft dinner, but of course the girls loved it, so no biggie.

Last night she checked into her Sheraton in Chicago for her work trip. She has the SPG business and asked about Club access. The desk clerk said, no, you don't get it.

So when she got to her room she called me, and after rechecking the website while she was on the phone I suggested she bring the subject up with someone else ie a manager. She didn't want to deal with that so instead, she tweeted Starwood.

In 7 minutes, she had a call from the manager that they were sending up a new set of room keys. I would have asked for a manager the first time around and gave the hotel the opportunity to keep the issue in house, but not everyone rolls the same.

:rotfl2:Sounds eerily familar to stories of proposing that the SO who rather not churn slum it in economy while the churner other half enjoys life in First Class. Hey @calypso726 :rotfl:

That was what I told my DH--he was miraculously, suddenly on board!

No issues! I've used it out of state and nonstop since getting it a month ago. Never been questioned.
Awesome. That's what I hoped to hear. Thanks!!!

I don't know if it's b/c this thread is so huge and fast moving, but I don't even get notified of new posts anymore.... other threads are still notifying....

Well I got an email saying the payment was sent. I’ll wait a couple days to see if it clears. Online it’s showing as sent. I can’t remember if it said processing or sent yesterday morning before I got the email.

I just have to say I truly appreciated the Hamilton lyrics so cleverly placed in this post! :music:

A few too many Hamilfans in my house... there is a lot of lyric quoting going on. As long as my kindergartner doesn't bust out with ANYTHING that Hercules Mulligan says, we're ok

Our local theater announced Hamilton coming in 2018/2019 during the 2016/2017 season and said the season ticket holders would have to renew their 2017/2018 season tickets in order to be part of the subscribers for season tickets in 2018/2019! Sure enough, there were no subscriptions available for this season and there is a wait list. I did early renewal each time just to be safe! I am in the same boat as you and have lots of friends and family that want to see it with us. Heck, I want to see it while it is here multiple times. Hopefully, the timing will work out and I've got a new card to make MSR. I was fine with the extortion but what really made me upset was after the season ticket holders renewed, we found out when we got our packets that there would be NO pre-sale tickets available to subscribers for Hamilton. Now, I will be fighting the rest of the mob when tickets go on sale for extra tickets.
So not what I expected ... talk about - The world turned upside down.

I'd rather be divisive than indecisive. I mean, I'd rather be extorted and have a shot at extra tickets than be stuck fighting for them with everyone else! Yeah, I got season tix last season to be sure I could renew for this season. I usually subscribe to one of the other professional theaters in town and I usually cherry pick the touring broadway shows rather than getting season tickets. I have tickets to things like "Love Never Dies" and "The Bodyguard" this year - not super high on my list of shows to see, but it paved the way to Hamilton tix, so there ya go.

I ate there a couple of weeks ago - definitely just OK. But they were reasonably speedy. Think we are going to try to eat there again on our way through Denver next week, provided our flight is on time (not much of a layover).

Here is DOC's write up https://www.doctorofcredit.com/pnc-300-checking

Here is a list of DPs for what credit cards will/won't count as cash advance with bank funding the PNC
https://www.doctorofcredit.com/does...card-count-as-a-purchase-or-cash-advance/#PNC

Here are the DPs as to what has counted as a direct deposit. https://www.doctorofcredit.com/knowledge-base/list-methods-banks-count-direct-deposits/#PNC
PNC are back and offering up to $300 in checking bonuses. All of the bonuses require at least 10 debit card transactions. How much you’ll receive depends on the account you plan to open and is broken down as follows:
  • Open a Virtual Wallet Account and receive $50 with direct deposits totaling $500
  • Open a Virtual Wallet with Performance Spend and receive $200 with direct deposits totaling $2,000
  • Open a Virtual Wallet with Performance Select and receive $300 with direct deposits totaling $5,000

Keeping it fee free depends on the bonus and account type you are going for. https://www.doctorofcredit.com/pnc-300-checking/#Avoiding_Fees

$25 fee is account is closed before 180 days. Some DPs suggest they don't follow through on that https://www.reddit.com/r/churning/comments/6em0m2/daily_discussion_thread_june_01_2017/dic4q7v/

Thank you! I was reading some of this on DOC's site last night but hadn't seen his actual write up. That's really helpful and answers some of my questions.

For the debit card transactions, these can be tiny, like a pack of gum or $1 reload to Amazon, right? And is that 10 per month or just 10 and then the commitment fulfilled for those?

So question regarding bonus from referring someone when will it post to your account? Dh first statement has already posted. I still haven’t received the sign up bonus.

The account can be opened online. The credit card funding needs to be done then. They ask for personal info, and then have some security questions took about five minutes. Then PNC sends you a debit card and you can set up the online account once that comes in the mail. The credit card funding comes first so you may need to pay your credit card bill before you have access to the funds.

What bonus are you going for the $50 or $200 or $300?
The $50 bonus requires 500 in the account to be fee free. the 200 2k and the $300 5k.

The basic savings is fee free with $300 in the account.

For the direct deposit I don’t have an DPs of what bank transfers work but you will see how it codes so you can do some trial and error. This is what Doc says works: https://www.doctorofcredit.com/knowledge-base/list-methods-banks-count-direct-deposits/#PNC

Early termination fee is $25 if closed before 180 days.

I haven’t closed my account yet.

Thank you! I knew you had done this recently so I'm glad you chimed in :) I'm not sure which checking to do. I'm not in a target state for the bonus so I'm not even sure I'd get it. I definitely don't want to park 5k there. So, either the $50 or $200.

Just adding to this. Transfers from a Capital One 360 account worked as direct deposit. I can't remember if I pushed or pulled the funds in though. I believe I may have originated the transaction on the Capital One side. @havaneselover may recall how she set hers up.

I know I have asked before but I still don't get it...what is the difference between pushing or pulling funds? I have never heard those terms until this thread. Dh & I both have Cap 1 360 accounts. If I go in and transfer to my PNC checking, does that work?

We are considering staying at a Starwood when we are in FL next month (we may stay at the one you recommended in Tampa but still on the fence as to where is best location for us)...anyways, I just got dh the spg biz. Is the lounge access a part of having that card, or only certain card holders? Your daughter's story of not being given lounge access even though she has the card is something I've read a lot recently. So, I'm confused how that works. We are also Marriott Gold which I read gives us Gold with SPG too.

You only get automatic lounge access at Sheratons with the SPG Biz.

Do you have to book with the card? Or just have the card? My husband travels for work and must use his work visa but he has a Sheraton booked next month, I believe and wondered if he could get lounge access just by showing the card.

Some people have gotten it without being in a target state if you want to try. 5k is a lot. For my SO we are going to try the $200 bonus and transfer from chase hopefully that counts as a DD. You can try Capt 1 360. Some have had success using that others, but there was one DP of it not working on docs page.

I don't think pushing and pulling are technical banking terms (I could be wrong) but it seems to be the easiest way to remember the deposit flow.
If you want to use the Cap1360 to make a deposit into the PNC checking, setup the transfer from Cap1360 and send the money to PNC. This is a push of funds into the new account.
If you were to setup the transfer from PNC and ask for the money from your Cap1360, that would be a pull of funds into PNC. Since you're initiating it from the targeted account (PNC) it won't be considered a direct deposit since you asked for it (at least it's highly unlikely).
I like to think of direct deposits as a surprise to the deposit account, just suddenly it was directly deposited in there like your paycheck :)

Thank you!!!!! That makes complete sense and I can see why those terms are used. Now that I understand the difference, the terms are perfect.

I think as long as you book directly with Starwood you're fine. Here's a really comprehensive OMAAT article on the subject.

Awesome I was looking for a newer article as well! When I did a search initially I got their articles from 2015 when the benefit was added. I checked it against the current terms and it still seemed accurate but I like newer posting to confirm. I liked their article on the Lounge Access Myths where they listed the different rate types and what's likely to be eligible and what's not.
