I love credit cards so much!

I'm pretty sure I had just wished you a speedy recovery and expressed my fear of catching the flu the day before I got sick. I'm feeling human again, but it took a solid week of bedrest.
Yep. It’s awful. And the people who are sick for 2 days and think they had the flu have NO idea. I work in an ICU. At one point this winter 50% of our ICU was full of influenza positive patients.

Glad you’re feeling better.

Hi, I'm seeing this a little late here but I'd be glad to help. I actually called the mortgage company to ask what address to use to send in a check. I was hoping for a different address than what Plastiq already had recorded as a Provident Funding address. She told me the first line should read ATTN: CASHIER. I just used that as the Recipient Name and stuck in the name Provident somewhere on the second line. Plastiq didn't pick it up at all because they think I'm sending to Attn:Cashier, not Provident. You could try calling your mortgage companies to see if you can do something similar.

I am trying to send a test payment and I don't see multiple address lines.
Should the company name read as the bank's name or the attn cashier thing?

ETA: Just tried with company name "attn:cashier-Heritage Bank" and then the address as usual in those fields. DIdn't work. Grrr. This is a small bank. I am surprised.
Any other ideas? I did put the category as rent/real estate. Is that a problem?

Can you try it without Bank in the name? ATTN: CASHIER Heritage

I have only had the flu two times in my life (about 20 years apart) and both times, I was so sick, I lost days...Like had no memory of about two days each time. Other than a bad kidney infection I had once, when I spiked a really high temp, I've never been so sick as with the flu. I know the difference between the flu and a cold but I think many don't.

I feel so badly for all of you whose job it is to be subjected to the flu in order to take care of the rest of us. Thank you!

Saw on reddit that State Farm has an app that takes Apple Pay! Made my day, huge state farm bill coming up and this never even occurred to me, 3x mobile payment on my Altitude Reserve here I come! (I don't currently have Freedom for that sweet 5x.) Someone else mentioned the Comcast app also takes Apple Pay.

I feel so fancy, I finally did the BB gift card deal. The other times they'd come up I never needed them that badly, plus I was worried about getting stuck with BB gcs. I need 5 or so usb drives to back some stuff up, and they're on sale this week there (and really the same price everywhere else). So I bought one $150 gc and will use it on the way home for the usb drives and a Disney GC. Thanks to @havaneselover for mentioning the swagbucks QR code, because I plan to use that. And thanks to @Lain for you nice write up of the deal... When I logged into DH's BB rewards account to get his number to put in the gift card transaction, he had two $5 reward certs :)

I'm planning
  • today: usb drives (~$50) plus $80 Disney gc, using up about $130 of the $150 BB gc, swagbucks should earn around $8 total.
  • when the $15 codes come out: take that, the rewards certs, a $5 promo gc from them I've been holding on to, and last $20 on the other gc and get a $50 Disney gc, hopefully swagbucks code is still around and would earn around $6.
  • In total I'd get $130 in Disney $ for $100 (subtracting usb drives because I'd buy them anyways) plus $14 from swagbucks
And I'd probably never have figured that out if it wasn't for you guys :)

Gonna have to try this...anyone know if a mortgage through Navy Federal is blocked with Plastiq?

Same thought here. Our mortgage is with Chase, so no go for us on the mortgage front, but our car payments are working just fine through Plastiq for 3x, and now the thinking here is we will likely also keep both CIPs (or possibly PC one to CIC, but thinking about applying for one as well) since it's become essentially a no AF card for us with the payback.

Wait, what? I thought it was just mortgages that get 3x with CIP? Car payments too? Anything else?

My mortgage payment to Mr Cooper seems to have processed ok. I'll try Ditech tomorrow. Thanks to @peel and @wendow for your help!!

Anyone know of a workaround for Chase and/or Wells Fargo? Perhaps I'll try the "Attn: Cashier" thing.

That write up needs to be updated somewhat. Cashstar no longer codes for 3x UR on CIP. Happened relatively recently... :( Still a pretty good deal, but not as lucrative anymore.

Everything. Amex and Visa have their excluded categories and blacklists, but if you can get a payment to process you should be good to go. I’ve yet to see a DP not coding 3x on CIP when done properly. Get in while the gettin’s good!

It almost makes me wish DD had a tuition payment due soon. Ha! I don't know why I am so slow to get around to doing these things. It seems overwhelming when I am reading and asking questions but then when I go do it, I realize it wasn't all that complicated.

I know. Sometimes I just can't wrap my head around one more thing! I think I ignored Plastiq initially due to the fees - but that was before I realized the CIP would earn 3x.

Regarding tuition, does your state offer a tax deduction for contributing to a 529? If so, you might want to consider dumping the funds in there and paying her school tuition from the 529. I can't recall whether you were part of the discussion about this a couple weeks back or not . . .

I'm the same. Had I not really needed plastiq to help me meet minimum spend on all the biz cards, I would have completely ignored the plastiq chatter as just 'too much trouble'. I overwhelm easily. I blame it on having so many kids...

Posting the following because sometimes we get so focused on saving money on vacations and travel hacking via credit cards that we may fail to think outside that box. It happened to me. A few months ago I was trying to figure out the best way to mitigate our hotel costs at Hong Kong Disneyland Resort, Shanghai Disneyland, Tokyo Disneyland resort and Hotel MiraCosta at Tokyo Disney Sea this summer. I was toying with a combination of a number of cash back credit cards and some MS with a few bank bonuses thrown in for good measure. Going into 2 player mode it would be do-able and I've done it before. At some point I recalled that HKDL resort was able to be booked with DVC points and that would be easy to do. Well, I've been calling everyday since December to see if HKDL was available for booking for our dates but they haven't released anything past March 31 :headache: Beyond frustrating!

So I posted on the DVC thread to ask if anyone knew when HKDL released their dates for reservations through DVC. One of the posters suggested I rent my points out and use the money to pay the room in cash. For the same number of points, I'd be able to cover the room and have plenty left over. You can see where this is going. So I got to wondering how many more points would I need to rent out in order to cover the other hotel rooms too  Lo and behold, I had enough to rent out and still keep a stash for any last minute getaways. On Sunday I sent in the form to David's DVC rentals. Today I received the request for 389 of the 400 points I was offering up. I made the reservations and already received 70% of the money, I'll get the other 30% once the guests check in to their reservations. That was easy!

You have no idea how stupid I feel for not thinking of this myself. :upsidedow So, moral of the story is, sometimes there are other avenues to saving on a vacation besides credit cards. I will be very happy now to use these upcoming hotel stays to either earn 3x on my CSR or make the bonus spend on a new credit card with no FTF.

Wait what? Comcast? Gotta check it out though this quarter Comcast is 5x on Freedom anyway.

We have no state taxes. Thanks for the idea though!
