I love credit cards so much!

Hi guys, I need some sophomore advice. I opened the SW plus and premiere cards last June to earn the CP and am ready to close them well before the AF's hit. Do I have to call Chase to close these accounts? I also have the CSP which I want to pc to the CFU. I assume I have to call as well?

For the SW plus and premiere cards, wait until you get the bonuses. Then call to cancel. They will refund your fees and you keep the points. I just had the bonus post on one of my SW cards- calling on Monday to cancel.

Just wanted to say on the Sw cards you should consider waiting to close until after the anniversary points post. They do not pull the points back if you cancel the card, and they will remove the AF I believe within 30 days.

You have the CSR, CSP, and CIP, right? Don’t forget to have DH use your referral for the CIP! When he gets his own CIP, he should be able to “Combine Points” by entering your CSR’s account number and last name, since I’m guessing you two share an address (in the same household).

You may get an error if you already have someone else (even yourself) in your household or another card set to combine points into your CSR. You should be able to get around this by setting DH’s CIP to transfer to your CSP or CIP instead, then transferring the points from your CSP or CIP to your CSR.
Thanks great memory. So I also have the sw bus. What’s the possibility that I can get approved for the CIC? Feel like I’m missing out on so many rewards for all our grocery and gas spend. (Giant, Harris teeter, Trader Joe’s, bjs are the stores most shipped at) ( bjs, wawa, shell are mostly where we get gas)

I would wait to close the sw cards closer to June when the annual fee will hit that’s way you can tell them it’s Bc you don’t want the fee. I think closing now will look like you just wanted the bonus. How long have you had the csp? You can secure message to product change or call.

Checking in from the Palazzo and I think we just found our new place to stay in Vegas. I used 60,000ihg points from the increased sign up bonus on the ihg card that came out last year. Our suite is 750 sq ft which is half the size of our house.

This has to be one of my best redemptions to date as rates are over $300 a night. This place is total luxury and I’m so happy to see where points can take me. We were upgraded to strip view because of my Platinum status with ihg by virtue of having the ihg credit card.

Had no idea Palazzo was an IHG property. This is really good info....thanks for sharing.

Thank you @Lain for the explanation regarding using gift cards. Like @brownhaired_girl I feel like I have known that but it helped so much to have it spelled out! Why I am using my SPG Amex at Petco when I could be using a gift card bought for 5 times UR!

Which brings me to my question: husband has CIP. I want to get one and (fingers crossed can get approved for one next month when under 5/24). Me getting the CIP makes more sense since it is the bigger bonus plus I can use DH’s referral. BUT practically speaking the Chase Ink Cash with the 5 times rewards at office supply stores would be a lot better. So any thoughts on the likelihood of DH getting approved for the Chase Ink Cash when he already has the CIP? If you don’t count the fact that he got the CIP last May and a business Amex this fall he is 4/24. Only Chase cards are the CIP, Reserve, and Disney. (Other two are AU’s...my bad).

There is not a ton of spend going onto his CIP right now, but I don’t mind keeping it as I like the phone insurance etc. Also, another bad part with any of his cards is that since his identity was stolen last year (and it came to light with Chase when the thief got into his account, changed our address, and ordered a phone), so I worry that they might not approve the other business card since they will want an explanation of why he wants it.

Hopefully that all makes some sense. Sorry for rambling. I dread having him/us talk to Chase again about a new card but I also hate his potential earning points going to waste. Any thoughts are appreciated.

I don't know the likelihood of being approved for a CIC when you already have a CIP. I'd guess it's the same or similar to being approved for any other second business card from Chase. Just try it; it's a 30k UR signup bonus. I have the CIP and was recently approved for the Marriott Biz. I see plenty of data points of people getting approved for second Chase business cards without having to call in. I've even seen third and fourth cards, but usually they have EINs or legitimate businesses and might've have to call in. I'm also guessing that by your third or fourth business card, you're about at the end of the amount of credit Chase is willing to extend to you (you can move credit from business line to business line, but not personal to business). So if you want any other Chase co-branded business card, consider that.

For @kmc8826, DH's fraud scare may complicate things. His credit profile may be flagged so if he applies, Chase may have him call in for verification. Since DH got the CIP in May, and this year is already moving too fast, why not have DH refer you for your own CIP soon, you get the CIP, and he product changes his CIP to CIC (maybe give some time for the CIP referral bonus to post). He'd be close enough to a year that I wouldn't worry too much. Just say he hasn't been getting much use out of it and thinks the bonus categories in the CIC would be a better fit (true). He could order you an "employee card," which shouldn't affect your */24 count, so you can use the CIC at office supply stores.

As a point of clarification on my earlier questions about getting DH into Player 2 mode, removing him as an AU on my CSP and CF and having it taken off his credit reports will NOT change the fact that he's 3/24, right? Just want to make sure I have my ducks in a row before I SM Chase.

I need some help determining which card(s) to get next. I’ve been playing this game wrong with AU instead of 2 player mode and trying to get it cleaned up. I’ve requested I be removed as AU on Chase Freedom and CSP. Once I am removed, I’ll be at 4/24. My wife is at 3/24.

My top priority is the SW CP, as we are planning on Hawaii in summer 2019 when SW is flying there. We already have the SW Premiere in my wife’s name and me as AU (more than 2 years old).

The other card I have my eye on is the CIP, which we do not currently own. I like the idea of 5x on our outrageous AT&T bill, along with being more strategic with gift card purchases.

So, we’ve got 3 open slots between us immediately with it being close to another year before any more slots open up. Does her already having the SW Premiere complicate this at all? Is it as easy as her applying for the SW Plus and Business to get our CP and me applying for the CIP? Should we cancel the Premiere once the new SW cards are open?

Is this the best strategy or does anyone have any better ideas to maximize points or different cards? Thanks in advance for the help.

For those who have the SPG Business card, how long did it take to actually get the card? Does it appear on your Amex personal website, or are Amex business cards separate? And lastly is it weird that I got an "approved" on the webpage after application but an email that says "we're reviewing your application ?"

Can you remind me what cards DH has opened in the last 24 months (sorry, I'm pretty good remembering DISers' cards, not so much their partners').

The issue is when Chase's system checks DH's credit report for accounts opened in the last 24 months, it'll see card accounts on which he's the primary cardholder as well as card accounts on which he's just an authorized user. I don't think the system distinguishes between the two and automatically counts AU accounts towards */24. If that happens and pushes DH to 5/24 or over, DH could call Chase recon to speak with a human, say something to the effect of "I am not responsible for payment of those cards" and ask that AU cards not count. Removing DH as an AU on your cards should remove reference of those cards from his credit report so they're not counted in the first place.

Took me almost 7 business days before I got mine and of course, they told they can’t expedite. I was prompted to add it to my existing personal login, but when I tried to go through with it, it failed, so I just created a separate log in. Painless. And finally yes, email and website status don’t seem to align. So all normal situations in your case.

If I recall, your CF is more than 2 years old? No need to remove him as an AU. The CSP is less than 2 years remove him, it doesn’t count anyways but it might save you a recon phone call later. I don’t know if it automatically gets removed from his credit report, when I had myself removed from DH’s CSP I was transferred to the credit department where I had to request they remove it from my report

Just another dp. Like @SBWB48, my SPG Biz took a little over a week to arrive; couldn't expedite. I decided to set up my SPG Biz under a separate online account to make it easier to add offers.

Yes, as @SouthFayetteFan mentioned, there are referral links for $250 credit once you spend 1k on the BCP. I am a huge fan of that card but it only works for some. You really need to spend at least $3,200 a year at a grocery store to make it worth it (which can include GC's). If the Amex plat works better, go for that! You need to do what works best for you and getting your fam to the vacations you have planned. Is it 1-year to Aulani now??

Texas...sigh, it's my home state and where all my family lives. Nothing set in stone though. We are open!

Between dues (GC's) and groceries I will max it out half way through the year, with the Kroger 4 x's on Disney GC's I think I would be getting around 15% off the dues. I can never quite wrap my head around the points valuation, I think Lain's suggestion would rival the BCP option but would take more work on my part. Half of us are headed back in March (split stay AKL & BWV) and BWV for F&W in November. Because no one that was on the plane with us in Dec will likely ever get back on a plane with Maci (my youngest DD's 18 month old) again, the Aulani plans have changed. Instead of the whole family going in Jan2019 and staying in the insanely awesome 3 bdrm OF grandvilla for a week, I'm going for 2 weeks in a 1 bdrm. Hopefully if I have enough vaca time this year I will be chasing the Northern Lights in Alaska or Canada in Dec. After that the Diser's here have me checking out ABD. No one in the family is going to be in a good place to travel with me for a long time (except for WDW of course) so I need to look for adventures that I can safely travel as a single. Texas sounds fabulous, you should at least look at adding a winter home there to your retirement/churning goals.

Not the SPG business but with the Delta business I had two different experiences. On DH’s they automatically added his to the personal account (so he has one log in with 3 cards...2 personal one business). On mine they would not let me add my business to the personal and so I did it separate. A pain to have two different log in accounts but at the same time I think I like it better for the possible Amex offer potential.

The only card DH opened in the last 24 months was the Chase Amazon card. However, I added him as an AU on my CSP and Freedom. So he still has room left for CIP and CSR, but I just didn't know if for the future the AUs would drop off his report and allow him to get additional Chase cards after CIP and CSR.

Thanks. 10 days would be ok, longer would be more problematic. I have an actual business bill due 2/24, hoping to use the card. Also have taxes and insurance I'm "saving" for this card. I'll take it for our Dolphin stay end of month also.

A bit off topic, but Undercover Tourist still has WDW tix at 2017 prices. They expire 12/2018. We almost certainly wouldn't be able to use them by then, would have to trade them in at WDW and pay the difference. Is this even worth the savings? And how would you make FP if you need to upgrade your tickets?

Thank you! Probably just a product change is a simpler way to handle it. Yes with the fraud alert either way we will need to call. When he talks to Chase he even has a secret code he has to give before they will do anything. (The person who was able to change the address on the account even had his usual personal information like mom maiden name). Maybe instead of trying to get the business card I will just refer him to get a Freedom Unlimited. With my referrral bonus that is only 5000 points less than just getting the CIC. We will still need to talk to them but should be less drama. That is good to hear about the “employee card.” I wasn’t certain how that worked.

IIRC, you opened the CSP and CF in 9/17 and 10/17, respectively? Yes, those would automatically count towards his */24 count, putting him at 3/24 with the Chase Amazon card. He could apply for the CIP now even without removing the AUs, which would not add to his */24 and leaves him at 3/24. He could even double dip the CSR and CSP, which would put him at 5/24 if you don't have those AUs removed. Those two AUs probably won't "drop off" on their own until 9/19 and 10/19, so at some point you'll want to get them removed.
