*HHI Owners and Beach Lovers Group Thread*

Happy 30th anniversary to DHHIR!

I know we have some original owners on here!
Whatever happened to the guy who got married there? I don't know exactly where he got married, but I remember he posted a picture of him, his new wife, and the justice of the peace at the Beach House.

I'd like to take more credit for this shot, but I copied it from another site which hosts a few "love HHI" groups. I'd have to really magnify this picture to see who might still be there now. pirate:
I think the last two originals are two ladies from housekeeping.

While listening to random music on Youtube, I found this video with Mick Ayres playing his Banjo.

Mick was also known as B'Lou Crabbe to many of us. The video is from 2004 but still gives a nice overview of the resort.

Which buildings are best for a marsh view? We have a 2 BR booked. TIA!

Go to page one of this thread and scroll down to the resort map. You will see all the buildings at the resort.

Most of the rooms facing the marsh will have their balconies facing the Marsh.

Start looking at 13, all the way to the right and move left to 14, 15, 18, 22, 24, 27, 29,31.

Some views might be better than others.

Some views are Marina and some are interior but personally I enjoy them all.

To piggyback on Judique's excellent note, the best views are subject to personal interpretation.
- 13 has good views, is close to the main lodge (check in), and close to the shuttle to Beach House, as well as Shelter Cove
- 14 & 15 sit along the boardwalk and have the largest balconies--their views are recessed as the marsh is farther out but still good
- 18 is often requested and mid-distance from the main lodge and the pool--good views of water/marsh
- 22 and 24 are close to the pool, Tide Me Over, the Mercantile, the kids' playground, and have solid marsh views
- 27 and 29 are on the other side of the pool but also are close to pool, TMO, and the Mercantile--very good views
- 31 is the most requested building with excellent views of the water, Shelter Cove, fireworks, and not far from the pool
- 17 has partial views of the recessed marsh (visible from 14 and 15)

All this aside, there are no terrible views at HHI as even the interior views are relaxing and serene. You simply can't go wrong.

The most current picture of the CMs (and others) at the resort. The three on the bottom are the ones who've been there from opening, I believe. Two things strike me about this picture. The most obvious one is how fewer CMs there are than from 1996: approximately a 20% reduction in staff if my eyes don't deceive me. The second item I noticed is that it's been less than four years since I left the staff there, and I recognize maybe 15 people in this picture. Wow. The turnover rate while I was there wasn't that severe.

Thank you for the picture!

I was told that one of the 3 originals retired on that day. The lady in the middle.

Also, in the original picture, there were people on the floor where the Live Oak Lodge sign is and on the ground floor. None now.

Yes, that would appear to be the case re: the woman in the middle. I'm so awful with names that I can't remember any of those three. I do know the woman on the left is in scheduling/front desk operations while the other two are housekeeping. And, yep, that's what I noticed in the original picture, as well--no one on the second floor and only the three women on the ground.
