I love credit cards so much!

Another question - does Chase look at all credit extended to a person or just credit that Chase extended? Deciding if I should lower some of DH limits before he applies for the CSP.

Chase looks at the total credit that only Chase has extended to the applicant, including personal and business lines of credit.

When proactively reducing credit lines:

- It's best to reduce CLs far enough in advance so that the lowered CLs are reported to the credit report(s) that Chase pulls before submitting a new application. Although you can SM Chase to reduce a CL on a card, and Chase will reduce your CL effective immediately, Chase does not report the reduced CL to the credit bureaus until the close of statement on that card. So although Chase should know how much credit it's extended to you, its approval algorithm may be looking at your credit report and see the higher CL.

- When deciding how much to reduce a CL to, leave an extra $5k in available credit for each new card you may be applying for (and $10k for a CSR) in case you have to move credit from an existing card to open the new card(s).

- I don't think you have any business cards. But if you ever do decide to dip your toes into business cards, keep in mind that Chase will not let you move credit from personal cards to open a biz card, and vice versa. So reduce CLs among your personal and biz cards accordingly.

Thank you. I don't think he needs to reduce CL if they only look at Chase. I have requested to remove him as AU on my CSP and will also request to remove him from my CF. He does not have any Chase products on his own so he should be fine, even though he has high limits on a few other cards we never use.

No business cards for us, so not worried about that.

And as of now, I will still be able to transfer points we earn on his new cards to my CSP (as long as the rumors are just rumors) - right?

Does anyone have any thoughts on cruise trip insurance? I've looked on the cruise board and opinions seem to be 50/50 on going with the insurance through DCl vs. a third party. Through DCl it would be $320 and through a third party about $200. We haven't ever insured our previous cruises but feel like it's a wise thing to do. We aren't flying to the port, so the fact that DCL insurance doesn't cover flights doesn't matter to us.

If anyone has any thoughts on this, I'd love to hear them!

There are a couple of parts to trip insurance that I consider. One is medical/dental coverage (does your regular insurance cover you where you're going to travel?) and medical evacuation. The other is trip interruption/cancellation coverage. This one is often covered by the credit card you use to pay for the trip, but the coverage varies by credit card so you have to read that annoying fine print to see how you're covered.

Years ago, DH & I were going to go on a cruise with his dad, and two weeks before the trip his dad had to have surgery. Fortunately we had trip insurance and were able to cancel and get a refund. Maybe the credit card policy would have covered it, but this was back before I was savvy about such things.

Definitely skip DCL insurance, check out squaremouth or insure my trip for quotes. Most will cover pre-existing conditions but only if you buy within 14 days of your first payment (deposit) for the trip.

DH got an email that if he adds his CSR to google pay and makes three transactions in July he'll get 1500 URs... I don't have it but I've been using my CSR in Samsung Pay since the beginning of the year. Earned a $20 reward yesterday!

We are about $3500 into the spend on DH's hilton biz card. I app'd and approved for my own hilton biz this morning. Nothing like waiting til the last day.
Ha, I'm waiting for DHs hail appraisal this afternoon to see what it comes in at... because this card is still on my list to consider...

I've always gotten trip insurance through a third party for my cruises, and thankfully, have never needed it. My TA suggested using a third party instead of Disney because of price and have just gone that route. And we fly to the port, but I'm not concerned about the flights as much as I am the cruise fare itself.

Does the CSR's insurance cover a cruise at all?

@wendow - do you or DH have any of Chase's Marriott cards (old Premier, new Premier Plus, Marriott Biz, Ritz-Carlton) or received a signup or upgrade bonus on any of those cards in the past 24 months?

The relevant part of DoC's rumor is:
- American Express plans to exclude anybody who has received a sign up or upgrade bonus on any Ritz-Carlton/Marriott credit card in the past 24 months (including Marriott business).
- You will also be excluded if you currently hold or have recently held the Ritz-Carlton [and I'm guessing Marriott] card.
- [American Express] won’t look at whether you’ve had an SPG personal/business card.

So to @disneymagicgirl 's question, if you don't have any Marriott/Ritz-Carlton cards with Chase or received a bonus on a Marriott/Ritz-Carlton card in the past 24 months (and you've only had SPG cards with Amex), you should be able to sign up for the new Amex SPG Luxury when it comes out on 8/1/18.

I have the Marriott Biz, so I may be SOL for the SPG Luxury. But my wife doesn't have any Marriott/Ritz-Carlton cards with Chase (and has only had the SPG Biz), so it may not make sense for her to go for the Marriott cards before going for the SPG Luxury.

My concern is that Chase may implement a corollary rule that bars a signup bonus on its Marriott Premier Plus, Marriott Biz, and new Marriott Biz (rumored to release 8/26) if you have a Marriott/Ritz-Carlton/SPG card or received a bonus on these cards in the past 24 months come 8/1. There's no language like that right now, but we've seen that Chase can implement these "one card/bonus per family rules" into their terms very quickly (e.g., the Sapphires, SW consumer cards, and Marriott consumer cards).

So this is where it gets weird and I wonder if Biz and Personal may still separate. For Chase they kept the Biz and Personal lines separate, so why would AmEx exclude someone who got a Marriott Biz bonus from a Personal SPG bonus... Chase doesn't even do that (at least not yet). I'm not real interested in the SPG Luxury but I've got my eye on the Marriott Premier Plus, so if Chase does a similar rule I'm also SOL having just got the SPG Biz a few months ago. I never had any Marriott cards before (that's all hubby) so I thought this was a good way to go, SPG Biz and Marriott personal. It may be soon nothing is "safe" based on this rumor. Definitely keeping an eye on developments, starting to get crazy.

If those AUs put DH at or over 5/24, then he should wait until you can confirm those AUs are removed from his credit reports. If he's under 5/24 even with the AUs, they don't matter in the short term and you don't need to wait, but you'll want to take care of them so he has room for more cards.

And as of now, I will still be able to transfer points we earn on his new cards to my CSP (as long as the rumors are just rumors) - right?

Combining UR points across one's own cards and transferring within the household still works. Some of us are hopeful that Chase reducing other card benefits (price and purchase protection, limiting PP lounge access) recently is a cost cutting measure that'll save card and household points pooling. You're aware of the rumors, so it's best practice to calendar in when each of your UR cards statements close and points become available every month, so you can log in and transfer the points to your household's highest redemption card ASAP.

When I’ve booked with Alamo logged into my insider account I’ve always gotten a second driver free...just checked the reservation I made for September last month and it’s there..hopefully they didn’t take this away
Are you renting in CA? Alamo just told me they charge for a 2nd driver unless you are renting in CA. ...I miss National, I saved a ton of money going with Alamo this time but gosh I miss National!
ETA: Alamo just said it’s $15/day/driver when renting from MCO.

I always book trip insurance on cruises. I go through insure my trip dot com. There you can put in all what you need and give you different options. I have had to file claims twice now.

First time was about 5 years ago. DS was dinging around on the basketball court and broke his wrist in 2 places. We went to the ships Dr where they did xrays and confirmed the breaks. They then set up and appointment in Cozumel with a specialist. They arranged transportation and everything. At the hospital they did xrays again and then the Dr had to re break the bones to set them right and then put him in a cast. Because we were out of the country we had to pay for everything then. The bill came and it was 20,000 -we about fainted but realized it was pesos and the bill was about $2,000. So we paid by CC and then submitted on the trip insurance once back home.

Second time was just this past year. I did not feel well and after sleeping all day on the cruise went to the Dr and had a sinus infection. She gave me about 3 different prescriptions and was feeling much better shortly. I also submitted those bills when I got back.

I will always get trip insurance on cruises (or anything out of the country) as you never know what can happen. It is for much more than trip delays or lost luggage.

Thanks. He is at 2/24 with the AUs so he will be 0/24 when they are removed. CSP is already removed from Chase as of today. I requested removal CF just now. I will continue to check his credit report to see when they drop from there. We move very slowly in this game so he will be back at 2/24 when he gets his own CSP and CF. After that we won't make any moves for a while. I plan to cancel the CSP in a year before the AF hits. May cancel the CF after a year too, even though there is no AF - depends on if family pooling is still around.

Yes, once he earns the UR points I will transfer immediately to my account each month.

Thanks again for your help.

@Lain I know I don't have to wait unitl the AUs drop from his credit report to have him apply (CSP first then CF in a few months). But I think I will as I have rather high limits on those cards where he is AU. I don't want to chance not getting instant approval. Unfortunately (maybe fortunately) we have some big bills to pay and can easily meet the minimum spend quickly.

Ok so I called the cruise and tours department and got someone for my NCL cruise transfer. I tried Melissa again and got her voicemail, so that's an improvement :) But I called back to try Leon's extension, who also wasn't available but I got dropped into another queue this time. (I don't know why Melissa was special and I got an option for her voicemail, but I guess maybe they just know Melissa is special :) I've been in Leon's vm before but he didn't call back so I'm not so loyal to him anymore :p) I spoke with Terrance (x1118118) and he told me the same as Leon, the first time you need to make payment is when you need to use your UR. Since I made a deposit already, I could use my UR when it gets transferred but I don't need to until a payment is due. If I had the cruise on a hold or something and needed to make payment when it was transferred then, yes, if I wanted to use UR I'd have to use them then for that payment. He asked when my final payment was and when I told him it was a late 2019 cruise so it wasn't due until next year he said I had plenty of time to use my UR then.

The only thing a little off was he said I had 60 days to transfer it but the NCL site says 30 days. So he could have misspoke, the NCL site is outdated (which is not totally uncommon), or he had outdated info. I'm going to go with "the answer I want to hear" and transfer the cruise to him. My worst case scenario is I pay with UR at transfer and then the balance next year, which I am prepared for.

Tagging @bernina and @Natgridenergy as I think we are all looking at NCL transfers right now.

No Florida on September...we are renting in CA now but with Avis....
Agree we always rented with National until their rates skyrocketed....then moved to Alamo....
Using Avis this trip because the friends we are traveling with prefer them

Need help picking a hotel in Nashville. They finally listed the hotels with discounts for the one annual work conference I attend. Choice between Westin Nashville (1 block from conv center); JW Marriott Nashville (4 blocks) or Hilton Nashville Downtown (2 blocks). I have the SPG Biz and the Hilton Biz BUT I have to use work CC so not sure how much that matters. I am leaning toward Westin as I normally am very happy with Westins; it is the closest (laziness on my part). Any reviews from my credit card friends to help me out?

Terrance it is! Great news and thanks for letting me know.

My travel agent is telling me that I have 60 days from booking to transfer to them. Your website says 30 days. Can you please confirm what it is.

Thanks

Another SM will be fine. I SM a lot and get a different CSR each time :)
