I love credit cards so much!

Just have to vent to people who will understand... how is it possible that a major children's hospital DOES NOT TAKE AMEX?

I got the Amex BGR a few weeks ago, right before they changed it and stopped waiving the AF the first year. DD2 has an MRI scheduled for December, so I figured I could put what will likely be a large bill toward my spend on the new card. Just got a bill from the hospital for a different doctor's visit and... no Amex accepted. Grrr.

ETA: I complained to DH, who just shrugged and said "put it on a different card." Not the reaction I was looking for.

A DP on SPG Lux upgrade and annual fees posting, etc:

Card anniversary is 3/27 (had it for years). Upgraded to Lux on 9/15/18. The terms of the upgrade stated that the new AF would fall 45 days after the upgrade. On 11/27/18 statement close date there is a refund for 4/12ths of $95 AF (-$31.66) and charge for 4/12ths of $450 (+$150). I did receive and use the $300 SPG credit in full already. So I'm ahead by $86.66 woohoo!

I'm $562 away from meeting the $5K spend; needs to be done by 12/14. I'm planning on using $500 for the Ritz Carlton Amex Offer. Bummed because I could have used the $20 off $75 Rover offer on DH's AU card to meet the last bit of spend and I didn't even think about it being on his AU card even though I used mine on my card. Derp.

I'm hoping that next year's $300 credit will become available on my 3/27 anniversary - because I check out of Wailea Beach Marriott on 3/29!

Received my new SPG Lux card sometime last week while I was gone; DH's AU card came yesterday. That's 10-11 weeks after upgrading, really s l o w.

In other cc news, I've received my BBP card but am still waiting for DH's to show up even though we were approved on the same day. I saw here that other people were waiting on their BBPs and SPG Lux cards too so I thought I'd share that I'm in a similar boat.

I’ve done tons of visa gc at Best Buy with no issue at all. Just swipe when they ask for payment.
I think were going to give it a shot finally next week.
Got the pillows of the boy's I ordered last week after finding the company cut out pillows on groupon. They are too cool not to share. Sorry it's so big but I'm lazy and just used the facebook link instead of uploading again to imugr. The pillows are 14 inches tall. Buddy is on the left and is Dude's (on the right) gift to grandma. Dude and I agreed that we couldn't not get one of him too :) The fabric is soft and the images are on both sides which surprised me, I thought they would only be on one side. They also do people's heads :)

Those are so great! I should have gotten some for gifts too

I am new to this, My credit score is 700 right now, and I just got the Uber Visa and American Express Blue Everyday Preferred very recently, my other cards are Discover It and Capital One... So, no Chase for me for awhile..... So I am planning a cruise to Alaska in 2020, probably Princess Cruise, and then we will cruise on Carnival next year. Plus I want to go to Scotland and Ireland in the next few years, and New Zealand eventually, So I need a good travel card that is not Chase right now..... P2 is working on his credit, paying off an old debt and waiting for it to clear, should be over 700 soon..... so maybe he can get a Chase.... But need some advice, which card would be best? I don't want to get the wrong card at the wrong time, but maybe I have already.. Going to Disney in 9 days!! I can't wait!!!
thanks for the help!! Love you Guy!!

I'm not sure I have a good answer for you but we're very talkative today and didn't want this to get rolled by :)

I'm a little confused on your Blue Everyday Preferred - does that earn MR points or Cash back? There's a Everyday (ED) and Everyday Preferred (EDP) cards that earn MR points, and then there are Blue Cash Everyday (BCE) and Blue Cash Preferred (BCP) cards that do cashback. If you have MR points you can check the travel portal to see how many are generally needed to apply to a cruise. There's also Carnival Corp GC's available to cash out at 1 cpp, which isn't horrible for an AmEx redemption. So you can consider an AmEx run possibly.

Discover had partnered with a travel agency for cashback on your cruise, but I haven't looked since they discontinued Discover deals. At first you could redeem certain amounts of cashback and get it doubled when booking through them or the cashback. This year I noticed they were only listed as cashback in the Discover deals section so it's kind of up in the air. But that's only 5-10% back usually so a sign up bonus that could erase a travel charge would still be better most likely.

My card is the cash back one, BCP

Guess I picked the wrong card for travel.....

They do indeed. I ended up at a Columbia Mall on Tues and snagged a $25 GC with the free slice. It runs through Dec. So I’ll go that route next month also.
Is the free slice a cert or do you need to take the slice right then and there?

Thanks! These are good options. Was hoping to combine free nights with the 7-night cert since we need two rooms but the cert is cat 1-4 and not sure timing works out to do that without Marriott allowing me to extend.

Just FYI, when you call to convert from a legacy cert to a new cert you will get a new expiration date from the date of conversion. So just keep holding off as long as possible. I haven't done mine either. Not sure why the font size changed here. Weird.

Well, you had a nicer person than I did, because I just chatted and he said that my purchase wasn't eligible. "This merchant has been excluded from the campaign because It is for Wireline products".

Yours was just Directv and internet like mine, right?

It said ATT phone. We don't have ATT wireless, just tv and internet, but I think @disneymagicgirl was the same and she said she got it. What was funny was that the guy said we couldn't get it because our charge was for wireless and that didn't qualify, but I think it's actually the opposite, right? They wanted you to use it on wireless?

Sorry, I am still 13 pages behind, but wanted to reply.
Mine coded as at&t phone. It is supposed to be wireless, but I have internet/directv. He spent a long time looking it over. Asked how I paid...I said website, no 3rd party, yadayada. He said he would escalate it. A few days later I got the credit. I didn't think it was going to go through.
Just try chatting again. I nonchalantly said I did the offer on x date and it hasn't credited. Didn't give details that it wasn't actually wireless or anything.
Now, all that said, I have the offer on another card and I'm not going to use it. I don't want to risk not getting the $200 credit and losing out on 3x UR via CIP. Just going to be happy I got it the one time and move on.

Is the free slice a cert or do you need to take the slice right then and there?

It is a cert that you redeem from like Jan 1-March 31 (don't quote me on the dates...). We do this offer every year and usually go end of Jan/early Feb for a date night :) We don't get many dates so this is a nice one to have on the calendar every year. Kids can't go. I have one with a dairy allergy and pretty much nothing at CCF is safe for him so, oh well, gotta be mom and dad only :D

@disneymagicgirl Do you have any knowledge of this magical Christmas parade in downtown Nashville this weekend?

No, no clue. I am so out of the loop. I did see a sign driving around today that the Franklin (my suburb) parade is this weekend too. If you have time, you should totally spend 2 hours or so wandering downtown Franklin...main street to be exact...esp after dark, but anytime is lovely.
Oh, and the Gaylord Opryland is apparently opening a brand new indoor/outdoor "upscale" waterpark on 12/1 for hotel guests only. It looks pretty cool. I need to investigate it some more. I think DD10 would like an overnight there for his bday weekend in February and I assume I could use marriott points.

You didn't pick the wrong card! BCP is a great card and can really maximize your cash back on an expense that most of us have and is big...groceries and GC's from the grocery store! But yeah, it's not a travel card. That's ok. Amex hands out their cards pretty freely so just figure out your next card and go for it!

so no other info on using a PP with 4 people? I'm feeling anxiety and I need to force myself to try this for once!
I am following for advice, because I have 6 people. We have so many cards, I need to investigate which ones offer PP access and for how many people.

I am obviously several days behind but wouldn't you know I just bought our tickets today on the wdw website for our Jan trip and now I am reading this. sigh.
Wow...I am very sorry :( Did you see my other comments that perhaps with the flexible option required it wasn't that great a deal during less expensive times (i.e. January) so take solace in that perhaps!

What is the best card to use, or get for princess cruise to Alaska, we are planning a trip in 2020 and would like to get the best deal, not sure a chase card is an option....

Perhaps I missed something but why is a Chase card not an option? Is it related to your credit score/credit report? (Admitedly, while I profess to be an expert in all things credit cards...scores and issues on reports are not an area of expertise for me)... If you haven't TRIED to get a Chase card and gotten denied, if could be worth at least giving it a shot (but again I probably don't know the whole story so please share if there's more to this :))

When specifically did you get approved for each of your cards? (Typically we'll list it in MM/YY format like this):
01/18 - AMEX BLAH BLAH CC
04/18 - CITI BLAH BLAH CC
If you also do one of these lists for your P2 that would be good too...

Ok, after the card list here's a bunch of other questions that would help:
  • Where does this cruise depart from?
  • Do you need to fly to get there?
  • What airports are you near?
  • Do you have any preferred airlines/hotel programs?
You say you need "A good travel card" but what you'll start to see here is one good travel card won't get you far. Most of us have opened and earned signup bonuses on numerous cards (some people 50-60+ cards). With this cruise out in 2020, you don't want to panic and skip all Chase cards because of the 5/24 rule which states that once you've opened 5 new card accounts in 24 months, Chase will not approve you for their cards (and Chase has some of the BEST travel cards). At any rate, give us some more info related to the questions above and I think we can give you some good advice.

Got my first Gold Card rebate for dining out! $4.29 for spending $21.xx at Taco Bell! So I checked my Panera purchase of the lunch and gift card. It's details say Food and Beverage so I'm wondering if I'll get 20% back on that $58.xx. I need to still do my $10 deal for Cheesecake or Shake Shack so I might just run out tomorrow and do that. Wonder if it will credit twice if I do two purchases? Like 2 of the $25 gift cards? Doesn't CCF have a special going on now for a free slice with $25?

Wait, what card is this?

You make a purchase and they give you back a certain % rebate? This could be amazing for DH to carry since he expenses the full price and we would pocket the rebate.

I need details please!:teacher:

:) It was probably crazy busy this morning anyway! Our local Aldi just had a grand reopening yesterday after a couple of months closed for remodeling. I took my coupon from the mailer, and they gave me 3 more at the checkout! I love Aldi.
My Aldi ad never has coupons. Does yours always have them?

I didn't see this shared here: CFU (Chase Freedom Unlimited) $200 offer...https://www.doctorofcredit.com/chase-freedom-unlimited-200-offer/ (aka 20,000 UR points)

Since many of us are in 2 player mode here, I think it makes more sense to refer each other where applicable since you earn $100 (10k URs) from the referral and $150 (15k URs) from the signup so that's $250 (25k URs) combined. IF neither player has a CFU then this offer could be a good start.

EDIT: I'll add that if this interests you, I wouldn't wait around on it. Sometimes Chase puts these offers out as a test and we've seen them pulled pretty quickly before. That may not be the case here, but you never know. I seem to recall a 60k CSP and a 3x UR CFU offer earlier this year that came and went very quickly.

I did see those after I posted. I paid with my deeply discounted gift cards so I suppose that is my consolation. I'm not going to do the math to see if I came out ahead or not. Some things are better unknown.:p

I did the math...you came out ahead...trust me ;) It'll help you sleep easier :)

@Lain - was it you who mentioned you also don't like that "Im Ronnie Pickering" guy from r/churning? Well guess what...I cracked a case tonight my friend...

Im Ronnie Pickering's reddit account got suspended and his last comment was on July 23rd. Well...on July 24th a new account showed up on r/churning...for "Im a Big Guy For You". This guy said his old account had gotten banned from another sub, but he never told anybody who he was previously.

AND I could sense something I didn't like about the guy, like I didn't trust him but I couldn't figure out who he was...until tonight. I am so proud of myself...CASE CRACKED! Oh and if @Lain...it wasn't you I discussed that with then you can just ignore all of this LOLOL!
