I love credit cards so much!

Wow, this thread moves fast!

I'm almost finished with the MS on my CSR so am trying to decide which card to go for next. I'm 4/24 with Chase, so am leaning towards the Marriott card. I already have CSR, CSP, and Freedom, and will probably PC the CSP to a Freedom Unlimited since I now have (and plan to keep) CSR. Is the Marriott card still worth getting even with the upcoming merger with SPG?

My other question is about the Ink cards; do they fall under the 5/24 rule, or are they separate because they're business cards? The 80,000-point bonus on the CIP is tempting but $5,000 in 3 months is a high MS for us to reach.

I also want to get my wife to start applying to some cards of her own so we can double up on some of these sign up bonuses & credits, but am not sure where she should start. She hasn't applied for a card of her own in several years (since we stopped working) but is AU on a handful of my cards. I'd have to pull her credit report to see where she is on 5/24, but my gut is we should start her with either her own Freedom, or CSP. Thoughts? Advice? Should I remove her as AU on my cards before she applies for her own?

just because your at 4/24 doesnt always mean you HAVE to get another card. :] you should wait until u have a trip in the works, maybe apply for card then.
Ink cards are under 5/24 rule.
If you have no travel plans, id probably go for CSP, make bonus, downgrade. Apply for CFU if you qualify for the 30k bonus, then when travel plans start coming in, CSR. I would highly suggest remove from AU.

Should I remove her as AU on my cards before she applies for her own?

Someone correct me if I am wrong, but I think it only matters if she was added within 24 months, because then it could count as one of the 5 that are allowed. But it sounds like she's not close to 5/24 and/or she was added a while ago, so I think that there's no reason to remove her.

WoW glad to see there are people properly using credit cards here, I'm still miffed I missed out on the CSR 100k sign up because of the 5/24 .... but at least I have manged to stack Membership rewards high and deep.

Yes it only matters if it's within 24 months..no need to remove an AU if it's been over that.

Does anyone know if a charge at a United club in an airport would trigger the Amex airline credit?

I don't do business so please research this out but I wanted to say something in case you were about to put that 5th app in! I think (NOT SURE) 5/24 applies to business cards (so you have to be under in order to be approved) but it doesn't count towards 5/24 (could still get another personal chase card after the ink). Again, please research this out because this is totally off the top of my head & I'm sorry I don't have time to check. (Website doctorofcredit is really helpful in these cases.)

Nice, I never manage to stack my UR points too high because I find them the easiest to use, my MR points build up quickly since I started using the EDP

Calfan, I'm not sure but worst case you can call them and say it was for lounge access. I'm still just buying two $100 AA gift cards every year on my Platinum

Thanks! I've got United lounge access via another credit card, but I was thinking about cocktails purchased in the lounge or something. Had I been more savvy, I wouldn't have selected United for my airline for the credit. Definitely planning to change it to Southwest in January and just buy gift cards. In the meantime, I've got $150 left of the United credit for this year to use up.

Yeah I wouldn't worry about it, I'm guessing it will just come off automatically but I've had to call them 2 years ago and they were very nice and didn't question that an odd amount was for lounge access (they know what's going on)

Heck I'm pretty sure food in the lounge counts even if you tell the truth

is there a particular number I need to call to cancel a chase card? I'm thinking of canceling my chase southwest premier, so i can reapply for it to get my CP I went ahead and got the plus, so have those 60,000 pts, need only 33,000 more to get the CP, and was going to go for the business, but I'm thinking I really want to wait and get the Ink instead, so will go for the premier instead as its been over 3yrs since I go the points on it I'm at 3/24. or do people think I should just get the business, $1000 is a whole lot easier to get to than $3000 is.

haha, i dont. On my asian trip, i saw a lot of MR usage that i could be doing... but no, no MR here...

Call or SM(probably) would work.

Number on the back of your credit card ought to get it done for you. If you don't want to talk to a person try a SM, that's how I recently closed my Citi AA card.

Thank you all so much! I was just instantly approved for both SW cards. To be honest, I would've been happy with just one for 60k points. Scary I haven't applied for a card since the 90's :scared:, but couldn't resist the points and attempt at CP.

That's awesome! I am always too scared to try that close together.

pretty sure once you spend your points that's it...but she can use them better going forward! Listen, I know a few things about this stuff...been doing it for a few years now..... one thing is you are always learning something new (hence my last few posts lol) -two,things are always changing, and fast, three, it's good to be inspired by others' stories about their travel for less success, but it's important to keep your own goals in your mind while working toward them. And yes, it happens to us all, we all have moments where we could have gotten more points/used them better/missed a bonus/paid a fee etc etc. It happens to us all. I am still finessing my organizing skills with all the cc's I have to juggle. (My latest idea is card pages, and my notebook list of all cc's for me and DH,when they were opened,AF dates, a running list of which ones get used so they rotate a little bit to avoid closure- I like having them all in their own little card slot so I can see what I have easily)

Definitely always learning something new with this as well as this will be an important lesson. Since reading this thread I have started to make notes of things as well, such as my cc's along with their point info, af info and application dates...

No, never. She could call the number on the back of her card & ask Judy to make sure.

ROFL Autocorrect on my phone! that's supposed to read *just ask* but it was too funny to fix. Guess it's time to have a little discussion with Siri about who this Judy person is!

LOL...Yes she did call the number on the card and they said they would look into it to see if anything can be done about it...Not sure where that will go...

Thanks for the input!

I have a question about the Chase Freedom. Right now I have the regular Freedom. The only category that I ever might really max out is groceries. We don't eat out much, maybe $100 a month, gas maybe $100 a month so when those are the categories thats only $300 maybe that quarter. Groceries can be maxed out.

Thinking about moving to the unlimited instead. Starting in Aug we will be paying over 500 a week in daycare. I always charge it and pay it off at the end of the week so it won't be an issue paying it off every month.

Can I just change to the unlimited and still keep the record of having the acct since 2011? Is it possible to have both?

We won't be traveling until Feb 2019 at the earliest so I am thinking of racking up the Chase points and then applying for the Sapphire Reserve once it gets closer to travel time and be able to use all the points for travel.

on booking at Disney thru UR portal- anyone know about the swan, and resort fees when booking using points? I know if I use my SPG points, I still pay a resort fee of $28- how does this work for Swan?
