Yet another Plastiq question: can my P2 also use my already set up Plastiq account? Or do I need to set him up one of his own? I’m expecting his CIP to come any day now and need to set it up for that car insurance bill. I’m not sure if using my Plastiq acct will mess things up with either Plastiq OR Chase and would like to avoid any problems. But it sure would be easier to just use my acct.

Same as others! Used my dh's CIP many times in my account...as well as other cards of his :)

Or you could refer DH to his own Plastiq account so he can make payments with his CIP from it and you both can both pocket some Fee Free Dollars.

Guess that seals the deal on me going for personal Aviator card then. Have only put one card on my Aviator biz since opening it last month.
I'm a bit odd I think. Others like me and even lol/24 level are getting approvals- but it is appears to be entirely luck of the draw with your review rep.

I just called Amex concierge to see if they could get me a reservation for California Grill during the fireworks and a pre park opening breakfast at Garden Grill. My last minute trip is in September and they weren’t showing availability. I’m curious to see if they can get me reservations.

I also requested Club 33 when I’m at Disneyland. Not expecting that lol but I read online that they were able to do it years ago, but it stopped.

Be sure to let us know how this works out!

Oops hit reply! I was just going to say the same thing. I’ve wanted to try the club 33 route but thought it was dead. Good luck and can’t wait to hear whether it works.

It's best to refer them, they get $500 after the first $500 spend and you get $1,000.

It’s not that you can’t pay contractors through Plastiq with an Amex. You can. It’s that you can’t pay mortgages, and when you selected Real Estate/Rent with an Amex as the payment method, it raised some flags. Send in a scan/pic of the invoice that shows it’s for construction, maybe with a one sentence explanation of the nature of the bill, and Plastiq should clear the payment.
When I tried to put in "other services" it said that I could only choose rent/real estate, government, club or utilities for Amex - wouldn't even let me get the payment set up with "Other Services" as the line item. I will go ahead and send in the invoice - can't hurt! Will let you know what happens.

A couple months ago we used Plastiq to pay off a car loan. I had a Plastiq account that I'd used just a couple times - I don't have a CIP. But we got P2 a CIP for the car payoff. So I referred P2 for Plastiq, made a $500 payment on that account to trigger my 1000 fee free referral dollars on my account, and also the 500 P2 got on their account (after signing up and making $500 in payments). Then we put the rest of the car payments through my Plastiq account to use up those fee free dollars - should have done another $500 on P2s account to use those too! But that's okay, I'll get them used. Just an idea :)

I hope you get it to work! When I first started using Plastiq I had trouble paying contractors with an Amex, as well. I eventually just switched it to the CIP instead.

Do you have to use your fee free dollars all at once? Or could you pay a number of smaller bills and they’d all be fee free?

That’s probably reflective of Plastiq’s TOS, which provides:

For Payments to Recipients in the United States, the use of American Express cards is not supported beyond the following industries: Government, Utilities, Education, Residential Rent, and Club Fees & Memberships.
I don’t see a category that would fit contractors, but I also haven’t seen anything about Plastiq denying payments to contractors paid for with an Amex. The concern behind the restrictions is paying debt with (credit card) debt.

Well, if nothing else, we will get a new data point out of this ;)

It is absolutely legit spend - hopefully they will agree. If not, I'm going to have to get super creative to try to find 10k of spend for this card. Maybe its just the excuse we need to take a family trip to Fiji.

You can use them up over multiple transactions.

I referred my dh way back when to plastiq as well for those FFD's but once we used them up on his account, I pretty much abandoned his account and we just use mine (again, with cc's from both of us). I didn't want to keep up with two plastiq accounts unless there was an incentive to do so.

Hey guys! I see you are talking about the SW Priority upgrade offer. We just received a mailer with the offer yesterday. This is a good deal, correct? Doing the basic math it appears that for an additional $50 in annual fee we’ll receive an annual $75 travel credit back, plus 1,500 more in anniversary points. Am I daft? Am I missing something? Any regular user of this card who gets this offer should upgrade, right? Thanks!

Scary times... I’ve been sticking with one swipe for MOs but how long before that dies?

Tried my usual WM location (MD) yesterday and was BAU. Phew...for now. 2 swipes for $998.

Tried to register one of the MCGC I got from Staples.com, so that I could load it to my MasterPass account. Couldn't register it, and then realized I have to wait for the activation code to come separately in the mail right? :badpc:

Well, tried chatting with another Citi rep on getting the 70k offer matched for the 50k offer I applied for. No luck. Boooooo.

Soooo, Plastiq experts - I paid my contractor via my new Amex Plat Biz, but I had trouble getting it to go through - apparently you aren't supposed to be able to pay contractors via amex and Plastiq. I put it through as rent/real estate. But now the payment is under review and they are looking for an invoice. Pretty sure this is a lost cause, ya think? Total bummer because I would never have thought I could get through the 10k spend without this giant payment to my contractor. Any thoughts?

Insult to injury - I just got the "congrats, your transaction earned 1.5x points" from Amex.

I guess worst case I give up on the Amex and use my CIP, but ugh, not sure how I will get to 10k on Amex.

yeah, i had the problem last time when i had to pay a contractor... 4% fee directly with the contractor or plastiq for 2.5% fee. I never thought of just asking plastiq for help, i just used another card that i was meeting MSR with.

I think it probably depends on how you use Southwest.... and when was the last time you received a sign up bonus for the card you have. And, are they giving you any other incentive to upgrade? (extra points or anything?)

There are a number of scenarios where upgrading your current card is worth it and a number where cancelling that card to apply for the new card to get the sign up bonus on top of all that good stuff is worth it. (and maybe can even wrangle it to do the upgrade, use the travel credit and get the extra points, and then cancel it and try for the sign up bonus still.)

If I wasn't eligible to get the sign up bonus for it (I'm within 24 months of my last bonus or I'm 5/24 or more) and I've received my anniversary points for this year already and I have Southwest travel in the next year I can use the travel credit for, I would take the upgrade.

For me, I am eligible to get the sign up bonus for it and my next travel is just outside of a year, so if I were offered (which I wasn't yet :() I probably wouldn't. I'd probably cancel my card and then try to sign up as a new card in a time period so that I could use the travel credit. That way I get the sign up bonus and the rest of the good stuff for that annual fee.

ETA: I just realized I might sound like Debbie downer :) Not my intent. You are correct, it's a pretty good value for the annual fee. If you use SW like that, they did a good package for that card. I don't think we really found much of a downside to that card in our discussions that I recall :)
ETA2: Well not much downside other than a quibble about the sign up bonus being two parts and the large spend needed to get the second part.
