Couple more questions...sorry all! Do you have to give your business a name? Do you think I should actually list something for sale first?
If $3k of my $5k spend was on plastiq (rent and tuition) and $1000 was on Paypal, do you think they would have a problem with that?

I put my name and sole proprietorship. I'm planning to put about $1500-$2000 of a dentist bill on mine, which I'll get reimbursed through my fsa. So I'm hoping they don't care about that.

I think you'll be completely safe on that one. It's a legitimate bill and they'll have no idea about the FSA reimbursement. I've put a $400+ dental bill on an AMEX before and had no issue but of course YMMV as we all know in this game, lol!

Regarding your first question: Your "business" is a a Sole Proprietorship meaning your personal name is your business so no worries there. I'd actually say if y

Question 2: I'd look for some other opinions here...I know AMEX can be weird about certain kinds of spend but I've mostly heard that around Gift Cards. I THINK you're safe there but would love another opinion - maybe @Lain or @Albort have some experience on this one...

Thanks, is there part of your message missing here? "I'd actually say if y"? :-)

LOL - I started a thought then deleted it (apparently not fully) where I was going to say if you put a "business name" there they could ask for documentation of the business and that would pose a problem. You could say you're a dba but if you don't have a bill or something showing that name then you have an issue. Then I decided this was way to complex and deleted it...but now I posted it again...and I'm rambling! lol!

LOL gotcha! Do I actually need to sell something like ASAP?

Hi ALL,

I could use some help please. i am ready to book for Disney world going 11-5/11-12. i am going to call chase and speak to Leon (thank you southfayettefan) and was wondering if i can book other options then what i see on the chase portal. Can Leon book the poly/contemporary or others but not the rooms showing up in the portal?? also, lets say that once everything is booked, Disney then does discount the rooms or does free dining or something who would i call and see if it can apply it to my situation.

Any and all help would be very much appreciated. This is the first time my family of 5 will be going to Disney. we all are supper excited.

THANK YOU all for all of your help and knowledge.

awesom thanks will report back

I must have missed this whole conversation. Please do report back on now it goes. We will be going almost the same dates and I wanted to book a monorail resort but the chase portal only has club level theme park views which are too expensive.
If I could book a few nights at a standard view that would be amazing.

99.999% sure u will be fine with plastiq. i did 7k of 10k via plastiq to meet my SPG Biz CC. (rentish)

thanks @SouthFayetteFan for the trigger.

I missed this post...thank you for the heads up! I haven't seen this promotion mentioned anywhere else. Off to grab some gift cards tonight!

The smart thing to do is to use something other than the Freedom for this, right? I don't want to trigger the 5x Chase Pay for the quarterly bonus category if I can max that out PLUS get 10x from Shop Rite on a different card.

EDIT: Never mind, it all evens out whether I use the Freedom here or somewhere else.

But it doesn't look like you need to use your Shop Rite card to trigger the 10x, so you could put $400 on all eligible Chase cards since it isn't linked to your Shop Rite account.
yes thank you for posting! @peel I stopped and got one today.... this is great! And I used chase pay in store for the first time...very easy!

my son in idaho called and wants the family to go to disneyland next christmas season. working around school and work schedules, it looks like early jan 2019 works best. now i have to figure out how to get 7 people to california. was hoping you all might have some suggestions for me. i've been playing the cc bonus game for a couple of years but spending it as i get it. trip to florida, trip to hawaii, multiple trips to idaho. was hoping you all could see an easy (cheap) way for me to get 7 of us from pdx to disneyland, LAX, SNA, ONT, LGB are all ok...
Don't forget the transportation cost to Disneyland. If you rent a car or 2 don't forget to calculate in parking costs of your hotel. Some are free, some (Disney properties) are $20/day. It's not going to be cheap to fly to SoCal at New Years, or anywhere for that matter imho. It's just not so start looking at prices now to get an idea of what you could be looking at and keep checking a couple times a week.
Christmas season in Jan? Kinda cutting it close fyi. Last couple years Xmas was over by Jan 6-8 depending on the year. (Last year's Holiday dates were released Sept 5.)

I just checked my Ink statement from when I made a test payment to my student loan companay. The charge is listed as "ACS EDUCATION WWW.PLASTIQ.C CA" -- so the charge isn't just to Plastiq, it's to ultimate payee/Plastiq. I think PayPal might be the same way.

for student loans, u may want to look into gift of college.

Good point. I did also buy one Gift of College card at a grocery store to help meet a minimum spend (much lower fees than Plastiq; I was hoping the Plastiq charge would code as some 5x category but it did not), but this was before AmEx decided to not count gift cards towards minimum spend. I probably will try again with my current AmEx minimum spend card, although I'll definitely leave enough time to make up the amount if AmEx doesn't count it. I'm thinking Toys R Us might be a better bet than the grocery store for avoiding detection.

Per Plastiq's TOS:
  1. For Recipients in the United States, the use of American Express cards is permitted for the following industries: Government, Utilities, Education, Residential Rent, and Club Fees & Memberships.
I've paid my daughter's preschool tuition using my SPG Biz through Plastiq, no problem.

What is the $1000 via PayPal for?

You may not want to do P2P money transfers to a spouse, friend, or family member using PayPal, Venmo, or Apple Pay. Besides, there's a ~3% fee to move that money around.

The only thing I've read that for sure do not count towards an Amex minimum required spend is Simon Mall Visa gift cards. I'd stay away from prepaid Visa/MC/Amex gift cards in general. But third-party, merchant gift cards should be fine.

The paypal is for a (almost embarrassed to say, due to the amount) a Puppy. The deposit went to the Breeders name, but that was from my balance, not with a credit card, so I am not sure what it would show.

So where do you think Gift of College cards would fall -- closer to Visa/MC/AmEx gift cards or closer to third-party merchant gift cards?

Totally understand. We have a "full price puppy" too (his siblings were later discounted, but we got the pick of the litter). No judgment here. We had our reasons for going through a breeder and couldn't be happier.

If you decide to use Plastiq, I hope you can find a link from a DISer so you can get some "fee free dollars" or free payment processing on $500 after you spend your first $500.

I don't think I've ever seen an answer to whether Amex gets Level 3 data from Toys R Us/Babies R Us, which is the only place I'm aware of where you can buy $500 Gift of College gift cards for a $5.95 fee (1.19%). I've seen it suggested to always add something small and random to your transaction so it doesn't ring up conspicuously as $505.95, which is often the same amount as say a $500 Visa Gift Card with a $5.95 activation fee. Pretty sure if Amex RATs (Rewards Abuse Team) saw $505.95 on your statement, they'd assume you were MSing.

I used my first DISchurners link!! I pulled the trigger on SPG Biz! Now the bad news: I forgot whose I used. Very embarrassed right now on that front. I reviewed all the names and just couldn't decide whose to use so I used a random number generator to decide and by the time I finished my app and closed everything down I forgot what link I picked.

It's also my first Amex biz. Not the hottest thing but with those cards changing(?) and my lack of interest in MRs right now (feel like they might be more useful later in life, I'm on the young side ;) ) I decided it was time for SPG Biz. I'm thinking of trying for a 2nd Barclaycard Aviator since I closed my last one in July and want to keep my personal cards down for that app, plan is to try that next followed by personal SPG in short order.

No clue what I should do with these SPG points, never had SPG points before, don't even know if I've stayed at an SPG hotel... I'm intrigued by the Sheraton Club benefit. My BFF and I are thinking of going to Hawaii. I don't want to use all my points on a single day at a St Regis but I'm wondering about using them at a Sheraton with a club. Island of Hawaii is where I'd like to visit since I've never been there! Ooh, looks like they have a Sheraton from a quick google search, I'll have to look into if club access that comes with the SPG card would work there...

Time to go back and keep trying to catch up on this thread. I'm STILL 10 pages behind!!

(@SouthFayetteFan you can add a 1 to the "referrals you've used" part of that survey since I took it prior to this :) )
