I love credit cards so much!

That's not a choice in settings. iPhone 6s.
When I search settings all I find is wallet >Touch ID & passcode.
I feel dumb, but cant find anything on DH's phone nor mine.
On DS and my iPhone 6s, it is the setting under iTunes & App Store, Wallet & Apple Pay. Do you had all of the iOS updates installed?

Here's the apple support page for adding cards, maybe something there will help.
https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT205630

Other than not having a TouchID or passcode setup on the phone, which I thought of after I posted, I'm stumped.
I read thru that yesterday. I hadn't updated to the latest iOS so I did that yesterday. Before the update, there was + in Wallet but it said to add an app, not a credit card. So I update. Now no + to add anything. I might have to go to Apple Store but it's currently -10 outside, so no shopping malls now.

Personally I wouldn’t be doing this if I hadn’t started using YNAB (You Need A Budget - budgeting software) and gotten to the point where I know all of my expenses are covered in advance, all of my credit card charges are accounted for in the budget, and I can set every single bill to Autopay so I don’t have to worry about it. Otherwise I’d never be able to keep track of all of these cards and be sure I can pay them in full and on time every month. And I don’t have nearly the amount of cards that I know some of you have!

OT- but do you use YNAB 4 still or new YNAB? I was trying to transition to new YNAB on 1/1/18 so I wouldn't have to manually input transactions anymore, but I am not liking it much. Aside from a bit of different format, CC different, reimbursed expenses different, the transactions import really slowly.

Ugh! That moment you realize your SIL has applied for 4 Chase SW cards without having any idea what she's doing.

SIL texted me yesterday letting me know she went ahead and submitted applications for her for the SW Plus and BIL for the SW Premier so they can get the points to book their flights for our March Disney trip. We had discussed this briefly before, but the convo was tabled as she didn't really express much interest in knowing how it all works. I knew I should have explained in more detail even if she didn't show that much interest. Maybe it would have kept her from applying so quickly without knowing enough info. 1st mistake

I was busy when she sent me this text, so I replied with a quick message telling her she should have done them both for her or both for BIL and that I'd explain more as soon as I was free. We were getting together at MIL house yesterday for lunch, so I hoped she'd put on the brakes and wait for me to talk to her over there. 2nd mistake.

She went ahead and applied for the second card for both of them without waiting for me to explain and offer any referral links. Her response later, "Sorry, guess I jumped the gun on that." When I asked her about setting up their RR accounts, she said "Oh won't they take care of all that when the cards come in." I really want to bang my head against the wall right now thinking of all the missed opportunities here......missed referrals.....but even more so, missed points for them to get closer to CP. Two CP would really benefit them as they are a family of 4. She applied for all 4 cards under the 40K offers. Wondering if she might be able to SM Chase to get more.

Just had to get that out where someone would understand. LOL.

:mic::badpc:

Interesting note on my SWA plus card...I called to cancel b/c it's not worth the $69 fee,and then didn't b/c I took the offer of an extra $70 credit to my statement covering the fee....(why not,it's free to keep another year now) that's actually my first retention offer....usually they let me go without a fuss lol

I got the same exact retention offer tonight as well. I want to cancel my business card too, but figured I'd call back tomorrow to do that. Thought they might put a big black "X" next to my name if I cancel 2 cards in one phone call - lol. I'm a little paranoid.

Brilliant! So first, Apple Pay should work at Costco. Also can buy a Costco GC with my Discover to use for gas.
Now I've got to get Apple Pay to work on my phone, so far I've been unable.

Apple pay question for you savvy folks out there . . . Hubby has a Freedom card, but I do not. He already has Apply Pay set up on his phone with his Freedom as default to take advantage of the 5% this quarter. Can I set up Apply Pay on my phone and link his Freedom so that I can charge his card via Apple Pay. Would that work or is there something to prevent the same card as being listed as a payment method on 2 different phones?

I can barely keep up with this thread! My head is spinning!!!!!

Thx SFF. I just double checked and I'm actually only at 2/24 (Sept 16 and July 17). The CSP is July, so I wasn't even six months in when I tried (and was denied) a PC to a Freedom. Based upon being 2/24 I'll get the Freedom as I spend plenty on Gas and have no cards that provide rewards. Also gives me a bit of time to do a referral to tWife for a CSP after her CSR is PC'ed [I'll use your link SFF, you and others here have helped me many times over; thanks]

When you say MiddleName LastName; you don't use your first name? Is that okay to do?

New Questions:

1. Is there an easy way to tell when you opened your cards, beside credit reports?
2. Is there an easy way to tell where an airline flies directly to from an airport? We are in Detroit, DTW, and I'd get Southwest cards except they don't seem to fly direct to where I go.

EDIT: Well, got a 30 day wait notice. I'm guessing my available credit is too much as they asked if I wanted to include other income. I assume they will take credit from other cards as they gave me crazy limits on all my Chase cards.

EDIT 2: I love that CreditKarma sends me an email anytime someone checks my credit. Another great tool I learned in this thread.
As long as you were comfortable using a 5/24 slot on the Freedom then it's a good decision for you :)

Regarding the MiddleName LastName thing - this really depends on your comfort level. Tons of people advise ordering a card using a nickname, or with a dog's name. I like to go middle last because that could be a nickname I'm called and I did once ask Chase a long time ago if I went by my middle name and wanted to change my card to that rather than my legal name how to do that and they said just order an authorized user card. Soooo right or wrong I stick with that one ;)

For card opening dates I use the free Experian tracking service (not the pay one) and it updates once a month which works for me just to verify accounts and inquiries.

Southwest has this neat interactive route map: https://www.southwest.com/flight/routemap_dyn.html
From Detroit they fly nonstop to: Las Vegas, Phoenix, Denver, Dallas, St. Louis, Chicago, Nashville, Atlanta, Tampa, Orlando, Baltimore.
I know nothing about other airlines lol sooooo not your guy on that question otherwise.

EDIT: You could try to call and recon your Freedom card. First it'd be nice to know if you're approved or what your status is though...Did you try calling the automated status line to see what message they give you? It's been awhile but I think you call 1-800-432-3117 and follow the prompts (I think you'll hit #, 3, 1 to get to app status). Tell us what that message says and that can give you an indication on whether you're approve or not.

I transitioned to new YNAB when it came out, because I had a really hard time keeping up with manually entering my transactions. I have had some issues lately with imports (mainly that it keeps disconnecting from my CapOne bank accounts and I can’t figure out why) but overall I like the new version. Disconnecting issues aside, I find my transactions usually import within a couple days of the transaction date. Weekends/holidays sometimes make it take longer. I do remember it taking me a bit to get used to the way the new version handles CCs but now that I’m used to it I like it. I don’t deal with reimbursements so don’t know about any differences there.

Did they raise the subscription fee yet? I got an email about that but it didn’t pertain to me (because I transitioned under the $45/year for life deal) so I didn’t pay attention to the details.

Thanks for the tip @SouthFayetteFan. You weren’t kidding when you said you know Southwest best. I do have $300 worth of Amex airline credits to spend on Southwest, so a cash fare isn’t a big deal to me at such low prices while I try to figure out Southwest’s cards and RR program.
Haha - well between work travel, personal travel, and helping my parents and friends book trips I have experience booking hundreds of round trips paying with points, gift cards, cash, and combinations of all of the above over the past Decade. Actually me and Southwest began our relationship one decade ago yesterday lol (no joke)! I'll PM you on one other crazy idea I have for you but I don't want to clog this thread up with Southwest booking minutia.

I think since I normally sit down and manually input once a day for the most part that is why it annoys me that they take so long.
I think it is $7 a month, but I am on the free trial. I doubt I am going to continue with it...just stick with YNAB 4. It is free and allows me to roll dh’s reimbursed expenses from one month to the next easily if we are waiting on the expense check but the month is ending.

Would anybody here be interested in the $50 Delta Gift Card I'm putting on Raise.com? I plan to do it tonight or tomorrow at 10% off ($45). I don't want to sell directly or anything (too much of a hassle and don't want anything to get awkward) - I would just let you know via PM when I put it up so you get first chance to buy it.

This is from my Delta $50 statement credit on the Biz Gold Card. I have no use for the gift card but figured I could buy it, sell it for $45 and at least get that value out of it, haha!

I say this with much DIS love, ok? ...I'd stay the heck out of it as much as you can at this point. She is not cut out for this. What if the extra eyes on her account evaluating it for the referral results in Chase catching a red flag on their accounts that you know nothing about? They'll blame you. I'd go the "too bad about the referral offer but yay for flight points!" route. It just... It sucks she did that to you referral wise but most people just don't care like we do. As for CP, if you're not willing to put in the effort you don't deserve it. Gosh, I'm harsh today but that's how our game is played. She had an advantage in that you offered her the resources of knowledge and advice and all she had to do was pause but for her own personal reasons she chose not to take you up on that. Her call. Let it go as the song says :) (I've had a fam mem do this sort of thing to (not quite as spectacularly as your's did potentially missing out on a CP, just the referral part!) but it hurts.) Hopefully a stranger out there picks up the slack and uses your link someday!)

Definitely appreciate the insight. I'm not really trying to go after the referrals for DH or for her at this point. I'd just like to help her out to try to get CP a bit easier because I know how much it would help them be able to fly with their kiddos. My previous post was purely frustration at how this all played out, but I do still want to help her. Honestly she's usually the most level headed of the in-laws (MIL and FIL still think I'm sending their son into a downward spiraling abyss of credit card debt and get twitchy eyes when we are talking about our trips booked using points and/or getting new cards in) and she understands all the time and effort I put into all this. I really think they decided to book the WDW trip with us on such a whim that she got all caught up in the "what ifs" when they discussed flying versus driving. She let the excitement of the possibility of not having to pay cash for their flights get to her head. We discussed it all at dinner tonight and she really gets how much she should have waited for a thorough explanation before jumping on 4 apps. I told her not to do ANYTHING ELSE and to let me know when she gets the first card in, so we can go over what she needs to do. She's ok with trying to SM for a match on the cards. I figured asking for the referral would probably be overkill and I don't want to draw more attention than necessary to their accounts, so we'll just try the match on the bonus and see what happens.

I was helping out a family member who was using a debit card for everything when they had a Cap One Quicksilver card that earns 1.5% cash back. We got on the subject of points/miles and credit cards. I explained why using debit cards was a bad idea in any situation and that they were better protected when it came to fraud by using a credit card and could also be earning cash back for their purchases on their QS card. I explained that they should treat their credit card like a debit card. Make a purchase that they have the money to pay for with the credit card, go home get online and send a payment to the credit card from their bank for that amount. The family member agrees this is a great idea and we go our separate ways. Fast forward a few months later and we are together again and eating out at dinner. I see this family member pull out their debit card to pay the bill. I asked why they weren't using their QS card. This person has the unmitigated gall to tell me that they tried it "my way" and wound up racking up credit card debt on that card and were trying to pay it down. Uhm, no! You did not try it "my way" if you had, you would have never bought anything you didn't have the money to pay for. If your were paying your credit card from your checking account right away this would not have happened. I explained "my way" and you chose "your way" so don't blame me. Ugh!

Wow! That is crazy!! It's nuts how people will listen to what you say to them about the dos and don'ts of this game, yet only apply part of it and think it will work out for them. Thank goodness this particular SIL is not one I think would ever carry a balance on a credit card, as she and BIL don't do that now with the cards they have. BIL is very wary about their finances and would never be ok with them paying interest on a card. We talked at length tonight about how carrying a balance would negate the benefits she would get from this in the first place. She and BIL are very financially stable, so I'm really not too worried about them doing that. Also, I honestly don't see her blaming me for any repercussions of how they handle their cards going forward, whether the initial ideas came from me or not. Now, my other SIL.....that's a whole other story. Same with several of my friends who have showed an interested in this hobby since we've been traveling this year. Those people don't get much from me in the way of explanations. I direct them to websites/blogs for the most part and just answer very generalized questions they may have.

you only need ios 8 for apple pay. ios 9 for discover card. You have your touch ID set up correct? It will only work with TouchID

it should work. It will probably txt the account holder for authorization... let us know your DP!! :D

This is my dad. He has two cards. That he has had for I'm sure more that 20 years. His mind is set that he could not possibly need or want any more. I have on occasion thought about discussing with him the possibility of my applying for cards for him and managing them myself, but the amount of discussion that would involve would be so not worth whatever points might be gained.

My dad is the same way! Two cards is plenty. I have tried more than once to tell my mom that she should get her own card in her own name...but they have just two cards and all my mom is as an AU. They want Delta miles and so I tried to convince them (even knowing I was wasting my breath) to get the Amex SPG when it was at the 35,000. On the off chance they would listen I even sent the referral bonus. No luck. Same when the platinum went to 70K. In fact, with the recent Experian breach they actually went into overdrive and instead of just doing a temporary fraud alert (which I recommended as that is what I had to do with DH and his identity being stolen) they instead did a complete credit freeze...which isn’t even easy to do.

It sounds like a lot of you are in similar situations with friends/families who just don’t listen or care. It is hard to not be a little insulted. I think that is why this thread is so active and dynamic and why the referral thread on reddit has been so popular. At last you can put your referral up for someone who might actually use it!!!

Yes! BTDT. So frustrating. I've had friends and family listen to me go on about the cards and their benefits and tell them if they decide to apply, to let me know cause I have a referral link that will earn me some points too. One of my aunts literally applied at my house after listening to me talk about the CIP and FORGOT to use my referral  AND then, one of my best friends decided to jump into this game cause I shared all about the CSR and CSP...she had her hubby apply but forgot to have him go through my link...Oh well, it's not end of the world stuff but would have been nice. I cannot apply for a card without using a referral link if I can. I much prefer to help someone out but not all realize how that works.

So when you go to generate a referral link now for Southwest - the facebook option is GONE and it only generates 40k links. This whole thing might have been a strange mistake on Chase's part. I'm not trying to start a conspiracy/panic here but I assume Chase could shut down those 50k links at any time so if getting a 50k Southwest Plus or 50k Southwest Premier card is important to you - I'd move quickly. (Of course I also know nothing and they could go up to 60k next week too hahaha). Good Luck everybody - I find myself saying this a lot lately: make the choice that's best for you!

Here's my head-smacking moment: the one person I have truly referred for a credit card - my MIL, who got the CSR - didn't use my referral link because I totally forgot about it! I got so caught up in making sure she understood all of the details about the high AF and the benefits, and making sure that she really thought it was a good decision for her, and I was sort of surprised that she really did think it was a good decision, and even though I was right there with her when she applied, it didn't occur to me to have her use a referral link until she got approved, and then I remembered . . . I guess I can see how people who are not experienced credit-card appliers could overlook the additional aspect of the referral link.

Right! Which is why I don't sweat it. I know I started churning years ago with just SW and I never even thought about applying through a referral link, even though I have many friends and family with SW cards. It just never occurred to me. Now it does! And I will go out of my way to try to benefit someone else :)
