Did you do it?

I did the Aspire upgrade, but not the other one (Ascend?). So, I ended up upgrading from the no-fee straight to the Aspire for 150k points. I have upgraded that card before, though, a couple of years ago, then downgraded back to no-fee. Now I did also get the dreaded pop-up in August, so I don't know if they're holding the up and down-grading against me, lol.

Because I need confirmation on the math:

5 $100 transactions at Best Buy using Chase Pay 5X UR and 5 Chase Pay purchases getting 1500 UR bonus and Swagbucks = 2500 UR (5X CF) + 1500 UR bonus + 4750 SB (950 per $100 transactions) = $87.50 off $500 = 17.5% off

$450 Disney gift cards ($143.98 for $150 at Sam's, so $431.94) using Sam's discount + CF 5X UR + 5% Dosh = $18.06 Sam's discount + 2160 CF 5X UR + $21.60 Dosh 5% = $61.26 off $450 = 13.6%

Right?

ETA seeing @Lain post my scenario does not contemplate Best Buy rewards so that would only add to the Best Buy discount
So I still need to open sb acct. don’t know why that one scares me. I jumped right in on the rmn. Haven’t done the dosh yet either

Yes the bonus points still count toward the CP...right now the personal SW cards bonus points are 40,000 unless your flying, then you can pull up an offer for 50,000 points and have to apply in flight

Can you apply for the business card in flight? I recently cancelled my Plus SW card and have to wait 30 days to reapply. I’m traveling home in 26 days...

We booked our hotel tonight for Hakone for 11k points for one night so I thought I would come post an update on our trip to get some help/insight for the rest of our expenses.
Paid for:
1 night in Hakone
RT business class plane tickets
6 nights in Kyoto

Still need:

6 nights at Hilton Tokyo Bay (waiting for Hilton cards)
5 nights at AirBnB
RT Frontier tickets from our home state to LAX
Tokyo Disney tickets (I don't think we can use any points for these)
Japan Rail Passes (I don't think we can use any points for these)

We currently have around 24k points left on the UR portal.
Are you into bank account bonuses? Could help with those no point costs!

1) there’s no need to apply for SW biz in flight. The 60k offer is available to all.
2) why do you have to wait 30 days to apply for the personal card?

Just got an email that our waitlist came through!!:yay: Wanted to do our pre-cruise night at BCV before heading out on the Dream:sail:. We had booked a character breakfast that morning at Cape May so this will be easier than coming over from Copper Creek.

ETA: First time staying here so tips are appreciated!

The business card is still the same online or in flight ...it’s only the personal cards that are different in flight
You don’t have to wait 30days to apply for the personal card again...you can apply while traveling in 26 days

Is it ever a good value to purchase SW points? Currently trying to get travel plans sorted out for Christmas and if I transfer over all my existing UR points to SW I'll be about 8500 points short for the fares I want to purchase. I could wait until my CIP bonus finally posts early next week but I'm scared all the good fares will be gone by then! Advice?

Any deals on AirBnB right now or for AirBnB gift cards?

I haven't checked real recently but I'm pretty sure my Targets have them, so could check there for 5% at least.

Got an email tonight about being able to refer people from the chase app. This was at the bottom -

Participating Products include: Chase Sapphire Preferred®, Chase Freedom Unlimited®, Southwest Rapid Rewards® Premier, Southwest Rapid Rewards® Plus, World of Hyatt, IHG® Rewards Club Premier, United℠ Explorer, Marriott Rewards® Premier Plus, Chase Ink Business Preferred℠, and Disney® Visa®.

This should help know whether a card has a referral or not.

I haven't seen a Marriott link in a while, I wonder if they can be generated again now. That'd be interesting.

2) why do you have to wait 30 days to apply for the personal card?

I thought I read somewhere that if you open up a recently closed acct (<30days) you risk Chase re-opening up your original account rather than a new card with the new bonus. I can't remember where I saw that, probably in the comments in someone's blog post.

That has always been the general advice but it’s not necessarily founded in anything. With regards to product changes and then reapplying for a new card I think the minimum is 3 days or 5 days (there are actual DPs on this). I’d be surprised that you really have to wait 30 days on a cancellation. If the flight is on day 26 and I have the chance at a 50k offer I’d probably attempt it. Also, I’d probably just apply for a different card than the Plus card - then there’s no issue.

Just got an email that my PNC bonus posted. What an easy $300! :woohoo::woohoo: My PayPal DD posted on 9/13 just a couple days after my 10 Amazon $.50 cent reloads happened.

ETA: @CyndiLouWho - Check yours as I think we finished the requirements on the same day. Hope you got it too!
Yay! Checked this morning and nope. But just checked and there it is! I also have an email from PNC offering $15 for paying 2 bills. Gotta set that up.
Now how long do we have to keep PNC account open?

I plan to move all but $500 out and downgrade to the basic account on Oct. 15th. Give that a month and see about closing it out. I have seen often in documentation that there are fees for early closure and have never, in over 20 years of banking, been hit with an early closure fee. I just don't like leaving money in accounts I have no intention of keeping... one less thing to track.

The AMEX Saks deal is fantastic. I ordered a few items (off our 2 cards) for around $110 total combined. They arrived today, along with two $50 statement credits from AMEX. It's stuff I would have bought no matter what so I feel like I saved $100. :) Happy day for me. I also saw the RMN deals stink for October. Oh well, I thought it was too good to last. :(

Can someone talk me out of the Briggs and Riley carry on I want but don't need from ebags? I keep trying to rationalize the 20 united miles/$ (10,580) plus the United Plus Shopping bonus (1500 united miles for $350) plus 5x Chase Pay with FU (2645 UR). Plus, the bronze would match my LV purse. Need some grumpy man to tell me it's not a good idea :)

I see you already aren't getting it, but I was just going to say that I couldn't talk you out of one of those. We each have a B&R carryon (expandable) and they are fantastic. We don't check luggage and with some creative packing they can hold a ton. Ours are about 8-9 years old and have held up very well, through a one month trip to Europe, countless trips to WDW, and lately our 3 weeks in Europe. DD's wheel broke once and they fixed it in less than a week at no charge. I looked at Tumi but can't switch because of the B&R warranty and the expandability.

It looks like Icelandair flies out of International Terminal A at SFO. International Terminal A has the Air France/KLM Lounge that's part of the Priority Pass network. However, my wife and I have flown out of International Terminal A several times, together and separately, and we've never been able to get into the Air France/KLM Lounge because it's either closed, full, or not accepting PP at the time to reserve space for their own passengers, and have been told to try back later.

We were in that AF/KLM lounge in August. It's nice, and there was quite a bit of food offered, but honestly I prefer the Centurion Lounge there. We figured we'd try it since it was a long walk to the Centurion and we were flying AF.

Oh, yes!

So yes, TSA often will look at your departing boarding pass quizzically, and ask why or inform you that you're in the wrong terminal. Just tell the TSA agent you're visiting a lounge before your flight, and they'll pass you right through. Half the time, this happens to us, we tell them we're visiting a lounge, and there's no problem with that.

Last time we tried this they just looked at us and asked if we were headed to the Centurion Lounge. :rotfl: Easy peasy. I figured it's something that must happen quite often.

Oh I’ll have to check on that! We do have a target red card

Can you give me examples of some good bank account bonuses?
The best place to start is DoC's monthly best bonus list! https://www.doctorofcredit.com/best-bank-account-bonuses/ (Well, it's the 2nd best place to start after reading our DISchurners Bank Bonus 101 post ;) ) Imho Chase $300 checking bonus is the best way to dip your toes in. If you have the cash to float grabbing the savings bonus from Chase is quite easy as well. Discover also has an easy savings bonus to grab. I'd keep an eye on the Cap1 $500 Money Market offer, people were able to cumulatively get the bonus by putting 50k in bits at a time (25k in, 25k out, 25k in totally 50k, etc...) but they haven't posted the latest bonus in a bit (they batch process) so I'd watch for DPs of the bonus coming through recently FIRST if you'll need to do it in bits and pieces before jumping- but $500 is the best offer seen there- I was thrilled with my $250 back in the day on that one, ouch!

Review the fine print on your original offer, it will tell you if you have to keep the account open for X number of months. (I think it was 6.) I recall downgrading the account without issues after getting the bonus last year.
