Geico was who we switched from. Our price was $50 less but way less coverage too. Our teen is driving one our older cars (2005) but it's a Honda Civic with very low miles and in perfect condition. Value on it is still too good I think to drop comprehensive.

I never got a good price from Geico so I don't even bother getting a quote anymore. I know they're not in every state but the best price to coverage for us is esurance... and they definitely take CC, I think they even prefer it being an online agency. But I don't know how they are with high-risk like teen drivers. For what it's worth, 20+ years ago when I got my license at 16 we were with Allstate (so 6 month policies only) and I recall it being 800 ish every 6 mos just for me. That was painful when you worked part time 6.25 /hr. Soon as I could get off that policy I did.
(and I laugh now, but was annoyed then, when my dad made me get my license at 16 and then complained/made noise when the insurance policy shot up :confused3. which he paid until I finished HS and got a job, as that seemed only fair since he made me do it )

So your teen added $1,600 a year!!?? That sounds outrageously high! Is that normal in your state? Wow! Our coverage w/ State Farm adds on both a good student discount + an accident free discount. I think it was an extra $1,000 when we added our first teen. He was 17 vs 16 when he got his license which helped a little.

Editing . . . who needs a car anyway? Buy your teen a BIKE!! Kidding . . . sorta . . .

Been through this with 3 kids. Thankfully they are grown now! The first was the cheapest - she added very little to price because our agent advised us about adding her first to our policy than adding her to her own older car when her dad bought it for her.

The second was my son and it was high high high!

Ok, kids were out of school all week last week due to teacher strike so decided to take a weekend trip to see family on Friday. School was still out Monday so stayed an extra day. It has taken me 2 days to finally get caught up on this thread! And kids finally went back to school today after 9 days out!

I have decided to go with sPG biz. Hoping I can meet that 7K spend. Can anyone remind me if there is things I should NOT use it for, besides the things posted today (yesterday?). Specifically wondering if medical (dental) ok. I thought I remember someone saying not to put that on a business card. And can anyone tell me what they put for estimated monthly spend? It is making put at least $1000 for revenue. I am thinking if I need to spend $7k in first 3 months then I should at least put $3k/month?

I've been putting dental on my SPG biz Amex no problem.

That's fine to charge on a biz card, the prob is if the dentist takes Amex. I put $2K in revenue.

I pay $560/year for Geico but it’s just for me. BF just added his 16 year old daughter and his policy went up $1500/year.

I still can’t wait for dd to drive! Two more years until she can get herself to swim practice.

You could probably put her in a cab every day to swim practice for less than the additional insurance $$ - ha.

Our teen just got added and she's almost 18yo. Idk why it's so high :( We had Geico and it shot up which is what caused us to shop around. We realized how little insurance we had considering we now have a high risk teen on the roads. We were able to get a lot more coverage and only $50 more per 6 mos. So, I guess the $1600 year for a teen is normal?? I think CO does have higher car insurance rates. You know, everyone here is a pot head lol?!?

Ohmygosh I love Costco in HI! We load up on all the Macadamia stuff, my father goes nuts in the Hawaiian shirt section, and found better pineapples at the one in Kauai than we did at the farmer's markets. And icing on the cake is the Costco gas station! Didn't know about the package stuff, will have to keep an eye out for that next time we go (nothing on the books now, but I'm forever a travel optimist).

We stopped at the Maui Costco a few years back from the Disney Cruise. We stocked up on so much stuff and brought
it back on the ship. Im not even a drinker but that had some amazing premixed rum cocktail we got.

Funny thing is while we were there I saw MANY other people from the ship shopping :teeth:

I've read people are doing this now...having their kids take cabs...it would be cheaper in many cases I'm guessing.

The estimated monthly spend isn't required. I left it blank and got approved.

DoesNyone else have issues with Gyft cards taking up to 24 HRs to process because awaiting approval from card issuer or something? I wanted to grab some extra stuff at sams just now and went in to buy another Walmart gift card and it gave me the message again....grrr...so I just cancelled it and lost 200 Potential points. I wasn’t surprised yesterday when that was my first gift card purchase but was super annoyed to see it happen again today.

When i was growing up My dad said you can get a car when YOU can pay for your own insurance.
So i got a job and while others were driving sooner i had to wait until i was 18 and could afford it.

I thought this was good enough for our kids but my husband said nooo he doesn't want them working
while in school so they can concentrate blah blah blah.

So when that high insurance bill come in.......I just hand it over:rotfl2:

I'd smoke it too if I had to pay an additional $1,600 for car insurance - LOL.

So I've been stalking my SPG Biz card online hoping to see when it'll get here. The SPG number is now populated (yea!) and when I check the replacement card section instead of "pending" under shipping address it has my actual address. Does this mean it's on it's way?? It's coming USPS so that'll add a few days, I hoping this meaning it's been shipped.

Welp, so much for my patience to use ExpertFlyer for the next month to find a biz saaver flight on AA from CA to NOLA... Still waiting for the flight out but booked my return trip today when I checked United on my own and found an economy saver seat on United for 12.5K miles (I don't even have a UA credit card!) so I jumped. I had 10,600 in my UA account most of which had been sitting there for years so I transferred 2K from UR (went instantly, just logged out of UA and back in and they were there, first time transferring to UA), paid $140 for fees and upgraded legroom (I love my extra legroom, at almost 6 feet I just do and is why I was watching for biz saaver seats on AA because you can't pay to upgrade econ award tickets to extra legroom seats on AA). One way down, one to go! Loved being able to transfer 2K UR in order to snag that award ticket!

I was just joshing snugglebug a bit. 99% of the time people will shoot themselves in the foot trying that sort of thing but snugglebug is threading the 1% successfully at this point. We're very blunt with people that it usually doesn't work but I'm also acknowledging the small percent who do make it work and am happy to see them making connections here as they might be able to help each other out in ways the rest of us can't :)
absolutely!

We have 4 cars and 4 drivers - a 20 year old DS + a 17 year old DD. The two cars the kids drive are OLD and worth very little, so we've removed comprehensive from those 2 cars. I still pay over $3K/year with State Farm. That doesn't include our umbrella policy. I priced out Erie and they came in at $1,000 MORE!! I probably should price shop a few more insurance companies. Maybe Geico? I know pricing varies greatly by state. It FEELS like we pay a lot, but perhaps not relatively speaking.
try Liberty mutual- in our house we have 3 cars/ drivers, home ins. and umbrella policy...we pay 3k or a bit more yearly at this point....
