The good news: our flights to MCO dropped another 2200 RRs each.
The bad news: got rear ended on the way to work. Minor accident, doesn't look too bad. Just a pain in the rear.

Sorry to hear that! Hope you are okay and that they have insurance to fix any damage for you.

So strange..... so I called my Hh acct today to ask about the extra 20k points for the email referral thingy we did last month.... (p2 got 100k) I was supposed to get 20k for the referral- so the rep told me the date, and it appears I got a 10k bonus and a 60k bonus...even tho on his end he said it looked like a 10k+ 20k bonus on that date..... ??? any ideas what's going on here?

A like for the flights, sucks for the car :( Hopefully you stay ok and it's just car damage. Sometimes you don't feel it until the next day.

Man this government shutdown has been annoying. I'm furloughed but not 100%, but I'm having to log on for an hour or two each day morning and afternoon just to make sure there's nothing that needs to be done. But I can't work all day - not that there's anything to do anyway.

In other news, my parents are considering joining us for our February WDW trip. I was looking for a good rate - passholder rates seem ok, Pop Century may be their best bet, but wow there's some expensive stuff out there.

I know plenty have posted about Chase and Staples, but I also made a purchase of $150 in Disney gift cards split in half over my CSP and CSR. I haven't received an e-mail yet, but I see $6 pending on each card under offers. I also added the 10% before the 30% offer so live and learn. The 30% offer is still showing with no money back so I guess I will repeat the process to trigger the $19 on each card. Glad the $15 amount over the $60 did not waste the 30% off offer. Not the worst thing since I need plenty of Disney gift cards, but 30% stacked with 10% would have been nice.

As for the new ShopRite ChasePay offer. Would it be a waste to do $400 in Disney gift cards on both cards? I'm guessing it would work out to be worth $60 per offer when redeemed via CSR so thats about 15% off. I do my main grocery shopping at ShopRite so I could probably do around $400/500 in regular spend for points between now and 2/4/19.

If it were me Id let it ride since you last got the bonus 4 years ago or if your nervous secure message chase asking to cancel the old card, then wait and see if the new application is approved. If it is great...if not wait 30 days to reapply for a SW personal card
this sort of goes with my crazy post from the other day about the young friend who successfully apped and got approved for TWO priority cards! I think they're gonna call and cancel the 2nd card right away

FYI - the double dip is not entirely dead...

https://www.reddit.com/r/DISchurners/comments/9uoxlv/the_modified_double_dip/

We've talked about this a little bit here but figured it was worth a reminder...there is a "modified double dip" that could enable you to still get a CSR and CSP or potentially 2 SW personal cards. We don't have a ton of discussion on DISchurners but this thread has had a little activity. I think we were keeping a lot of the conversation over there to stay off search engines AND because it's a highly specific strategy so seeing comments and DPs is helpful. I also don't think we'll be advising new folks to try this as it sounds a little crazy, haha! At any rate...if anybody has any additional thoughts or questions, please share there (or here).
Could this be what my young friend accomplished unthinkingly???? the modified double dip? I mean he has two priority cards..... should I tell him NOT to call and cancel the 2nd?

Phew... it's been a whirlwind morning for me... no caffeine needed for me!

I woke up and was scrolling through Facebook when I saw an ad from a Disney page I follow saying that free dining was released overnight! I jumped up and grabbed my laptop to see what kind of money it would save us if we rebooked with that instead of the Magical rate we have. I was afraid that if I waited that I would miss out on the deal, so I went ahead and rebooked everything direct with Disney on the website and figure I will just cancel if we can get the discounts applied magically once I hear back from her.

So my original total package costs for three rooms for 6 people with 5 day PHs for everyone plus the dining plan was $8,638.58.

After rebooking with free dining, my costs for the same package is $7,751.20!

:cool1:
Awesome!! You should be able to transfer the reservation over to her and she will still get the commission. Win-win!!

So....I canceled my SPG personal today....for the first time,I feel a sense of loss....I've had that card for quite a few years! like 10! But due to all the changes in the program and the cheap free night I probably won't use,(if it ever shows) and the fact that I'm maxed on Amex and might want another at some point....goodbye to my old standby!
Anyway.... I also got the lowes and amex offers on both Dh and I accts,so one of each for each of us.... but I want to do the Chase offer first. I'm thinking this is a good way to do gc purchases for a while, since it's up to either $50 or $100 back!(that's either $500 or $1000 spend, right?)

I did not expect the discounts to come out today. Especially AP rates, aren't those usually out later?
  • Originally a standard room at All Star Music was $564.11 for 3 nights
  • AP discount for a preferred room is $463.96
  • Wyndham Bonnet Creek is $947.81/63,187 URs ($473.90/31,594 URs ea)
It's probably silly that a $100 difference makes me feel better about cashing out URs for that. It's probably more that I can cash them out against discounted GCs, and I can get a lot closer to 31.6k URs from 46.4k than 56.4k lol

Also I will admit that I've been selfish in not sharing my discounted GC deals with ILs part of the cruise so far. Mainly because I was looking at their cruise cost to use them against, and BILs haven't coughed up any of their cash so far, so I hated to keep floating more money out when we've already put in our share... plus manipulated it with the CSRs to make it worth an additional $600-$1700 depending on how the URs were used, keeping everyone's cost lower.

But if I just reimburse with URs... something I thought I'd be able to use URs for originally... :)

Also, I added up my last Disney GC purchases plus the 2 we got for Christmas gifts... my first goal was for the cruise + gratuities + extra costs/excursions - deposit (cash) ... and I'm within $32 of that goal  That was much faster than I ever expected, especially with pulling from my stash for Labor Day and our big September trip.

I'm sorry, we're almost in the same situation here. I'm just counting down days, DH's department has a small budget to keep operating for a short time.

This is a sort of off topic post but may be useful to someone if you don't know already.

In November we drove to Disney. I forgot my Sun Pass and hadn't added my van to it anyway, but didn't expect to be using toll roads.

The day we left, I 4 was sort of backed up a bit so I headed for 417 and then used the sun pass lanes, fully intending to add the van to my account as soon as I got to my hotel that night. Turns out I forgot and didn't give it a thought until I noticed my ez pass replenishment that happened this morning. I had used a 40 cent toll road yesterday.

Anyway, Central Florida started accepting EZ pass Sep 1, 2018, so my tolls went on that. Their toll booth says 'E pass' which didn't register as using ez pass for me. I didn't figure it out until I got a replenishment notice and looked at my account today.

Perhaps this will help someone driving in Florida who doesn't yet know or maybe even with a rental car.

If he can make the spends and can use or even cash in the points, I would have him go for it and maybe help him a little to get it done.

And if it works out for him, congratulations!

DVC members who pay dues with gift cards, can you partially pay with gift cards?? I don't think we'll have enough gc on hand by the end of the month to pay in full this year.

Yes. And if you had the monthly option I think it works even better as you can just keep paying as you accumulate cards. I had a monthly deduction from my checking account and I had never had a problem in 18 years. When I paid the remainder last year for a minimum spend on a credit card, it was seamless, and then I did contract by contract one day in December with my gift cards and it just deducted and pushed the next payment date down the road until it was paid in full with my final gift card. I should have been doing this for years.

Go on the site and check it out. I think they are due by January 15 and late by Feb 15.

Ok, I'm really having a decent day!

My Marriott points posted!

All 60,000 of them!

I had the 40K and 10K for upgrading to the Premier card.
And I had the 4K and 6K for the SPG personal promotion from last September that I met in October and have been waiting ever so patiently for! yay me!
