I love credit cards so much!

My dh just changed our insurance to Farmer's and our car portion is going through Bristol. Anyone heard of them. Had to pay the new premium this morning. They don't take CC or checks. Only EFT. Well, they would take a cc but added $60 and they said a check fee (I was thinking plastiq) would cost even more. What in the world!?!
I sure hope you saved a ton of money on the rate...cuz if he made this switch to save you $100 or something like that you'd probably have made more in the credit card rewards. We have our home/auto through Farmers but we pay directly on the farmer's website...not sure what the whole Bristol thing is.

Our rate went up $50 but we are getting much better coverage. We just added our teen and realized we were really under insured considering we have a teen. Apparently, Bristol is part of Farmer's. IDK...I'm highly annoyed but my dh is getting mad at me for continually asking why we can't pay this way or that way.

Well he needs to get with the program, LOL! Paying with a credit card is a super important consideration in all financial decisions, lol

Questions? Oh yes I have questions! First off welcome back:-) Leavin around
Memorial weekend for our trip. I know from experience food is very expensive
in Hawaii. Did you find any relative inexpensive places to eat? What did you guys do
for fun? I'm literally pitching pennies for "things to do" while there. It seems activites
can be expensive and i have older girls who like adventure stuff. I'm hoping for
lot of beach days.

What did you think of Costco? Do they pretty much have the same stuff as mainland
ones? We will be staying around same area as you (Westin) so how was traffic and
ease of getting around?

Did you see any interesting gift cards/discounts at their Costco? Looking at the website
i saw little.

I hope you had a good time.:-):-)

Agree. He does really well and then something like this happens. He can tell I am mad so he gets annoyed back with me...better just to let this one go. It's a 6-mo policy so we get to pay this $1500+ again in 6 mos. Having a teen driver is seriously costly! I have another teen driving in a year :(

Yikes - thanks for scaring me for when our kids are of driving age (luckily a far way off still). We're at $480 for 6 mo. for our 2 cars, lol BUT no teen driver here yet ;)

It says next payment date March 18 but I have no balance and can't figure out what date is the closing date, so I'll probably get the dollars for my next trip.

Try the activity panel on the website (forget what the app looks like). There's a drop down for "Showing" which defaults to "Activity since last statement", but it'll have the last 3 statement dates listed as options. That's your closing date.

We have 4 cars and 4 drivers - a 20 year old DS + a 17 year old DD. The two cars the kids drive are OLD and worth very little, so we've removed comprehensive from those 2 cars. I still pay over $3K/year with State Farm. That doesn't include our umbrella policy. I priced out Erie and they came in at $1,000 MORE!! I probably should price shop a few more insurance companies. Maybe Geico? I know pricing varies greatly by state. It FEELS like we pay a lot, but perhaps not relatively speaking.

@calypso726 I am addicted to cariloha sheets too!!!

I have heard that about glacier bay. If my inlaws end up coming I know they will want to do that one for that reason.

yes...I was good with 3. Adding the 4th must have tipped the scale because I feel like I chase my tail now.

I have gotten decent value booking off season, using OBB discounts, etc. Also, having a nursery has always been a big value to me and not all lines have that. My kids (all 4, even the teen) think DCL is the best ever vacation. Alaska value...not so much. LOL. Generally speaking I agree, the trend is that value is declining as prices over the whole fleet have about gotten to the point of ridiculous.

I wasn't really factoring in gift cards into my equation, so I should consider that. I have a year to collect them, so hopefully we'd see some of those 10x UR deals etc come about. I avoided GC previously because of the hassle and not wanting to be stuck with Disney dollars if we had to cancel. But who am I kidding...I'd use them at some point, likely within a year. hahaha

Well, my quote shall be here this morning from my TA. If I am not active on the thread you may need to call paramedics as I have passed out and hit my head. :headache:

I also avoided using gift cards and running here or there to get small discounts but uh...I started doing it last year.
DCL prices continue to get crazy but i love the line. I'm now always looking for ANY WAY to get the cruise cheaper.

So recap (for anyone) the only way to get the cruise cheaper is for gift card specials that pop up?

***By the way i have done a couple vgt rates also though i dont prefer because we come from West Coast
and i hate getting last minute airfare because of price or increase in miles needed.

Geico was who we switched from. Our price was $50 less but way less coverage too. Our teen is driving one our older cars (2005) but it's a Honda Civic with very low miles and in perfect condition. Value on it is still too good I think to drop comprehensive.

That doesn't seem so bad. We also have 4 cars and 4 drivers ( 19 and 16 year old). Their cars only have liability on them. I pay $386 a month - so $4632 a year.

So your teen added $1,600 a year!!?? That sounds outrageously high! Is that normal in your state? Wow! Our coverage w/ State Farm adds on both a good student discount + an accident free discount. I think it was an extra $1,000 when we added our first teen. He was 17 vs 16 when he got his license which helped a little.

Editing . . . who needs a car anyway? Buy your teen a BIKE!! Kidding . . . sorta . . .

February 21st was the last closing date! Just as gottalovepluto estimated. Thanks to both of you! We arrive at the Polynesian on March 21st which is perfect! I love free money!!!!!

I have told him we’d get way more on other lines. Not sure why, but he/we love Disney and I think he’s set on the whole Disney vacation idea. We have never cruised at all, so maybe he thinks even if cruising sucks, he’ll at least like the Disney part. :rotfl2:

This is funny. I'm not even a disney person. My kids are so that is why we took the first one cruise. Just to "check it out".
Now i'm obsessed. To the point where im disappointed the family chose Hawaii instead of another disney cruise.

One day i'm going to take another line to compare if its the actual cruise or is it just Disney cruise I love.

I think your husband will love it.

Ours added 1800 in Southern California. I thought i was going to pass out.

Ok, kids were out of school all week last week due to teacher strike so decided to take a weekend trip to see family on Friday. School was still out Monday so stayed an extra day. It has taken me 2 days to finally get caught up on this thread! And kids finally went back to school today after 9 days out!

I have decided to go with sPG biz. Hoping I can meet that 7K spend. Can anyone remind me if there is things I should NOT use it for, besides the things posted today (yesterday?). Specifically wondering if medical (dental) ok. I thought I remember someone saying not to put that on a business card. And can anyone tell me what they put for estimated monthly spend? It is making put at least $1000 for revenue. I am thinking if I need to spend $7k in first 3 months then I should at least put $3k/month?

After seeing @brownhaired_girl's pictures of her upgraded Hyatt room I think my experience at Hyatt Regency Maui will pale in comparison. But in case you are like me and seldom if ever get pixie dust like that here is how Maui went.

First, it was a cheap trip for just myself and DH. We have 3 girls 11, 9, 7 now so all our recent trips have been focused on family vacations. Specifically WDW. In fact, our last just the two of us trip was to Iceland in 2012. Our best trip was Scotland, Wales, Ireland in 2006...but that is another post.

At any rate this was a trip that was unplanned and therefore cheap using points as much as possible. Only reason we went is in September Delta had a skymiles flash sale. Roundtrip tickets across US to Alaska and Hawaii for 20,000 or 35,000 skymiles. I had the miles thanks to credit card bonuses so promptly cashed ours in for roundtrip non stop tickets from SLC to OGG. I could have done one of the other islands as well but settled on Maui. For those of you thinking of Hawaii Delta is something to keep in mind. If you could get to one of the west hub cities for Delta (SLC, SEA, LAX) there are frequent Hawaii flights. And obviously flash sales are fairly common.

I had got the Hyatt card February 2017. I got it then thinking I could use the free nights for an anniversary trip somewhere (our anniversary is February). After we booked the flights I looked into the Hyatt's in Hawaii. There are two Hyatt's on Maui but the Hyatt Regency is a lot easier to book with reward nights. I could not do it online, but was able to call and book our 2 free reward nights and then the other 5 nights with transferred UR points. I could have just booked the hotel with UR points in the Chase Portal, but once I started looking at it that the 30k something points a night through the portal were for only 20k nights in the World of Hyatt. PLUS if you book as an award night through World of Hyatt then there are no resort fees! Our only out of pocket cost to the resort was for parking every night ($20). We didn't get leis when we checked in (I guess no fee no lei) but that was not a huge deal.

Initially our nights were under two separate reservations but once we arrived that problem went away. First night arrival was about 1 am. Our first room was not too great...right over the valet parking. I couldn't help myself and went down and talked to them. We ended up getting moved the next day to an upgraded mountain view. A lot better room! A ton better with two beds a queen and a full. Also better from the balcony.

This is the look out of the hotel. We were in the tower that is left of the picture.

Checking Costco everyday I was able to get an intermediate car for $370. Not great but cars are so expensive there!

Food is expensive too so our Reserve's got used.

We went to Costco twice. Souvenirs for the girls, Hawaiian rum to drink in the room, coffee to take home all came from Costco. ALSO they had packages there in their gift card section. Maui Reef Vacations priced at $100 on the website could get gift card through Costco for $70. There was also a deal on doing a luau (sorry did not get that price). If I had it to do again and had such a late flight I might spend the first night at the Marriott that was by the airport and Costco (saving points/money), go to Costco next morning, and then onto the resort. Traffic is not great and the airport and Costco is kind of far from the resort area.

Hyatt Regency was on the beach boardwalk area. Right next to the Marriott which also was nice. At the end was the Sheraton (not as nice...I just ran through in the mornings but looked older). The entire area is really chill. February is whale watching season. We did a whale watching expedition that made me so sick that even this talk of cruises kind of makes me want to vomit. I am not a fan of the sea...a mountain girl for sure! One night walking down to whaler village for dinner a ton of whales were just off the beach.

Hope that is a little helpful. If anyone has questions please ask.
Ohmygosh I love Costco in HI! We load up on all the Macadamia stuff, my father goes nuts in the Hawaiian shirt section, and found better pineapples at the one in Kauai than we did at the farmer's markets. And icing on the cake is the Costco gas station! Didn't know about the package stuff, will have to keep an eye out for that next time we go (nothing on the books now, but I'm forever a travel optimist).

I pay $560/year for Geico but it’s just for me. BF just added his 16 year old daughter and his policy went up $1500/year.

I still can’t wait for dd to drive! Two more years until she can get herself to swim practice.
