I love credit cards so much!

Soooo, Plastiq experts - I paid my contractor via my new Amex Plat Biz, but I had trouble getting it to go through - apparently you aren't supposed to be able to pay contractors via amex and Plastiq. I put it through as rent/real estate. But now the payment is under review and they are looking for an invoice. Pretty sure this is a lost cause, ya think? Total bummer because I would never have thought I could get through the 10k spend without this giant payment to my contractor. Any thoughts?

Insult to injury - I just got the "congrats, your transaction earned 1.5x points" from Amex.

I guess worst case I give up on the Amex and use my CIP, but ugh, not sure how I will get to 10k on Amex.

All the talk earlier of Amex offers and I just realized I ordered a backpack for DS earlier today and I had an eBag offer on my Amex. I didn’t use my Amex. I don’t know how everyone keeps these straight. I didn’t spend $75 but I could have added something. Lol. Got to spend money to save money.

I figure it goes with the territory when these things happen. We still come out way ahead but it stings. The Lyft app wouldn't accept my freedom card at wdw this past weekend even though it was working otherwise. I lost out on 5x points. :sad2:

Someone, help my tired brain...I'm looking at Disney tix. I was trying to figure out the cost without calling. Is there a multiplier I can use to see how much tix would be using UR points through the CSR? It always seems to be about 30% off for hotels.

I usually divide by 1.5

And I still have $79 to spend on my Amtrak card. Forgot about the annual fee since most of mine have been waved first year lately and when I looked at my total while making my Pepco charge, I didn't check all the details. Glad I looked before I sock drawered it for a bit while working on my Amex spend.

So, I'll find something to buy before the day is out.....

Divide the cost by .015.

Divide by .015 like speedyfishy said. I looked up my ticket costs on the disney site and decided by .015 and was spot on.

ooohhh, I like this method better. I usually divide by 1.5 and then I just know how many points that $ amount equals in my head.

I just called Amex concierge to see if they could get me a reservation for California Grill during the fireworks and a pre park opening breakfast at Garden Grill. My last minute trip is in September and they weren’t showing availability. I’m curious to see if they can get me reservations.

I also requested Club 33 when I’m at Disneyland. Not expecting that lol but I read online that they were able to do it years ago, but it stopped.

Cool! Let us know!

Geez these cc issuers are annoying with plastiq. What is their prob with paying a contractor!?
Maybe you could call it a utility instead. What does the invoice the contractor gave you say at the top? I could see calling the a/c repair people and paying them as a utility. :rolleyes1

And my son ruined my birthday gift to my younger daughter by going to see the Improv show that I was going to get her tickets for. It's not that he went, it's that he gave it a mediocre review while talking to her, so that when I was asking her what she thought of going to the show, she says, 'brother said it was lame so I'm not interested.'

So I call him and he says, 'Oh it was pretty good! I got a lot of laughs but it's not as good as when we went to Baby Wants Candy.'

Well, Baby Wants Candy was hilarious! All of us enjoyed it and will go back if it comes through town again.

She would see Hamilton again but now the cheapest tickets are $399. No.

So, I guess I'll get her a gift certificate and let her pick her own entertainment.

Has anyone stayed at the Fairfield Inn near Universal Orlando? I had booked that at a cash rate of $101/night for our November trip, but reviews are mixed. I was hoping to get someone's input from here. I saw @SouthFayetteFan had stayed at the DoubleTree near the Universal entrance and I'm interested in that too. It would be a 30k/night redemption, which I would be fine with using Hilton points on since I'm not saving them for anything specific other than Tokyo in a few years. But the parking is $20/day, and paying for parking makes me irrationally angry lol. But I'm still coming out $160 ahead before tax if I do an award stay at Hilton. Guess I just need to suck it up?

Yeah, the invoice says XXXX Construction, LLC, and it describes how they are rebuilding a porch... not sure that the category is going to matter. Think it would be better to send in what I've got and see, or just abandon the payment?

I’m sorry to hear your mom won’t travel. What about a wheelchair? Would she go for that?
Quite honestly, I rented my mom an ECV for a big family trip to WDW and it was a disaster. I wouldn’t ever do it again, I’d rather push the wheelchair. But my mom has slow reflexes and was terrible at managing the ECV.

I keep offering, but so far it's a no go. I even tried tempting her with another cruise to Alaska and renting a wheelchair. :sad2: She said no, she doesn't feel secure about it all, so we booked our upcoming cruise instead.

I was waaay worse with my motion sickness as a child. When I was pregnant (in 1993! Where has the time gone?) we went to DL and I could ride without taking Bonine and without getting sick! After pregnancy the motion sickness returned. Now that I am past childbearing age the sickness has diminished again. Not to the level during pregnancy but not as bad as it was. Must have something to do with hormones. :confused3

YES! When I was a kid I couldn't get to my Aunt's house (35-40 miles away) without needed to stop and get out or throwing up. It's awful. I have no desire to ride the fast rides.

OMG! This never occurred to me, and we've had that card for so long. Would have been so cool. I would be surprised if it is still possible.

You can never have too many packing cubes.

So true! We just added a couple new ones (one has a compression zipper) and it is the key to us packing in carryons only.

I don't get the problem paying contractors either?!? Isn't that kind of the point of plastiq? Being able to pay bills with a CC that you cannot normally pay with a CC??

I'd send it in and see. I can't think why there is harm. It's a legit bill but I know Amex is really funky about what they allow. Good luck!

We stayed at the Hyatt Place Universal last year before we moved over to Portofino and it was perfectly fine for the night. Definitely not the Portofino but for a night it was fine.

My mom says she could ride anything while pregnant but non-pregnant, everything got to her. She said she rode roller coasters all during her pregnancy with me (anyone else remember AstroWorld in Houston?). I do think you may be right that it's hormonal. My motion sickness started with car sickness as a teen, and sadly, has only gotten progressively worse. I have to work hard while at WDW to be ok. I have young kids who love Dumbo and AstroOrbiter. I ride with them but really have to kind of 'disassociate' from the experience. I do better later in the day. The Maui cruise was early morning also which is my hardest time.

Oh, how I miss AstroWorld! Lol Dh and I had one of our first few dates there.

Yet another Plastiq question: can my P2 also use my already set up Plastiq account? Or do I need to set him up one of his own? I’m expecting his CIP to come any day now and need to set it up for that car insurance bill. I’m not sure if using my Plastiq acct will mess things up with either Plastiq OR Chase and would like to avoid any problems. But it sure would be easier to just use my acct.

I have used DH's CIP in my plastiq account with no issues.

Seconded, I've used DH's CIP multiple times in my Plastiq account paying my student loan bills.

Barclays update (I'm 9/24, have an Aviator from Feb as well as a closed Aviator and closed Arrival Plus). Denied Aviator Biz. I caved and called 8 days after my app. He said it was waiting review and reviewed everything on the app, asked what I retail trade I was in. Then said he was going to review my credit report and put me on hold. He asked why I opened so many cards recently, I said I was looking at this card to separate out business expenses and the other cards were for personal expenses as I like different benefits for for my travels. The way he asked about my recent cards I knew I was DOA. He proceeded to say he wanted to see more history with Barclays on the card I opened in Feb (haven't really used it). Dang.

Denial letter for my A+ app said I currently held the product so they did not pull my credit report. I closed my A+ about 3 weeks prior. I did think it odd they didn't hard hit my TU. Common knowledge says wait 30 days but I saw a DP from someone who was approved 2 weeks after closing so I got gutsy with some big work expenses coming up. Didn't work, give it a month for sure!

Blessing in disguise? I applied for the Aviator Biz assuming a too many cards opened denial reason on my A+ app. Maybe I'll put some spend on that Aviator and try for the A+ again in a couple months. With a CL of 1500 it won't be hard to make that look good and at this point what is another hard hit on my TU anyway?...

It’s not that you can’t pay contractors through Plastiq with an Amex. You can. It’s that you can’t pay mortgages, and when you selected Real Estate/Rent with an Amex as the payment method, it raised some flags. Send in a scan/pic of the invoice that shows it’s for construction, maybe with a one sentence explanation of the nature of the bill, and Plastiq should clear the payment.

Guess that seals the deal on me going for personal Aviator card then. Have only put one card on my Aviator biz since opening it last month.
